Fake docs: Med council faces dissolution demand
Kolkata: A renewed demand for dissolving West Bengal Medical Council (WBMC) has surfaced after Association of Private Hospital and Nursing Home (APHNH) accused it of providing licences to doctors with fake degrees. One of them is allegedly working as a gynaecologist in Burdwan and the other as a general surgeon in North 24 Parganas. Doctors’ bodies have also demanded a thorough probe into the issue.
“We have lodged a complaint with the health minister about these two persons. We feel there is a bigger scam operating where WBMC has given registration without proper verification,” said Rajiv Pandey, secretary, APHNH.
“We demand a judicial inquiry into this allegation,” said Sajal Biswas, general secretary, Service Doctors Forum.
On Thursday, doctors from APHNH protested in front of WBMC’s office in Salt Lake. tnn
