NEET-SS cut-off down; 40 seats returned to TN
19.09.2026
Chennai: A day after the Centre told the Supreme Court it had reduced the qualifying percentile for NEET-SS from 50 to 30, the TN Medical Officers’Association (TNMOA) said its sustained legal battle helped secure the return of 40 vacant super-speciality seats to the state for govt doctors.
The Centre told the court that 1,857 super-speciality seats remained vacant across the country after the second round of counselling. This included 40 seats in TN. Candidates who become eligible after the percentile reduction will be allowed to participate in the special stray vacancy round.
Earlier, TN had surrendered 152 vacant in-service super-speciality seats to the all-India pool following a Supreme Court order. “TNMOA filed a writ petition seeking protection of the interests of in-service doctors,” said general secretary Dr M Akilan. The association said the govt must create posts and offer incentives for super-speciality courses that do not attract enough candidates. TNN
