Covid-19: Tamil Nadu governor donates Rs 1 crore each to PM, CM relief funds

CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu governor Banwarilal Purohit has donated Rs 1 crore each to Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES) and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund.

A Raj Bhavan statement said the governor has released money from his discretionary grants. “The Government of India and the Tamil Nadu government have taken a lot of preventive and control measures against the Covid-19 pandemic. As part of shouldering the responsibility along with the Government of India and the Tamil Nadu government at this critical situation, the governor has donated Rs 1 crore each to the PM-CARES and Chief Minister’s Fund for control measures of COVID’19 and to provide relief to the affected people of our country”.

In addition to this, the governor has donated one month’s salary to the PM-CARES Fund. It may be noted that Purohit had earlier donated his one month’s salary to Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund. The governor has also appealed to the people of Tamil Nadu to contribute generously to both the funds.
