சென்னை: சென்னையில் விடிய விடிய கனமழை கொட்டியது. பல பகுதிகளையும் வெள்ள நீர் சூழ்ந்ததால் போக்குவரத்து ஸ்தம்பித்தது.

தொடர்மழை:

வங்க கடலின் மத்திய மேற்கு பகுதியில் வளிமண்டல மேலடுக்கு சுழற்சி ஏற்பட்டது காரணமாக கடந்த 29ம் தேதி முதல் தமிழக கடலோர மாவட்டங்களில் தொடர்மழை பெய்து வருகிறது. சென்னையில் நேற்று மாலை துவங்கிய மழை விடாமல் நள்ளிரவு தாண்டியும் தொடர்ந்து பெய்தது. விடிய விடிய கனமழை பெய்தததால் சென்னை முழுவதும் போக்குவரத்து அடியோடு முடங்கியது. வாகனங்கள் செல்ல முடியாதபடி பல பகுதிகளிலும் வெள்ளம் சூழ்ந்தது. பல பகுதிகளிலும் வீட்டினுள் வெள்ள நீர் புகுந்தது.

அறிவுறுத்தல்:

தாழ்வான பகுதிகளில் வசித்து வரும் மக்கள் அப்பகுதியை விட்டு வெளியேறும்படி தேசிய பேரிடர் மேலாண்மை வாரியம் அறிவுறுத்தியது. பாதிப்புக்குள்ளாகும் பகுதிகள் குறித்து புகார் தெரிவிக்க உதவி எண்களும் அறிவிக்கப்பட்டன.

விடுமுறை:

தொடர் மழை காரணமாக சென்னை, காஞ்சிபுரம், புதுக்கோட்டை மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள பள்ளி, கல்லூரிகளுக்கு இன்று விடுமுறை அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. மேலும் திருவள்ளூர், நாகை, திருவாரூர், காரைக்கால் மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள பள்ளிகளுக்கு மட்டும் இன்று விடுமுறை அறிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

தனியார் நிறுவனங்களுக்கு விடுமுறை:

கனமழை காரணமாக சென்னை, காஞ்சிபுரம் மாவட்டத்திலுள்ள அனைத்து தனியார் நிறுவன ஊழியர்களுக்கும் இன்று(நவ.,3) விடுமுறை அளிக்க வேண்டும் எனவும், விடுமுறை அளிக்காவிட்டால் வீட்டிலிருந்தபடி வேலை செய்ய அனுமதிக்க வேண்டும் எனவும் வருவாய் துறை உத்தரவிடப்பட்டுள்ளது.

தேர்வு ஒத்திவைப்பு:

இன்று நடைபெறவிருந்த தேர்வுகளை அண்ணா பல்கலை., ஒத்திவைத்துள்ளது. மாற்று தேதி பின்னர் அறிவிக்கப்படும் என பல்கலை., நிர்வாகம் அறிவித்துள்ளது.

சென்னை,

தென்மேற்கு வங்க கடலில் இலங்கை அருகே நிலை கொண்டிருந்த வளிமண்டல மேலடுக்கு சுழற்சி காரணமாக சென்னை உள்பட தமிழகத்தின் வட கடலோட மாவட்டங்களில் நேற்று கனமழை பெய்தது. தென் மாவட்டங்களிலும் சில இடங்களில் மழை பெய்தது.

சென்னை நகரில் காலை வானம் மேகமூட்டத்துடன் காணப்பட்டது. அவ்வப்போது சிறிது நேரம் வெயிலும் அடித்தது. இதனால் தாழ்வான இடங்களில் தேங்கி இருந்த தண்ணீர் வடிய தொடங்கியது. மதியத்திற்கு பிறகு வானிலை அப்படியே மாறியது சென்னை மற்றும் புறநகர் பகுதியில் கனமழை பெய்ய தொடங்கியது. மாலையில் மழை தீவிரம் காட்ட தொடங்கியது. மழை காரணமாக பல்வேறு சாலைகள் வெள்ளக்காடாக காட்சியளிக்கிறது. சாலைகளில் மழைநீர் பெருக்கெடுத்து ஓடுகிறது. இதனால் வாகன ஓட்டிகள் பெரிதும் சிரமத்திற்கு உள்ளாகி உள்ளனர். தாழ்வான பகுதிகளில் தண்ணீர் ஆழமாக செல்கிறது. மழை தொடர்ந்து பெய்து வருகிறது.

இந்நிலையில் வியாழன் இரவு (இன்று) முழுவதும் மழை நின்று பெய்யும் என தமிழ்நாடு வெதர்மேன் தெரிவித்து உள்ளார்.

தமிழ்நாடு வெதர்மேன் அவருடைய பேஸ்புக்கில் வெளியிட்டு உள்ள செய்தியில் வடசென்னை, மத்திய சென்னை, தென் சென்னை, ஓ.எம்.ஆர். மற்றும் கிழக்கு கடற்கரை சாலை ஆகிய பகுதிகளில் நல்ல மழை தொடங்கிவிட்டது. சென்னையின் புறநகர் பகுதிகளிலும் மழை பெய்கிறது. ஒருபுறம் வட சென்னையில் இருந்து நகரும் மேகங்கள், மற்றொருபுறம் மேற்குகில் இருந்து நகரும் மேகம் காரணமாக நேற்று இரவுபோல் லேசான மழையாக இல்லாமல், இரவு முழுவதும் மழை நின்று பெய்யும் என கூறிஉள்ளார்.

2015 டிசம்பருக்கு பின்னர் அதிகமான மழை பெய்கிறது, கடந்த 2 மணி நேரங்களில் அதிகமான இடங்கள் 100 மில்லி மீட்டர் மழையை பெற்று உள்ளது. கனமழை அடுத்த ஒரு மணி நேரங்களுக்கு தொடர்ந்து பெய்யும். சென்னையில் அடுத்த ஒரு மணி நேரம் அல்லது அதற்கு மேலும் மழை பெய்வது நிற்காது, மேகங்கள் கவர்ந்து இருப்பதை பார்க்க முடிகிறது, மழை தொடர்ந்து பெய்யும். தேவையின்றி வீட்டை விட்டு வெளியேற வேண்டாம் என தமிழ்நாடு வெதர்மேன் பேஸ்புக்கில் தெரிவித்து உள்ளார்.

சென்னை மற்றும் புறநகர் பகுதிகளான கிண்டி, ஆலந்தூர், ஆதம்பாக்கம், பரங்கிமலை, பழவந்தாங்கல், மடிப்பாக்கம், நங்கநல்லூர், பள்ளிக்கரணை, நீலாங்கரை, துரைப்பாக்கம், பெரும்பாக்கம், மேடவாக்கம், புழுதிவாக்கம், உள்ளகரம், வேளச்சேரி, கொட்டிவாக்கம், ஈஞ்சம்பாக்கம், கீழ்கட்டளை போன்ற பகுதிகளில் நேற்று முன்தினம் நள்ளிரவில் இருந்து பலத்த மழைபெய்தது.

மடிப்பாக்கம்–புழுதிவாக்கம் ராம்நகர் வடக்கு பகுதியில் உள்ள 10–க்கும் மேற்பட்ட தெருக்களில் மழைநீர் தேங்கி நிற்கிறது. இந்த பகுதிகளில் மழைநீர் கால்வாய்கள் சரியாக தூர்வாரப்படாததால் கால்வாய்களில் தண்ணீர் செல்லாமல் தேங்கி இருந்தன.

மாநகராட்சி அதிகாரிகள், பொக்லைன் எந்திரங்களை கொண்டு தற்காலிகமாக கால்வாய்களை ஏற்படுத்தி தண்ணீரை அகற்றும் பணியில் ஈடுபட்டு உள்ளனர்.

புழுதிவாக்கம் ராம்நகரில் உள்ள ஒப்பிலியப்பன் பட்டாபிஷேக ராமர் கோவிலில் முழங்கால் அளவுக்கு தண்ணீர் தேங்கி இருந்தது. இதனால் பக்தர்கள் கோவிலுக்குள் செல்ல முடியாமல் அவதிக்கு உள்ளானார்கள்.

தெருக்களில் உள்ள மழைநீர் கால்வாய்களில் அடைப்புகள் எடுக்கப்படாததால் கோவிலுக்குள் மழைநீர் புகுந்துவிட்டதாகவும் அப்பகுதி மக்கள் புகார் தெரிவித்தனர்.

பள்ளிக்கரணை நாராயணபுரம் ஏரி நிரம்பியதால் அங்கிருந்து உபரி நீரை, மதகுகள் வழியாக மாநகராட்சி அதிகாரிகள் வெளியேற்றினார்கள். ஆனால் கால்வாய்கள் சரியாக தூர்வாரப்படாததால் தண்ணீர் செல்ல வழிஇன்றி நாராயணபுரம் ஏரி அருகே உள்ள பள்ளிக்கரணை ஸ்ரீநகர், மகாத்மா காந்தி நகர், லட்சுமி நகர், எல்.ஐ.சி. நகர், ராஜேஷ் நகர் போன்ற பகுதிகளில் உள்ள ஆயிரத்துக்கும் அதிகமான வீடுகளை தண்ணீர் சூழ்ந்தது. சில வீடுகளுக்குள்ளும் தண்ணீர் புகுந்தது.

இதனால் பொதுமக்கள் அத்தியாவசிய பொருட்கள் வாங்கக்கூட வெளியே வரமுடியாத வகையில் இடுப்பு வரை தண்ணீர் தேங்கியது. இதனால் பொதுமக்கள் அவதி அடைந்தனர். இதையடுத்து கைவேலிக்கு தண்ணீரை அனுப்ப கல்வெட்டுகளில் இருந்த அடைப்புகளை பொக்லைன் எந்திரம் மூலம் அகற்றும் பணியில் மாநகராட்சி ஊழியர்கள் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

பெருங்குடி மண்டல அதிகாரிகள், மழை வருவதற்கு முன்பே கால்வாய்களை தூர்வாரும் பணிகளில் ஈடுபட்டு இருந்தால் ஓரளவு தண்ணீர் தேங்காமல் பாதுகாத்து இருக்கலாம். ஆனால் அதிகாரிகள் மழைக்கு முன்னர் வரவில்லை என்று பொதுமக்கள் குற்றம்சாட்டினார்கள்.

மேலும் வேளச்சேரி பேபி நகர், உதயம் நகர், பெருங்குடி கல்லுக்குட்டை போன்ற பகுதிகளில் வீடுகளை சுற்றி இடுப்பு அளவு தண்ணீர் தேங்கி இருந்தது. தண்ணீரை வெளியேற்ற உரிய நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் என்று அப்பகுதி மக்கள் கோரிக்கை விடுத்து உள்ளனர்.

உத்தரப் பிரதேச என்.டி.பி.சி-யில் பாய்லர் வெடித்து விபத்து... 20 பேர் பலி!

உத்தரப் பிரதேச மாநிலம், ரேபரேலியில் இருக்கும் என்.டி.பி.சி அனல் மின் நிலையத்தில், பாய்லர் வெடித்ததன் காரணமாக 20 பேர் உயிரிழந்துள்ளனர். இந்த விபத்தில் பலி எண்ணிக்கை இன்னும் அதிகரிக்கலாம் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது. பாய்லர் வெடித்ததை அடுத்து, பலர் மின் நிலையத்தில் உள்ளே சிக்கியிருக்கலாம் என்று யூகிக்கப்படுவதால் பலி எண்ணிக்கை உயரம் என்று தெரிவிக்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த விபத்தால் பலருக்கு தீக்காயங்கள் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளது.




இது குறித்து பிரதமர் நரேந்திர மோடி, `ரேபரேலி என்.டி.பி.சி-யில் ஏற்பட்டிருக்கும் விபத்து மிகவும் கஷ்டத்தைக் கொடுக்கின்றது. இறந்தவர்களின் குடும்பத்தினருடன் என் எண்ணங்கள் இருக்கின்றன. காயமடைந்தவர்கள் சீக்கிரமே குணமாகட்டும். இந்த சம்பவம் உன்னிப்பாக கவனிக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. சீக்கிரமே இயல்பு நிலை திரும்பிட அதிகாரிகள் வேலை செய்து வருகின்றனர்' என்று தனது அதிகாரபூர்வ ட்விட்டர் பக்கத்தில் இருந்து ட்வீட் செய்துள்ளார்.

கடலூர் வெள்ள தடுப்புப் பணியில் ஊழல்: நீதிமன்றமே முன்வந்து வழக்குப் பதிவு செய்ய கோரிக்கை!

கடலூர் மாவட்டத்தில் மழை வெள்ள காலங்களில் நிவாரணப் பணி என்று கோடி கணக்கில் கொளையடிக்கப்படுகின்றன. இதை நீதிமன்றம் தாமாகவே முன்வந்து வழக்குப் பதிவு செய்து விசாரணை செய்யவேண்டும் என்று சமூக ஆர்வலர்கள் கோரிக்கை வைத்துள்ளனர்.




இதுகுறித்து, "ஒவ்வொரு ஆண்டும் வடகிழக்குப் பருவமழை என்றாலே அதிகம் பாதிக்கப்படுவது கடலூர் மாவட்டம்தான். இதிலிருந்து நிரந்தர தீர்வு காணவேண்டும் என்று முன்னால் முதல்வர் ஜெயலலிதா கடந்த 2015-ம் ஆண்டு, "நிரந்தர வெள்ள தடுப்புப் பணி"க்காக ரூபாய் 140 கோடி நிதி ஒதுக்கினார். அத்தோடு, சிறப்பு நிதியாகவும் பல கோடி ரூபாய் ஒதுக்கப்பட்டது. இதன் மூலம் எந்த ஒரு பணியும் முழுமையாக முடிக்கப்படவில்லை. முன்னெச்சரிக்கை நடவடிக்கை என்ற பெயரில் இப்போதுதான் கடலூர் நகரத்தை சிதைத்து சின்னாபின்னமாக்கிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள். கடந்த மழைக்கு வெட்டிய வாய்க்கால்களை மழை முடிந்ததும் மூடிவிட்டு, மறுபடியும் அதே இடத்தில் இப்போது தோண்டுகிறார்கள். மழை வந்தால் தோண்டுவதும், முடிந்தால் மூடுவதுமாக இருக்கிறார்கள். இதன்மூலம் கோடிக்கணக்கான ரூபாய் கொள்ளையடிக்கப்படுகிறது. இதற்கு நிரந்தர தீர்வே இல்லை. இரண்டு நாள் மழைக்கே கடலூர் நகரம் தாக்குபிடிக்காமல் ஆங்காங்கே தண்ணீர் தேங்கி கிடக்கிறது. இந்நிலையில், "வடகிழக்குப் பருவமழையை எதிர்கொள்ள மாவட்ட நிர்வாகம் தயார் நிலையில் உள்ளது. கடுமையான மழை வந்தாலும் மக்களுக்கு பாதிப்பு ஏற்ப்படாதவாறு அனைத்து முன்னெச்சரிக்கை நடவடிக்கைகள் எடுக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது" என்று தொழில்துறை அமைச்சர் எம்.சி.சம்பத் கூறியிருப்பது வேடிக்கையாக உள்ளது.




மழை வெள்ள நிவாரணப் பணிகள், நிரந்தர தடுப்புப் பணிகள், தூர்வாருதல் என இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளில் கடலூர் மாவட்டத்தில் பல கோடி ரூபாய் செலவிடப்பட்டதாக ஆட்சியாளர்கள் கூறுகிறார்கள். இதில் பெரிய அளவில் ஊழல் நடந்துள்ளதாக தெரிகிறது. கடந்த 2015-ல் அடித்த மழை வெள்ளத்தில் பொதுமக்களுக்கு உணவு வழங்கியதாக 100 கோடி ரூபாய் கணக்கு காட்டினார் அமைச்சர் எம்.சி.சம்பத். இதற்கு பொதுமக்கள் மத்தியில் கடுமையான எதிற்ப்பு கிளம்பியது. அதன்பிறகு அது ரூபாய் 40 கோடியாக குறைந்தது. இது ஒன்றுதான் வெளியில் தெரிந்தது. வெளியில் தெரியாமல் அதிகாரிகளும், அரசியல்வாதிகளும் எவ்வளவு அடித்திருக்கிறார்களோ, அல்லது அடிக்கப்போகிறார்களோ என்று தெரியவில்லை. இதுகுறித்து அமைச்சரும், மாவட்ட ஆட்சியரும் வெள்ளை அறிக்கை கொடுக்கவேண்டும். மழை வெள்ளம் என்றாலே பொதுமக்களுக்குத்தான் பயம். ஆனால், அதிகாரிகளுக்கும், அரசியல்வாதிகளுக்கும் அல்ல. அவர்களுக்கு கொண்டாட்டம்தான். இதுகுறித்து நீதிமன்றம் தாமாகவே முன்வந்து வழக்குப் பதிவு செய்து எவ்வளவு கொள்ளையடிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது என்று விசாரணை செய்யவேண்டும்" என்று சமூக ஆர்வலர்கள் கோரிக்கை வைத்துள்ளனர்.

ஹைடெக்காக காப்பியடித்து மாட்டிக் கொண்ட நெல்லை ஐ.பி.எஸ் அதிகாரி, சபீர் கரீமுக்கு சொந்த ஊர் கொச்சி அருகேயுள்ள வயல்கரா என்கிற கிராமம். இந்த சிறிய கிராமத்தில் இருந்து ஐ.பி.எஸ் அதிகாரி ஆனவர் என்ற வகையில் சபீர் கரீமைப் பார்த்து கிராமமே பெருமைப்பட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தது. ஹீரோவாக வலம் வந்த அவர், சொந்த கிராம மக்கள் வைத்திருந்த நம்பிக்கையே சிதைத்துள்ளார்.

சிறு வயதில் இருந்தே சபீர் கஷ்டப்பட்டு படித்துள்ளார். வயல்கரை கிரமத்தில்தான் பள்ளி படிப்பை படித்திருக்கிறார். ஐ.பி.எஸ் ஆபிசர் ஆவதற்கு முன்னர், சிவில் சர்வீஸ் பயிற்சி மையங்களில் பணி புரிந்திருக்கிறார். பயிற்சிக்கு வந்த ஜாய்சியை காதலித்து திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டார். ஐ.பி.எஸ் ஆன பின்னரும் சொந்த ஊருக்கு வந்து மாணவ- மாணவிகளுக்கு சிவில் சர்வீஸ் தேர்வில் பங்கேற்பது எப்படி...? என தயாராவது குறித்து வகுப்பு எடுப்பதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டிருந்தார்.

வயல்கரை கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மாணவ- மாணவிகளுக்கு சபீர்தான் ரோல் மாடல். சொந்த கிராமத்தில் ஐ.ஏ.எஸ். பயிற்சி மையம் ஆரம்பிப்பது சபீரின் இன்னொரு லட்சியம். கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மாணவர்கள் 'நானும் சபீர் போல ஐ.பி.எஸ். ஆவேன்' என்று சொல்வார்கள். அந்தளவுக்கு கிராமத்து மக்களின் இளைஞர்களின் நம்பிக்கையையும் நன் மதிப்பையும் பெற்றிருந்தார் அவர்.

சொந்த கிராமத்தின் மீது பற்றும் மாணவர்களின் வளர்ச்சியில் அக்கறையும் கொண்டிருந்தவரா இப்படி காப்பியடித்து மாட்டிக் கொண்டார் என்பதை வயல்கரை கிராமத்து மக்களால் ஜீரணிக்க முடியவில்லை. வயல்கரை கிராமத்தைச் சேர்ந்த மாணவ- மாணவிகளின் முகத்தில் ஒருவித சோகம் அப்பியிருக்கிறது.

சபீர் அவரின் மனைவி ஜாய்சியும் சிறைக்குச் செல்ல நேரிட்டுள்ளது. போலீஸ் விசாரணையில் முன்னாபாய் எம்.பி.பி.எஸ். படத்தைப் பார்த்துவிட்டு, அதேபோல் காப்பயடிக்க முடிவு செய்ததாக சபீர் தெரிவித்துள்ளார். சபீர், ஐ.பி.எஸ். அதிகாரியாகவும் ஒரு சினிமாதான் காரணமாக இருந்திருக்கிறது. அந்த மலையாளப் படத்தின் பெயர் 'கமிஷனர்'!

சென்னை : சென்னையின் ட்ராபிக் நிலவரத்தை சென்னை மாநகரப் போக்குவரத்துக் காவல்துறையின் பிரத்யேக ட்விட்டர் பக்கத்தில் தெரிந்துகொள்ளலாம். இது தங்களின் நேரத்தை மிச்சப்படுத்துவதாக பயனாளர்கள் தெரிவித்து இருக்கிறார்கள்.

சென்னை மாநகரத்தின் ட்ராபிக் நிலவரம் பற்றி சொல்லவே வேண்டாம். காலை, மாலை என்று வகை தொகை இல்லாமல் போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் ஏற்படும். சாதரண காலங்களிலேயே அப்படி என்றால் மழைக்காலங்களில் அவ்வுளவு தான். வாகன ஓட்டிகளின் சிரமத்தை சொல்லவே முடியாது.




தற்போது இந்த பிரச்னைக்கு தீர்க்கும் நோக்கில் சென்னை மாநகரப் போக்குவரத்துக் காவல்துறை களமிறங்கி உள்ளது. சென்னையின் முக்கிய பகுதிகளில் ட்ராபிக் எப்படி இருக்கிறது, மழையால் போக்குவரத்தில் மாற்றம் எதாவது இருக்கிறதா என்பதைத் தெரிவிப்பதற்காக சென்னை போக்குவரத்துக்காவல்துறை புதிய ட்விட்டர் பக்கத்தை துவங்கி உள்ளது.

@CCTraffic_Alert என்கிற அந்தப் பக்கத்தை மக்கள் பின் தொடர்ந்து, சென்னையின் ட்ராபிக் குறித்த அப்டேட்டுகளை உடனுக்குடன் அறிந்து கொள்ள முடியும். இதன் மூலம் தங்கள் நேரம் சேமிக்கப்படுவதாகவும், பயணத்திற்கு திட்டமிட்டுக் கொள்ளவும் முடிகிறது என்று மக்கள் தெரிவிக்கிறார்கள்.

திருமண வரவேற்பு நிகழ்ச்சியில் மணமக்களுக்கு பரிசளித்து வாழ்த்திய காதலன் நள்ளிரவில் மணப்பெண்ணுடன் ஓட்டம்

வேலூர்: காட்பாடி அருகே நடந்த திருமண வரவேற்பு நிகழ்ச்சியில் கலந்துகொண்ட வாலிபர், மணமக்களுக்கு பரிசு கொடுத்து வாழ்த்து தெரிவித்துவிட்டு, இரவோடு இரவாக மணப்பெண்ணை அழைத்து சென்று கோயிலில் தாலி கட்டிய சம்பவம் பரபரப்பை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. வேலூர் மாவட்டம் திருவலம் பொன்னை கூட் ரோடை சேர்ந்தவர் சுகுமார். இவர் இறந்து விட்டார். இவரது மகள் நிரோஷினி(24) தனியார் நிறுவனத்தில் மார்க்கெட்டிங் பிரிவில் பணிபுரிந்து வருகிறார். இவரும் ராணிப்பேட்டை பெல் நிறுவனத்தில் அப்ரன்டீஸாக உள்ள குடியாத்தம் காமாட்சியம்மன்பேட்டையை சேர்ந்த விக்னேஷ்(25) என்பவரும் கடந்த 6 மாதங்களாக காதலித்து வந்துள்ளனர். இந்நிலையில், நிரோஷினிக்கு அவரது குடும்பத்தினர் உறவிலேயே மாப்பிள்ளை பார்த்து நவம்பர் 1ம் தேதி திருமணம் நிச்சயம் செய்தனர்.

திருமணம் ராணிப்பேட்டை பெல் திருமண மண்டபத்தில் நேற்று காலை நடப்பதாக இருந்தது. இதற்கான வரவேற்பு நிகழ்ச்சி நேற்று முன்தினம் இரவு நடந்தது. அப்போது திடீரென இரண்டு பரிசு பொருட்களுடன் மண்டபத்துக்கு வந்த நிரோஷினியின் காதலன் விக்னேஷ் ஆளுக்கொரு பரிசு பொருளை கொடுத்து கைகுலுக்கி வாழ்த்து தெரிவித்தார். அப்போது எந்த சலனத்தையும் நிரோஷினி காட்டிக் கொள்ளவில்லை. ஆனால், மணமகனோ பரிசு கொடுத்தவர் மணமகளின் தூரத்து உறவுக்காரராக இருக்கும் என்று நினைத்து ஜாலியாக பேசி, சாப்பிட்டு விட்டு போகும்படி கேட்டுக் கொண்டார். அங்கிருந்த செல்லும்போது நிரோஷினிக்கு புரியும்படி, பரிசு பார்சலை பிரித்து பார்க்கும்படி சைகை காட்டிவிட்டு சென்றுள்ளார். அதிகாலை 3 மணியளவில் மணமக்களுக்கு நலுங்கு வைக்கும் சடங்குகள் தொடங்கின. முதலில் மணமகனுக்கு சடங்குகள் நடந்தன.

பின்னர் மணமகள் அறையில் சென்று பார்த்த உறவினர்கள், நிரோஷினி இல்லாததை கண்டு அதிர்ந்தனர். ஆனாலும் வெளிக்காட்டிக் கொள்ளாமல் மண்டபம் முழுவதும் தேடினர். நலுங்கு முடிந்து திருமணத்துக்கு தயாரான மணமகனுக்கு இந்த தகவல் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது. அவர் அதிர்ச்சியில் உறைந்தார். எங்குதேடியும் நிரோஷினி கிடைக்காததால் அவருக்கு திடீரென உறைத்தது. இரவு தன்னிடமும், நிரோஷினியிடமும் பேசிய நபர் குறித்து விசாரித்தார். நள்ளிரவு வரை அவர் மண்டபத்துக்குள் அங்குமிங்கும் பரபரப்பாக திரிந்ததாக பலரும் கூறினர். இதையடுத்தே மணமகள் காதலனுடன் ஓடியது தெரியவந்தது. இதனால் களை கட்டிய திருமண மண்டபம் சோகத்தில் மூழ்கியது. இருதரப்பு உறவினர்களும் மண்டபத்தில் இருந்து புறப்பட்டனர்.

மணமகனும் விரக்தியில் தனது உறவினர்களுடன் சோகமாக திரும்பி சென்றார். மணமகளின் உறவினர்களோ மதியம் 12 மணி வரை தேடும் முயற்சியை தொடர்ந்தனர். அப்போதுதான் அவர்களுக்கு லத்தேரி காவல்நிலையத்தில் விக்னேஷ் என்ற வாலிபருடன் நிரோஷினி மணமக்களாக மாறி தஞ்சமடைந்திருப்பதும், அவர் அந்த வாலிபரை லத்தேரி பெருமாள் கோயிலில் திருமணம் செய்து கொண்டதும் தெரிய வந்தது. மேலும் லத்தேரி போலீசார் மணமகள் தரப்பினரை காவல் நிலையத்துக்கு வரவழைத்தனர். அங்கு பேச்சுவார்த்தை நடத்தி காதல்ஜோடி மேஜர் என்பதால், அவர்களது திருமணத்தை தடுக்க வழியில்லை என்று கூறினர். அப்போது காதலனுடன் தான் செல்வேன் என்று நிரோஷினி கூறியதால் அவருடன் அனுப்பி வைத்தனர்.

வடகிழக்கு பருவமழையோ   அல்லது தென்மேற்கு பருவமழையோ எதுவாக இருந்தாலும் இந்திய வானிலை ஆய்வு மையம் அறிவித்த தேதியில் தொடங்குகிறது என்றால் அது மகிழ்ச்சிக்குரிய விஷயம். புகை கக்கும் தொழிற்சாலைகள், மண் வளம் தின்னும் பிளாஸ்டிக் கழிவுகள், வாகனப் புகை இன்னும் எத்தனையோ மாசுகளை மட்டுமே நாம் இயற்கைக்கு தந்தாலும் பேரன்போடு நமக்கு இன்னும் பருவம் தவறாமல் மழையைக் கொடுத்திருக்கிறது இயற்கை அன்னை.

அத்தகைய வரத்தை வணங்கி இன்புற வேண்டும். ஆனால் சென்னை மக்களோ மழை வந்தாலே பீதியில் ஆழ்ந்துவிடுகின்றனர். காரணம் 2015-ம் ஆண்டு சென்னையில் ஏற்பட்ட வெள்ளப்பெருக்கு. அந்த வெள்ளப்பெருக்குதான் தலைநகர் சென்னையில் வடிகால்கள் ஏதும் தூர்வாரப்படவில்லை, முகத்துவாரங்களை கழிவுகள் மூடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறது, ஏரிகளில் கட்டிடங்கள் ஆக்கிரமித்துக் கொண்டிருக்கின்றன என்ற உண்மையை உரக்க உணர்த்தியது. ஆனால், அரசு உணர்ந்ததா?

ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமையில் இருந்துதான் சென்னையில் பரவலாக மழை பெய்கிறது. ஆனால் இரண்டு மூன்று நாட்களிலேயே சென்னையின் பல்வேறு பகுதிகளும் மழைநீர் தேங்கி வெள்ளக்காடாக காட்சியளிக்கிறது.

இப்படி தண்ணீர் தேங்குவதற்கு என்னதான் காரணம்?

இதுகுறித்து சுற்றுச்சூழல் ஆர்வலர் நித்யானந்த் ஜெயராமனிடம் 'தி இந்து' தமிழ் இணையதளம் சார்பில் பேசியபோது, "இரண்டு நாள் மழைக்கே நகரில் பல இடங்களில் தேங்கியிருக்கிறதுதான். ஆனால், இதற்கு ஒட்டுமொத்தமாக அரசாங்கத்தை மட்டுமே கைகாட்டிவிடமுடியாது. 40 ஆண்டுகளாக ஆக்கிரமிப்பு தவற்றை செய்திருக்கிறோம். அதை ஓரிரு ஆண்டுகளில் சரிசெய்துவிட முடியாது. இப்போது அரசு ஆக்கிரமிப்புகளை அகற்றி, தூர்வாரும் பணிகளை சிறப்பாக செய்ய ஆரம்பித்தால் 3 அல்லது 4 வருடங்களில் வெற்றிகரமாக முடித்துவிடலாம்.

இப்படி சாதாரண மழைக்கே தண்ணீர் பெருக்கெடுப்பதைத் தவிர்க்க வேண்டும் என்றால் மழைநீர் கால்வாய்களை சீர் செய்தால் மட்டும் போதாது. மையக் கால்வாய்களான கூவம், அடையாறு, கொசஸ்தலை ஆற்றின் கொள்ளவு குறைந்திருக்கிறது. இதற்குப் பிரதான காரணம் ஆக்கிரமிப்புகள் மட்டுமே. 2105-ல் சென்னையில் ஏற்பட்ட பெருவெள்ளத்துக்குப் பிறகு தமிழக அரசு தெரிந்தே கொசஸ்தலை ஆற்றின் முகத்துவாரத்தில் சுமார் 480 ஏக்கரை காமராஜர் துறைமுகத்துக்காக ஆக்கிரமித்திருக்கிறது. இது பேராபத்தை விளைவிக்கக்கூடியது.

ஏனெனில் குடிசை ஆக்கிரமிப்புகளால் அதில் வசிக்கும் மக்களுக்கு மட்டுமே பாதிப்பு. ஆனால், வல்லூர் அனல்மின் நிலையம் போன்ற நிறுவனங்கள் ஆக்கிரமிப்பில் ஈடுபட்டால் அது ஒட்டுமொத்த ஊருக்கே பாதிப்பு.

இரண்டு விஷயங்களை இந்த அரசு செய்ய வேண்டியுள்ளது. முதலாவதாக, பணக்காரர்கள், குடிசைவாசிகள் என பேதம் இல்லாமல் ஆக்கிரமிப்புகளை அகற்ற வேண்டும்.

வல்லூர் அனல்மின் நிலையத்துக்காக அரசே முகத்துவாரத்தை ஆக்கிரமிக்கிறது என்றால் அது மக்கள் மத்தியில் தவறான முன்னுதாரணமாக இருக்கும். இதே குடிசைவாசிகளாக இருந்தால் போலீஸைக் கொண்டு கட்டாயமாக அப்புறப்படுத்தும் அரசு, ஆக்கிரமிப்புகளை அனுமதிக்காததில் நல்ல முன்மாதிரியாக இருக்க வேண்டாமா? இரட்டை நிலைப்பாட்டைத் தவிர்த்து அனைத்து ஆக்கிரமிப்புகளையும் அரசு அகற்ற வேண்டும்.

இரண்டாவதாக, மழைநீர் கால்வாய்களை தூர்வாருவது மட்டுமல்ல தற்போது நல்ல நிலையில் இருக்கும் நீர்நிலைகளை சீரமைத்து பாதுகாக்கும் பணியிலும் ஈடுபட வேண்டும். இவையே தண்ணீர் பற்றாக்குறையைத் தீர்க்கவும் சாதாரண மழைக்கு சாலையில் வெள்ளம் தேங்குவதைத் தடுக்கவும் தீர்வு"

இவ்வாறு அவர் கூறினார்.

எண்ணூரில் இருந்து முட்டுக்காடு வரையில், ஏறக்குறைய 49 கிலோமீட்டர் உள்ள கால்வாயை தூர்வாரி இருந்தால், சென்னை மாநகரில் எந்தவொரு இடத்திலும் தண்ணீர் தேங்க முடியாத நிலை ஏற்பட்டிருக்கும் என திமுக செயல் தலைவர் மு.க.ஸ்டாலின் தெரிவித்திருக்கும் நிலையில், மழை முன்னெச்சரிக்கை நடவடிக்கைகள் குறித்து சென்னை மாநகராட்சி ஆணையர் கார்த்திகேயனைத் தொடர்பு கொள்ள முயற்சித்தோம்.

ஆனால், அவர் பிரதமர் வருகைக்கான ஆயத்தப் பணிகளை மேற்கொள்ளும் ஆலோசனைக் கூட்டத்தில் இருப்பதால் கேள்விகளை வாட்ஸ் அப்பில் அனுப்புமாறு மாநகராட்சியின் மக்கள் தொடர்பு அதிகாரி தெரிவித்தார். இதனையடுத்து வாட்ஸ் அப் மூலம் கேள்விகள் அனுப்பியுள்ளோம். பதிலுக்காக காத்திருக்கிறோம்.

வாட்ஸ் அப்பில் ஒருவருக்கு அனுப்பிய தகவலை அழிக்கும் வசதியை வாட்ஸ் அப் அறிமுகப்படுத்தி உள்ளது. ஆனால், அனுப்பிய தகவலை 7 நிமிடங்களுக்குள் அழிக்கவேண்டும்.

இதன்மூலம் குழுக்களுக்கும் தனி நபர்களுக்கும் தவறுதலாகவோ, தெரியாமலோ அனுப்பப்பட்ட குறுஞ்செய்திகளை திரும்பப் பெறமுடியும். ஆனால் பெறுபவர்களுக்கு ’இந்த செய்தி அழிக்கப்பட்டது’ என்ற செய்தி வாட்ஸ் அப் தரப்பில் இருந்து அனுப்பப்படும். எப்படி அழிப்பது?

முதலில் ப்ளே ஸ்டோர் சென்று வாட்ஸ் அப் செயலியை அப்டேட் செய்துகொள்ள வேண்டும். செய்திகளையோ, புகைப்படங்களையோ மற்ற ஆவணங்களையோ அழிக்கும் வசதியை மேம்படுத்தப்பட்ட (Updated) வாட்ஸ் அப் சேவையில் மட்டுமே பெற முடியும்.

இதன் பின்னர் செய்தியை அழிக்கும் 'டெலிட்' பொத்தானைத் தொட்டால், மூன்று தெரிவுகள் திரையில் மிளிரும். நமக்கு மட்டும் அழிக்கவேண்டுமா (Delete for me), வெளியே வந்துவிடலாமா (Cancel), எல்லோருக்கும் அழிக்க வேண்டுமா (Delete for Everyone) என்பன அவை.

இதில் 'Delete for Everyone' தேர்வு மூலம் செய்திகளை அழிக்கமுடியும். ஆனால் செய்தியை அனுப்பிய 7 நிமிடங்களுக்குள் அழிக்கவேண்டும். உடனே நமக்கு 'இந்த மெசேஜை நீக்கிவிட்டீர்கள்' (You deleted this message) என்று வாட்ஸ் அப் நமக்கு செய்தி அனுப்பும்.



இதன்மூலம் குழுக்களுக்கும் தனி நபர்களுக்கும் தவறுதலாகவோ, தெரியாமலோ அனுப்பப்பட்ட குறுஞ்செய்திகளை திரும்பப் பெறமுடியும். ஆனால் பெறுபவர்களுக்கு 'இந்த செய்தி அழிக்கப்பட்டது' (This message was deleted)என்ற செய்தி வாட்ஸ் அப் தரப்பில் இருந்து அனுப்பப்படும்.

ஏராளமான குறுஞ்செய்தி செயலிகள் இணைய சந்தையில் வரத் தொடங்கியுள்ள நிலையில், உலகின் மிகப்பெரிய குறுஞ்செய்தி நிறுவனமான வாட்ஸ் அப் தனது பயனர்களுக்குத் தொடர்ந்து பல்வேறு புதிய அம்சங்களை அறிமுகப்படுத்தி வருவது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. குறிப்பாக ஃபேஸ்புக் நிறுவுனம், வாட்ஸ் அப்பைக் கையகப்படுத்திய பிறகு, இத்தகைய சிறப்பம்சங்கள் முன்னெடுக்கப்பட்டு வருகின்றன.

இசைக் கருவிகளுடன் பிரகாஷ்..



‘ஊட்டியைச் சேர்ந்த பிரகாஷ் 5 டிகிரி படித்து, 16 பட்டயப் படிப்புகளையும் முடித்திருக்கிறார். அத்துடன் 18 இசைக் கருவிகளையும் இசைக்கத் தெரிந்திருக்கிறார். இத்தனையும் கற்ற இவர், அரசுப் போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்தின் நடத்துநர்!’ வாசகர் ஒருவர் ‘தி இந்து - இங்கே.. இவர்கள்..இப்படி!’ பகுதிக்கான அலைபேசி (044 42890013) எண்ணில் இப்படியொரு தவலை பதிவு செய்திருந்தார்.

ஆர்வக் கோளாறு

உதகை அருகே கடநாடு கிராமம் பிரகாஷின் சொந்த ஊர். தற்போது உதகையில் வசிக்கும் இவர், அரசு போக்குவரத்துக் கழகத்தின் உதகை கிளை 1-ல் நடத்துநராக பணியாற்றுகிறார். இவரது வீட்டுக்குள் நுழைந்ததுமே ஏதோ ஒலிப்பதிவு கூடத்துக்குள் நுழைந்துவிட்ட பிரம்மை ஏற்படுகிறது. வீட்டின் ஒரு பக்கத்தை இசைக் கருவிகள், ஒலிவாங்கி மற்றும் ஒலிபரப்பு கருவிகள் ஆக்கிரமித்திருக்க.. இன்னொரு பக்கம், பழுதுநீக்க வந்திருந்த தொலைக்காட்சிப் பெட்டி உள்ளிட்ட மின்னணு சாதனங்கள் குவிந்து கிடக்கின்றன.

இதையெல்லாம் பார்த்து பிரம்மித்து நின்ற நம்மை சிரித்துக் கொண்டே வரவேற்ற பிரகாஷ், “ரொம்பப் பயந்துடாதீங்க. நடத்துநர் பணியும் எலெக்ட்ரானிக் சாதனங்களை ரிப்பேர் பண்றதும் தான் நம்ம தொழில். இசையும், கூடுதலா படிச்ச படிப்புகளும் ஆர்வக் கோளாறு!” என்றார்.

தபேலா, மிருதங்கம், டிரம்ஸ், புல்லாங்குழல், செனாய், கிளாரிநெட், டிரம்பெட், வயலின், கீ போர்ட்டு, புல்புல்தாரா, என 18 வகையான இசைக் கருவிகளை அநாயசமாக வாசித்து வியக்க வைக்கிறார் பிரகாஷ். 2010-ல், தமிழக அரசு கலைச்சுடர்மணி விருது வழங்கி இவரை கவுரவித்திருக்கிறது. இவரது தந்தை கிருஷ்ணன் தலைமை ஆசிரியராக இருந்தவர். வாசிப்புப் பிரியரான தந்தையார் தந்த ஊக்கமும் ஆக்கமுமே படிப்பின் மீதான தனது ஆர்வத்தை அதிகப்படுத்தியது என்று சொல்லும் பிரகாஷ், இளங்கலையில் இரண்டு, முதுகலையில் மூன்று என மொத்தம் ஐந்து பட்டங்களை பெற்றிருக்கிறார். அத்துடன், இசை, ஓவியம், கணினி, ஹார்டுவேர், நகை வடிவமைப்பு, வேளாண்மை உள்ளிட்ட 16 துறைசார்ந்த படிப்புகளில் அரசு அங்கீகாரம் பெற்ற பட்டயங்களையும் பெற்றிருக்கிறார்.

ஓய்வு நேரத்தில் இசை மற்றும் ஓவியப் பயிற்சி வகுப்புகளையும் நடத்தும் பிரகாஷிடம், “இவ்வளவும் படித்துவிட்டு எதற்காக நடத்துநர் பணியைத் தேர்வு செய்தீர்கள்?” என்று கேட்டதற்கு, “படிப்புக்கு வயதும் இல்லை; எல்லையும் இல்லை. படிக்க ஆர்வம் இருந்ததால் தொடர்ந்து படித்தேன். முடிந்தவரை எல்லாத் துறைகளையும் பற்றி தெரிந்துகொள்ள வேண்டும் என நினைத்தேன். அதுதான் நான் படித்துப்பெற்ற பட்டயங்கள். நேர்முகத் தேர்வுக்கான கடிதங்கள் தாமதமாகக் கிடைத்ததால் அரசுப் பணிக்கான வாய்ப்புகள் சிலவற்றை தவறவிட்டேன். கடைசியில், நமக்கு அமைந்தது நடத்துநர் பணிதான். இதையும் ஆத்ம திருப்தியுடன் செய்கிறேன்” என்றார் பிரகாஷ்.

NEET 2018: National Board of Examinations (NBE) will conduct NEET 2018 on January 7. In a notification released on the official website – nbe.edu.in, the board has announced that the registration process will begin on October 31. The last date to submit the applications is by November 27, 2017.

NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) is the single eligibility cum entrance examination for admission to postgraduate medical courses (MD/ MS and PG Diploma courses).

Eligibility criteria:

Education: Only those candidates can apply who have an MBBS degree or provisional MBBS pass certificate from a recognised college. He/ She should possess permanent or provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the Medical Council of India or State Medical Council.

Candidate should also have completed one year of internship or are expected to complete the internship on or before March 31, 2018.

Registration fees: For general category and OBC, it is Rs 3,750 while for SC/ST/ PWD/ PH, it is Rs 2,750.

The Computer Based Test (CBT) will comprise of 300 multiple choice questions from the MBBS curriculum followed at medical colleges in India. The syllabus for the exam shall comprise of subjects/knowledge areas as per the Graduate Medical Education Regulations issued by Medical Council of India with prior approval of Government of India

Flood scare messages back on social media

Chennai: As the North East monsoon has set it, social media is flooded with all kinds of information you need to get through the day – the favourable routes to take and giving out latest weather reports. Some frequently asked questions are – Which parts of the city are water-logged, which route is traffic congested? How long will the rains last for? These dedicated Facebook pages, news outlets and Twitter hash tags are doing great service by helping people in need.

But unfortunately, the same social media is also used to spread unverified and wrong news.

This morning (Tuesday) many woke up to WhatsApp messages saying that Sathyam Cinemas in Royapettah was being opened for people to come and stay and food packets will be available for those in need along with a list of help line numbers of volunteers.

The incessant rains which began on Sunday evening does bring back memories of the 2015 floods, it was social media which helped several people from flooded buildings and homes. Rescue missions were carried by simply posting a message, raise an alert and circulated emergency numbers.

However, this time around all the messages being circulated in 2015 are doing the rounds now.

On WhatsApp, several texts messages surprised users, ‘I got text message on a group saying that people living in inundated areas can reach a list of numbers for rescue and 5000 food packets and bed sheets were ready to be distributed along with phone numbers for it.

I was surprised and I thought things were really bad out there. Then the text message appeared very familiar and I found it was a message from the 2015 floods and pointed out in the group asking people to stop spreading such news,’ says Arvind, a resident of Pallavaram.

Anand Vaidyanathan, who runs the Facebook page TN Flood Support, now called as The New face of society was one of the active pages channelising information and relief material during the 2015 deluge.

He says, “Since the rains began, any negative news brings in hysteria. So on our page we share only weather and traffic updates. If we put out any kind of information which affects people, they will pack their bags and leave the city in fear, so we are very wary of it”, he said.

A long text message doing the rounds said, “Indian Navy- 10 of their expert divers and rescue personnel with boats at Gandhi Nagar (along with a contact number),  food packets are ready for distribution. SRM University is accommodating people in their buildings, whoever stranded in GST please go there. Sathyam Cinemas (Royapettah) will be open for everyone tonight for stay, do get in touch. Similar texts conveyed a number of phone numbers of people willing to help and another text with these information ended with the statement, “If you don’t share this, you are not a true Tamilan.”

When News Today dialed the numbers, the users either disconnected the call at the first ring or never picked the calls.

Fatima students helpless, threatened to commit suicide

The 2015-16 batch MBBS students of Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences (FIMS), Kadapa, have urged Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to intervene and address their “life and death” problem, Even as the students of Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences (FIMS) in Kadapa threatened to commit mass suicide if the State government does not help them in getting admission to any other medical colleges with retrospective.

On Tuesday, Fathima students along with their parents organized a two day hunger strike at Dharna Chowk

As many as 100 students got admissions in FIMS in the 2015-16 batch. As there was no approval from Medical Council of India (MCI) for the seats in that academic year, the Supreme Court cancelled their admissions 10 months after the commencement of academic year.

Driver who robbed ATM cash caught with accomplices

Chennai: Four persons, including a van driver, who escaped with Rs 28 lakh meant to be filled in a public sector bank’s ATM at the airport here last week, were arrested, police said.

The driver Udayakumar, Devaraj, Karthikeyan and Pandian, were arrested and an amount of Rs 16.04 lakh and gold jewellery worth Rs 5.01 lakh purchased using the booty were recovered from them, police said in a release here.

Udayakumar was driving the vehicle carrying the cash to be deposited in the ATM and arrived at the Chennai airport on 26 October.

After dropping the personnel involved in filling the cash at the ATM kiosk of the bank, he later stopped the vehicle at a near by spot along with the security, the release said.

Then he gave a letter to the security and asked him to hand over it to the others, whom he dropped off near the ATM kiosk.

When the latter left the place, Udayakumar escaped with the vehicle containing Rs 28 lakh, the release said. A police complaint was immediately filed.

A special police team was formed to probe the case and the accused were arrested today, the release said, adding they were remanded to judicial custody.

The four-wheeler used by them to flee with the cash was also recovered from their possession, it said.

Neuro pioneer, Krishnamoorthy Srinivas passes away

Chennai: Dr Krishnamoorthy Srinivas, the first person to achieve the qualification of DM (Doctor of Medicine) in neurology, in the country, passed away due to age-realted illness today.

Having been inactive in the field for a while, due to his ailment, he was admitted to a private hospital in Mylapore two days ago, where he passed away this morning at the age of 85.

He is survived by his wife Padma Srinivas and his children Dr Ennapadam S Krishnamoorthy, Aparna and Saikrishna Rajagopal and grandchildren.

His last rites were performed at the Mylapore crematorium later in the day.

Doctor Krishnamoorthy was a true pioneer in the field of neurology and to him goes the credit of improving treatment and diagnosis in stroke, epilepsy and related stuff in the country.

A disciple of the founder of the Voluntary Health Services Medical Centre, the legendary K S Sanjivi, prof. Srinivas set up the department of neurology there, which later became the much-acclaimed of Institute of Neurological Sciences.

Ata a time when he was flooded with offers from abraod, Dr Srinivas chose to cast his lot here in Chennai itself. In his own words, he said, “I needed to be at a place where I could treat anybody, including poor patients and have the freedom to do what I chose to do.”

More than five decades ago (1965, to be precise), he set up an outpatient clinic at the VHS, that functioned out of a corridor in the building, with minimum furniture.

Srinivas dedicated his life to the development of neurology community. The two full-fledged departments of community neurology that he set up in Chennai, at the Voluntary Health Services and at the Public Health Centre, are models in community neurology that many find as inspirations even today.

Fully focused on serving the community at large, he willing waived off patients’ fees if they were poor. Prof Srinivas has rubbed shoulders with the high and mighty of the country (he had treated, among others, Jawharlal Nehru, Indra Gandhi, long before he settled down in Chennai), but he always remained close to his roots and treated every patient the same.

Professor Krishnamoorthy Srinivas was also inducted into the American Academy of Neurology, the largest body of professional neurologists worldwide, in July.

He was the first Indian to become an honorary member of the two top neurology associations in the world, having got a membership at the the American Neurological Association in 2003. He is also the first Indian neurologist to be elected to the Royal Colleges of London, Glasgow and Edinburgh.

His famous quote suggesting doctors to take the news slowly to the families of the patients, reads, “We cannot break the news of the disease immediately to the patient’s family. We have to do it slowly. Otherwise, the family will go away and may even go for multiple consultations, aggravating the condition of the patient.”

Srinivas was Emeritus Professor of Neurology at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute, Chennai, and an Honorary Visiting Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Madras, and at the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences in Tirupati. He was honorary consultant in Neurology for the armed forces between 1979 and 1995. He had published over 50 research articles in neurosciences in several national and international journals.

Over several years, through his Institute, Srinivas brought thought leaders and practitioners of neurology to the city and helped further research and treatment facilities in this part of the world.

Rlys extend free travel to awardees

NEW DELHI, Nov 1:

Ashok Chakra and Kirti Chakra awardees can now travel for free in executive class in any train for life, giving them travel benefits at par with the recipients of Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra, according to the railways.

As per a 2014 policy, the Railways Ministry provides free travel passes for 1st AC Class/Executive Class to Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees.

However, Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra and Shaurya Chakra awardees, and widows of posthumous gallantry awardees are entitled to lifelong free rail travel in 1st AC Class/2nd AC Class along with one companion over the entire railways network except the Metro Railway, Kolkata.
The decision to raise the entitlements of Ashok Chakra and Kirti Chakra awardees was made in August and a letter was issued on October 13 by the Railway Board to all zonal railways for necessary action to be taken in this regard.

“Ashok Chakra and Kirti Chakra awardees will now onwards be entitled to the same free rail travel facilities as admissible to the recipients of Param Vir Chakra and Maha Vir Chakra awardees”, the letter stated.

With the free rail pass, recipients of Ashok Chakra and Kirti Chakra will now be able to travel free of cost with a companion in not only the existing 1st AC coaches but also executive class on all trains including the Rajdhani, Shatabdi and Duronto.

The executive class is the railways’ version of business class in an aircraft, and is only found on Shatabdi Express trains, Tejas Express and a few Duronto Express trains. Fares of the Shatabdi Express executive class are generally double the normal AC chair car fares. (PTI)

Rural service bond for Maha doctors

The Maharashtra government is planning to retrospectively implement the mandatory rural service bond for MBBS students who took admission to the course in 2010, state medical education minister Girish Mahajan has said. For doctors, working in rural areas for a year is a mandatory provision made by the state government.

Mahajan said a list would be compiled online of the students completing their medical education, for their requirements in rural, semi-rural and tribal areas.

"The state government is also working on shifting online the entire allocation of rural areas to students. The plan is to implement the mandatory service for the students who took the admission in 2010. Those who have not yet completed their mandatory service, they will be given a period of next two years to complete it," he said in a statement. The bond is necessary so that the newly graduated students get an experience of working in rural areas.  It will also benefit  rural areas and this whole exercise will also help in developing a sense of social responsibility.'

40 percent seats on Mumbai-Ahmedabad route vacant, loss of Rs 29.91 crores in 3 months

Activist Anil Galgali has expressed that the maximum load of passengers on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad route is for sleeper class seats and it can be seen from the RTI that the ‘upper class’ seats are going vacant and the occupancy ratio is very poor

More than a month after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the first bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, a query under the Right to Information (RTI) Act has found that in past three months, 40 per cent of the seats on the Mumbai to Ahmedabad route are empty and 44 per cent of the seats on the Ahmedabad to Mumbai route are also empty.

It will be recalled that PM Modi on September 14, announced that India’ first bullet train would be launched in 2022, coinciding with 75 years of independence, and dubbed it as a definite step towards ‘New India’.

Advancing the scheduled launch from March 2023, the Modi Government will make the high-speed train operational between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in August 2022. The project will be funded by Japan.

However, activist Anil Galgali has claimed that the Modi Government, which is over enthusiastic to spend more than Rs. 1 lakh crores for running the bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, seems to have not done it's homework properly.

According to an information obtained on the basis of response by the Railway to a RTI query filed by Galgali, the railways have an accumulated loss of Rs 29.91 crores for the past three months as 40 per cent of the seats on the Mumbai to Ahmedabad route were empty and 44 per cent seats on the Ahmedabad to Mumbai route was also found empty.

Galgali had sought various information from the Western Railway (WR) about the seat occupancy on all the trains running between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to and fro for the past three months. The Chief Commercial Manager of the Western Railway (WR), Manjeet Singh, provided the information to Galgali pertaining to period from July 1, 2017, to September 30, 2017.

As per the information received through RTI on the 32 Mail and Express trains running from Mumbai to Ahmedabad, only 4,41,795 seats got booked out of the 7,35,630 seats on all the trains, thus, generating a revenue of Rs 30,16,24,623 out of the total expected revenue of Rs 44,29,08,220. “This means it has incurred a loss to the tune of Rs 14,12,83,597 in just three months. On the Ahmedabad to Mumbai route, a total of 31 Mail / Express trains are running on which 3,98,002 passengers traveled on the route on which the total capacity was 7,06,446 seats. This route accumulated a loss of Rs 15,78,54,489 as it could generate a revenue of only Rs 26,74,56,982 as against the expected capacity of Rs 42,53,11,471,” Galgali said.

The trains running on the route such as Duranto, Shatabadi, Gujarat Mail, Bhavnagar, Saurashtra, Vivek, Bhuj, Lokshakti are included in the data provided. The Ahmedabad Division Engineer informed in the reply that there is no fresh proposal for any new train on this route with them. The 12009 Shatabdi is the most famous and favourite train for Chair Car service. This train enroute to Ahmedabad had the capacity for 72,696 seats out of which it managed to sell only 36,117 seats. Of the total expected revenue of Rs 7,20,82,948 it could garner, only Rs 4,11,23,086. The Executive Chair Car consisted of 8216 seats, whereas only 3468 could be sold garnering a revenue of just Rs 64,14,345 out of the total expected capacity of Rs 1,63,57,898. The Shatabdi's 2010 Ahmedabad-Mumbai route story is no different. Out of the total 67,392 seats, only 22,982 seats got sold and revenue received was Rs 2,51,41,322 against expectation of 6,39,08,988.

Free train ride as no one at counter

The employee at the ticket counter did not report for duty as he was indisposed, following which the passengers boarded the Rameswaram-Madurai passenger train without tickets, a railway official here said.

Over 1,000 people from the island town of Rameswaram got a free ride on a Madurai-bound train on Wednesday as there was no staff to issue tickets at the railway station, PTI reports from Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu).

The employee at the ticket counter did not report for duty as he was indisposed, following which the passengers boarded the Rameswaram-Madurai passenger train without tickets, a railway official here said.

"As there was no one available at the counter till the train started moving, the passengers had to rush and catch the train at 5.30 am," he said.

A complaint has been sent to the divisional railway manager of Madurai in this connection, the official said.

Now, swipe to pay Electricity bills as TANGEDCO introduces Point of Sales machines

CHENNAI: Now, you can pay your electricity bill by swiping debit or credit cards as Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation ( TANGEDCO) has introduced Point of Sales (PoS) machines in select offices.

The PoS machines were introduced on Tuesday as a pilot project in the section offices of Mylapore division and distribution office of Chennai Central. It will later be introduced in all other section offices in a phased manner, according to Electricity Minister P Thangamani.

He urged consumers to make use of the cashless facility for the transaction at the collection counters.
Usually, banks and card processing networks charge swipe fees when consumers use the cards. The present bank transaction charge is 0.75 percent for debit and 1.25 percent for a credit card. But the PoS will not levy any service charges on consumers, the minister said.

Earlier, the minister signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Arun Bhagat, chief operating officer of GMR, Krishnagiri Special Economic Zone, to ensure SEZ gets uninterrupted power supply. The uninterrupted power supply to the SEZ being set up in 600 acres will help woo industries, said Bhagat.

The minister said the MoU was signed to encourage industrial growth under the Ease of Doing Business in Tamil Nadu. GMR has already gifted 15 acres of patta land to establish 230KV substation at Udanapalli, he said.

Tamil Nadu better than US and UK in flood management: Velumani

CHENNAI: Municipal Administration Minister S P Velumani on Tuesday claimed the Tamil Nadu government has made better arrangements than the United States and the United Kingdom in flood management in the State.

“Recently, Bengaluru faced heavy rain. Sometime ago, there were reports about floods in London and in the United States and that everything was floating there. But, in the State and in Chennai, we have made better arrangements for managing floods than the US and London (UK). Steps that have not been taken by even developed countries have been taken by the Tamil Nadu government. Late chief minister J Jayalalithaa had procured all modern equipment required for flood management and we have been praised for our works too,” the minister said while responding to media queries here after inspecting rain-affected areas.

Velumani said steps were being taken on a warfooting in all rural and urban local bodies. “Special attention is being paid to districts affected by heavy rain. IAS officers have been appointed to all 32 districts to monitor Northeast monsoon works. In Chennai alone, 17 IAS officers are monitoring rain-related works,” he said.

The minister fielded a volley of questions from mediapersons on rain-related incidents, particularly about water stagnation. Referring to the charges levelled by Leader of Opposition M K Stalin on problems faced by people in many areas due to heavy rain, he said, “making accusations are okay for the Opposition leader.” But it would be inappropriate for him to say that no preparatory work had been done to face the monsoon.

The situation was the worst during the DMK rule. In one particular year during the DMK rule, more than 1,400 places had water stagnation. At that point in time, water could not be drained for two weeks. “Now, that is not the situation, we have taken enough steps to remove stagnated water and move people affected in certain areas to safer places and provided them with basic needs,” he said.

CHENNAI: Two weeks into her love marriage, Savita (27) faced a problem. “I am a Tamilian and he is a Rajasthani. At first, he was okay eating South Indian fare I prepared at home. But as time passed, I could see that he was not really happy at meal times,” says the IT professional.

After a confrontation, he told her that he missed his mother’s food, particularly the dal chawal. “His parents stay in Rajasthan so it was understandable that he missed them, particularly his mother and her haath ka khana. We both work night shifts at the same office and totally hate restaurant food. So I knew I had to do something.”Gayathri ShreedharanThat’s when a friend recommended Rajasthani Homemade North Indian Jain Food Delivery Service. A lunch order and many satisfied burps later, her husband was a happy man again. “That is when I truly understood why they say that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach,” she smiles.

Seal of authenticity

This delivery service based in TNagar is only one of the many ventures in the city that operate out of homes instead of commercial kitchens. “We serve 100% authentic and pure Rajasthani and Jain food. It is all prepared by my 88-year-old grandmother, Mena Jain, single-handedly at home,” says Prashanth Jain, who manages the delivery and packing along with his friends.

At present, they tend to only lunch, but also undertake special weekend orders.“The lunch thali consists of Farsan (snacks), soup, three phulkas, two sabzis, dal and rice. We also prepare traditional North Indian dishes that you will not find anywhere else in the city, like Mawa paratha, Dry fruit paratha, etc in the weekends or on special request,” he says.

All of two months old, it already boasts of 50 regular customers, all through word of mouth. “Whenever I come to Chennai on business, I make sure to order from Rajasthani Homemade as it reminds me of my mother’s cooking. I am very particular about eating food cooked by Jain cooks,” says Barath, a Vellore-based businessman.

It has only been two months since Ranjana Banerjee (52) started her Bengali homemade food delivery service in Mogappair West, but her customers already vouch for the authenticity of her dishes. “They tell me that my maach (fish) is almost as good as their moms,” she laughs. “We provide veg and non-veg thali for lunch, and roti-sabzi for dinner. I do all the cooking and my husband delivers them to nearby areas.”

Mixed clientele

“When we started out seven years ago with the blessings of Mahaperiyava, our primary aim was to cater to the elderly because we noticed that there were many old-aged couples in our neighbourhood who lived alone and did not prefer hiring a cook,” says Gayathri Shreedharan (41) who runs Akshaya S Homemade Food Delivery Services that delivers pure homemade Brahmin vegetarian breakfast, lunch and dinner in Choolaimedu, Kodambakkam, Mahalingapuram, Nungambakkam, and T Nagar and parts of Vadapalani.

“Our regular customers include both bachelors and family, but our primary customer segment is the elderly,” adds the chef who has hired two people for helping out in the kitchen, and delivering.
Shankari (50) runs a South Indian homemade food service in Velachery she has not named, exclusively for bachelors. “They do not eat healthy because most of them move to other cities for jobs and don’t stay with families.

I prepare traditional Tamil Nadu dishes like Siruthaniya, Kuthiravali, Kollu kanji, etc that I am sure many aren’t aware of,” she smiles. “Most of my clients are working professionals who have erratic schedules and do not want to eat unhealthy food from restaurants or even office canteens,” says Maheshwari (32) of Magi’s Kitchen, Ullagaram, that delivers vegetarian Brahmin lunch to nearby areas.
“I started this venture because cooking is my passion. I cannot stop even if I want to because my customers enjoy my food,” she beams, adding that she has 15 regular customers, for whom she personally cooks and delivers lunch and snacks on her two-wheeler.

Orders & customisations

Time is of essence when it comes to homemade food delivery ventures. “We need to receive orders at least a day in advance, so that we can meet the demand,” says Prashanth Jain. “This is especially the case when we have to make pure Jain food (no onion, garlic, carrots and potatoes), and special items like Sogra mooli ki sabzi (a radish dish), Daal dhokli (dumplings in pulses), and traditional sweets on request. They can customise their dishes.”

But this factor, however, is a major turn off for foodies. Asif Yahya, a marketing professional in the city, says, “Homemade delivery services are great hygiene-wise and they definitely send you on a nostalgic flavour trip, but they cannot satisfy my spontaneous hunger pangs…and so Swiggy it is!”

Two girls electrocuted in Chennai, Tangedo suspends five officials

CHENNAI: Two girls, both aged eight years, were electrocuted when they jumped into stagnant rain water near an electricity junction box near their home at R R Nagar in Kodungaiyurhere on Wednesday afternoon. Another eight-year-old girl escaped as she avoided stepping into the stagnant water after seeing her friends falling into the water.

Police identified the victims as Bhavana and Yuvashri, both residents of F Block at R R Nagar. They were students of a nearby government school. The two girls and their friend Akshaya were playing, as it was a rain holiday for schools.

Bhavana and Yuvashri, who jumped into the stagnant water, might have stepped on a live power cable that lay under the water, a relative of one of the girls said. They suffered electric shock and fell unconscious.

Akshaya, who noticed her friends falling, avoided jumping into the water. Hearing Akshaya' cries, residents rushed to the spot.

They alerted police and TNEB officials. The power supply was disconnected. The girls were taken to Government Stanley Medical College and Hospital where they were declared brought dead.

Angry residents staged a protest condemning negligence on the part of officials. "Most junction boxes in the locality have been lying open for several months. There was no action on our complaints from officials," said B James, a resident.

Tangedo suspended five officials, including executive engineer Kumaresan, assistant divisional engineer Rajkumar and assistant engineer Dilli, for negligence.

HC dismisses PIL to name judges’ quarters after former CM MGR

CHENNAI: Asserting that it is not in the annals of judiciary to name any building, meant for their use, after the name of any prominent or political leaders, the Madras high court has dismissed a PIL seeking to name residential quarters of judicial officers in Egmore as 'Bharat Ratna Dr M G Ramachandran residential complex for judicial officers.'

"For maintaining a PIL, it must be shown that the government has failed to discharge its public duty or they have breached the well established procedures while discharging their public duty or there is any violation of any provisions of law or constitutional mandate in discharge of such duty. The petitioner also must show that there is violation or transgression of any law by the authorities and such violation warrants judicial interference.

In this case, we are of the firm opinion that the petitioner has not demonstrated that there is any infringement of any of his fundamental or legal right warranting our interference. Therefore, we refrain from entering into an arena, over which the state only has exclusive domain either to name or re-name any building," a division bench of Justices R Subbiah and A D Jagadish Chandira said.

According to the petitioner, senior advocate A E Chelliah, a scheme was drawn in 1978 for building residential quarters for the judicial officers in the cadre of sub judge and district judge at Egmore and Saidapet court premises. A foundation stone was also laid by the then Chief Justice of Madras high court Ramaprasad Rao, after that no tangible action was taken. But after J Jayalalithaa became the chief minister in 1993, she passed a government order sanctioning Rs 7.33 crore for the construction of the quarters.

Pointing out that several buildings are named after the departed souls who were instrumental in doing remarkable deeds, the petitioner said, "In view of the centenary birth anniversary of MGR the residential quarters should be named after him."

He further claimed that a representation made by him in this regard to the Registrar (Management) of the high court was rejected on February 22 prompting him to approach the high court.

Chitlapakkam waiting for an administrator

CHENNAI: With the state government in no mood to conduct local body polls, residents of Chitlapakkam have become a worried lot. The town panchayat in the southern suburb has been on 'auto-pilot' for the last two months, as the state government has failed to appoint a permanent executive officer (EO) to administer its affairs.

In the absence of an EO, who is equivalent to a special officer in a municipal corporation, Chitlapakkam residents complained that their grievances are going unattended. "The Perungalathur EO looks after Chitlapakkam as an additional responsibility. But he is rarely available at the town panchayat office," said P Viswanathan, a local resident.

According to official sources, a town panchayat department officer from Velloredistrict was appointed as Chitlapakkam EO more than 10 days ago. "But he has not yet been relieved from his post in Vellore due to unknown reasons," said a department official.

The Perungalathur EO, who has been handling the affairs of Chitlapakkam for nearly two months, told TOI that residents were exaggerating the situation. "Due to the dengue fever situation, my presence is required at the Kancheepuram collectorate frequently. This is the reason for my absence at Chitlapakkam on many days," he said.

But for residents like R Krishnamurthy of Anna Nagar, the situation is not so simple. "For instance, my street light is not functioning, I ring up the town panchayat office and registered a complaint. Since there is no permanent supervisory officer, the staff have become complacent. There is no accountability. Many times, the complaints are not registered or is only attended to after repeated calls and personal visits to the panchayat office," he said.

Meanwhile, the situation has also given rise to a political blame game between the incumbent MLA and a former MP with strong ties to Chitlapakkam. Residents recently called on Tambaram MLA S R Raja of the DMK in this regard. Speaking to TOI, Raja said former AIADMK MP Chitlapakkam Rajendran wields considerable influence in the area. "The officers who obey his instructions alone are allowed to work (in Chitlapakkam). Being an MLA, I can only request the government, which seems to be doing nothing," said Raja.

Rajendran denied the MLA's allegations. "I am neither an MLA nor an MP. How can I be accused of influencing anybody. This is merely a political attack to cover up his (Raja) failures," said Rajendran.

Central employees cannot move HC without approaching CAT, says HC

CHENNAI: The Madras high court has made it clear that employees of public sector undertaking or similar institutions defined as workmen under the provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act, cannot approach the high court directly without approaching the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT).

Justice T Raja passed the order while dismissing a plea moved by D Inbavalli, an employee of State Bank of India (SBI), challenging the show cause notice issued to her. It was alleged that the petitioner, while serving as a special assistant in the bank's Koyambedu branch, was involved in misappropriation of Rs 1,000 belonging to a customer. Based on a complaint, the administration issued a charge memo on May 10, 2012.

Noting that the plea is not maintainable for various reasons, the judge said, "Firstly, the petition is not maintainable, for the simple reason that the petitioner being a workman under section 2(s) of the Act, has to approach the CAT, Chennai by rising a dispute after final order is passed by the employer.

That stage has not yet come. Secondly, CAT in the event of entertaining the industrial dispute, could go into the correctness of the charges, the fairness of enquiry and the quantum of punishment, if any, imposed on the petitioner. That stage also has not yet reached. Thirdly, the issuance of second show cause notice indicating the proposed punishment having been dispensed with by the Constitution (42nd Amendment) Act, 1976, the writ petition is not maintainable under Article 226 of the Constitution of India."
