Cash, groceries for only 100 people per day in each PDS from April 2

Madurai: The Rs 1,000 announced for ration card holders in Madurai district from April 2, will be distributed through the public distribution shops (PDS) at the rate of 50 in the morning and 50 in the evening in each shop, minister for cooperatives Sellur K Raju has said. The minister said that there are 2.40 crore ration cards in the state of which 1.86 crores are white rice cards. As a relief measure for the lockdown period, the TN government has announced Rs 1,000 cash and groceries for the cardholders.

He said the district administration and police are taking steps to ensure organised supply of the money and goods to the people. It had been planned to distribute the groceries and money to 50 cards in the morning and 50 more in each shop from April 2. The sales personnel in the shops will get 50 paise incentive for each product in this process.

As many as 2,590 guest workers in Madurai district are now in the care of their employers. Food was being distributed to the homeless people in the district through NGOs. People should extend their full co-operation to the district administration, Raju said.
