சென்னை,

ஆலந்தூர் மெட்ரோ ரெயில் நிலையத்தில் லூப் லைன் வசதி செய்யப்பட்டிருந்ததால், கோயம்பேடு மார்க்கத்தில் இருந்து வரும் ரெயில்கள் அனைத்தும் விமான நிலையம் வரை இயக்கப்பட்டது. இதில் தொழில்நுட்ப ரீதியாக சில பிரச்சினைகள் ஏற்பட்டதால் அந்த வசதி நிறுத்திக் கொள்ளப்பட்டது.

இதனால் மெட்ரோ ரெயிலில் கோயம்பேடு, நேரு பூங்கா பகுதிகளில் இருந்து விமானநிலையம் செல்லும் பயணிகள் ஆலந்தூரில் இறங்கி விமான நிலையத்துக்கு செல்ல வேறு ரெயில் மாற வேண்டும். சூட்கேஸ் உள்ளிட்டவற்றுடன் வரும் பயணிகள் இதனால் சிரமப்பட்டு வந்தனர்.

மீண்டும் சேவை

அத்துடன் ஆலந்தூர் ரெயில் நிலையத்தில் இறங்கி, விமான நிலையம் செல்லும் ரெயில் வரும் வரை காத்திருக்க வேண்டி இருக்கிறது. இதுகுறித்து பொதுமக்கள் அளித்த புகார்களை அதிகாரிகள் பரிசீலனை செய்தனர். அதனடிப்படையில் தொழில்நுட்ப ரீதியிலான பிரச்சினை நிவர்த்தி செய்யப்பட்டது.

இந்தநிலையில், மீண்டும் கோயம்பேடு மார்க்கத்தில் இருந்து வரும் ரெயில்கள் ஆலந்தூரில் நிறுத்தப்படாமல் விமானநிலையம் வரை நீட்டிக்க முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டு தற்போது இயக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது. கோயம்பேடு வழித்தடத்தில் இருந்து வரும் ரெயில்களில் சில ரெயில்கள் விமான நிலையம் வரை இயக்கவும், மற்ற ரெயில்களை வழக்கம் போல் பரங்கிமலை வரை இயக்கவும் திட்டமிடப்பட்டு உள்ளது.

நேரு பூங்காவில் இருந்து விமான நிலையம் வரை 20 கிலோ மீட்டர் தூரத்தை ரூ.54 கட்டணத்தில் 40 நிமிடங்களில் செல்ல முடியும்.

சென்னை மெரினா கடற்கரையில் ஜெர்மன் தம்பதி அழைத்து வந்த வெளிநாட்டு நாய் மாயமானது. அந்த நாயை போலீஸார் தேடியபோது அதே உருவத்தோற்றத்தில் தெருவில் சுற்றித்திரிந்த இன்னொரு நாயைப் பிடித்து போலீஸ் நிலையத்துக்கு கொண்டு வந்தனர். அந்த நாய் செய்த

அட்டகாசத்தால் மெரினா போலீஸ் நிலையமே பரபரப்பானது.
ஜெர்மனியைச் சேர்ந்த ஸ்டீஃபன் கக்ராஹ் மற்றும் அவர் மனைவியும் சுற்றுலாவுக்காக சென்னை வந்தனர். தங்களுடன் கறுப்பு நிற நாய் ஒன்றையும் அழைத்துவந்திருந்தனர். அந்த நாயின் பெயர் 'லூக்'. மெரினா கடற்கரையில் லூக்கை காரில் கட்டிவைத்திருந்த ஜெர்மன் தம்பதி, காருக்குள் அமர்ந்திருந்தனர். இந்த சமயத்தில் லூக்கை யாரோ திருடிச் சென்றுவிட்டனர் . இதுகுறித்து அவர்கள் மெரினா போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் புகார் கொடுத்தனர். அதன்பேரில் லூக்கை போலீஸார் தேடி வருகின்றனர். இதற்கிடையில் சமூக வலைதளத்திலும் லூக்கின் புகைப்படத்தைப் பதிவு செய்த ஜெர்மன் தம்பதி, அதைக் கண்டுபிடித்து தருபவர்களுக்குத் தக்க சன்மானம் வழங்கப்படும் என்று தெரிவித்திருந்தனர். இந்தத் தகவல் வைரலாகப் பரவியது.

போலீஸாரைவிட நெட்டிசன்கள் லூக்கை அதிகமாகத் தேடினர். ராயபுரம் பகுதியில் லூக்கின் உருவத் தோற்றத்துடன் ஒரு நாய் சுற்றித்திரிந்தது. அதைப்பார்த்த இளைஞர்கள், லூக் என்று கருதி, மெரினா போலீஸ் நிலையத்துக்குத் தகவல் கொடுத்தனர். உடனே, மெரினா போலீஸார் அங்கு சென்றனர். அங்கே சுற்றித் திரிந்த கறுப்பு நிற நாயைப் பிடிக்க முயன்றனர். அப்போது, அந்த நாய் ஓட்டம் பிடித்தது. போலீஸார் அதை விரட்டிச் சென்றனர். நீண்ட போராட்டத்துக்குப் பிறகு, அந்த நாயைப் பிடித்தனர். பிறகு, அதைப் பத்திரமாக போலீஸ் நிலையத்துக்கு அழைத்து வந்தனர். உடனடியாக இந்தத் தகவல் ஜெர்மன் தம்பதிக்குத் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது. அவர்களும் மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தனர். நாயை உடனடியாகப் பார்க்க வேண்டும் என்று ஜெர்மன் தம்பதியினர் போலீஸாரிடம் அன்பு வேண்டுகோள் விடுத்தனர். இதனால், நாயை செல்போனில் போட்டோ எடுத்து, ஜெர்மன் தம்பதிக்கு வாட்ஸ் அப்பில் அனுப்பினர். அதைப் பார்த்து முதலில் ஜெர்மன் தம்பதி மகிழ்ச்சியடைந்தனர். தொடர்ந்து போட்டோவை உற்று நோக்கியபோது, அது தங்களுடைய நாய் இல்லை என்பதை ஜெர்மன் தம்பதி உறுதிப்படுத்தினர். பின்னர், இந்தத் தகவல் மெரினா போலீஸாருக்கு தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டது. இதனால், அந்த நாயை மீண்டும் ராயபுரத்துக்கு அழைத்து சென்ற போலீஸார் அங்கு விட்டனர்.
இதுகுறித்து போலீஸ் வட்டாரங்கள் கூறுகையில், "லூக்கைக் காணாமல் ஜெர்மன் தம்பதி கண்ணீர்மல்க எங்களிடம் புகார் கொடுத்தனர். நாய் மிஸ்ஸிங் தகவல் சமூக வலைதளத்திலும் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டது. இதனால் கறுப்பு நிற நாய் குறித்து எங்களுக்கு போன் கால்கள் வந்தன. அப்படித்தான் இன்று காலை காசிமேட்டில் கறுப்பு நிற நாய் குறித்து தகவல் சொல்லப்பட்டது. இதனால், அங்கு போலீஸார் சென்று அந்த நாயை சிரமப்பட்டு பிடித்துக்கொண்டுவந்தோம். பிடிப்பதற்குள் எங்கள் எல்லாரையும் படாதபாடுபடுத்திவிட்டது. இருப்பினும் அந்த நாயின் போட்டோவை வாட்ஸ் அப்பில் ஜெர்மன் தம்பதிக்கு அனுப்பியபோது அவர்களும் 'தாங்க்ஸ்' என்று மெஜேஜ் அனுப்பினர்.
 இதனால், நாயைக் கண்டுப்பிடித்துக் கொடுத்த திருப்தியில் நாங்கள் நிம்மதியடைந்தோம். அதற்குள் ஜெர்மன் தம்பதியின் நாயின் வயிற்றுப்பகுதியில் வெள்ளை நிறம் இருக்கும். ஆனால், நாங்கள் வாட்ஸ்அப்பில் அனுப்பிய நாயின் புகைப்படத்தில் வெள்ளை நிறமில்லை. அதைக்கண்டுப்பிடித்த ஜெர்மன் தம்பதி, இந்த நாய் எங்களுடையது இல்லை என்று தெரிவித்தனர். இதனால் ராயபுரத்திலேயே அந்த நாயை மீண்டும் கொண்டுபோய் விட்டுவிட்டோம். போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் நாய், எல்லோரையும் பார்த்து குரைத்தது. நல்லவேளை யாரையும் அந்த நாய் கடிக்கவில்லை" என்றனர்.

நாய் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டதாகத் தகவல்
இதற்கிடையில் ஜெர்மன் தம்பதியின் நாய், கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டதாகத் தகவல் வெளியானது. இதைச் சிலர் செய்தியாகவும் வெளியிட்டனர். ஜெர்மன் தம்பதியினர், அந்த நாய் தங்களுடையது இல்லை என்று தெரிவித்தப் பிறகே செய்தி தவறானது என்பது தெரியவந்தது. ஜெர்மன் தம்பதியினர் தொலைத்த நாயால் மெரினா போலீஸ் நிலையத்துக்கு நாய் குறித்த விசாரிக்கும் படலம் அதிகமாகிவிட்டதாக அங்குள்ள போலீஸார் தெரிவித்தனர்.

சென்னையின் இரவை ஸ்பெஷலாக்கிய மழை!

நேற்று மாலை வரை சென்னையில் இப்படி விடிய, விடிய மழை பெய்யும் என்று சென்னை வாசிகள் கற்பனை கூட செய்து பார்த்திருக்க மாட்டார்கள். வழக்கம் போல, வெயிலின் ஆதிக்கமே மாலை வரை இருந்தது. ஆனால், இரவு நேரத்தில் நிலைமை மாறத்தொடங்கியது. இரவு 9, 10 மணி அளவில் குளிர்ந்த காற்று வீசத்தொடங்கியது. இதையடுத்து, மழைத்தூரல்கள் விழத்தொடங்கின.

அவர் சொன்னது போலவே, சென்னை, திருவள்ளூர், காஞ்சிபுரம் உள்ளிட்ட பகுதிகளில் நல்ல மழை பெய்து வருகிறது. குறிப்பாக, சோழவரம் பகுதியில் 150 மி.மீ மழை பதிவாகியுள்ளது. மிஞ்சூரில் 68 மி.மீ மழையும், கடம்பத்தூர் (திருவள்ளூர்) பகுதியில் 82 மி.மீ மழையும் பதிவாகியுள்ளது. இரவு முழுவதும் மழைக்கு கியாரன்டி என்று வெதர்மேன் மீண்டும் கூறியிருப்பது கூடுதலான குளிர்ச்சித் தகவல்.

RTI applicant in Chennai gets 5 kg wrong documents as reply from state food safety department

CHENNAI: A motor mechanic, who had sought information on the status of a complaint he filed with the state food safety department under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, recently received a reply which is probably the lengthiest in the State.

The response was so lengthy that paper sheets that were attached by the department weighed a whopping five kilograms. Ironically, the petitioner did not get the answers to his complaint.

M Kasimayan, a Thiruvottiyur resident, had lodged a complaint with the commissioner of Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Control Administration department in July 2016 about poor quality rice allegedly being served by a private departmental store in his neighbourhood.

Though it was forwarded to the designated food safety officer in Thiruvallur district, no action was taken. Unhappy with this, Kasimayan filed an RTI petition with the food safety department in August 2016.

Of his seven questions, only three were answered, with the remaining questions (pertaining to the specific case) referred to the designated officer in Thiruvallur.

Following this, he was ignored three times, after which Kasimayan again wrote to the state information commission on June 26, 2017, to initiate contempt proceedings.

Fearing the wrath of the commission, the public information officer of the food safety department, C Balasubramanian, finally sent a reply the very next day. And Kasimayan was startled to find several hundred sheets as a response.

”Though I had sought details about follow-ups to my complaint filed on July 2016, the department by mistake sent me details on follow-ups to all the complaints they received since July 2016,” Kasimayan told Express.

However, details on the exact action are taken with respect to the complaint were missing again. He also expressed qualms over public money being misspent in the form of providing irrelevant information.

Balasubramanian was unavailable for comment, while Express was denied access when it tried meeting him at his office.

Gazette notification valid for name correction: Kerala State Human Rights Commission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) on Sunday said a person’s name can be corrected on the SSLC and higher secondary certificates once the change was published in the state government gazette. 

Considering a petition which alleged authorities were refusing to correct the names on SSLC books and higher secondary certificates despite it being changed througwh the official process, KSHRC acting chairperson P Mohanadas said, “The person seeking a change of name in SSLC book based on a gazette notification has to submit an application to the state examination commissioner via the respective school.” The KSHRC also instructed the exam commissioner to take steps to correct the detail if such an application was submitted. 

It had earlier demanded an explanation from the exam commissioner based on the complaint. 
The exam commissioner had replied mistakes in details on certificates given to students passing the SSLC examination will be corrected only if the student pays a fee and submits an application to the commissioner with the necessary documents to prove the error. 

“This can only be done if clerical errors occurred in school documents with regards to details like name, caste, and religion,” the commissioner had said. “If a person’s name is changed via gazette notification, the rules say a copy of the gazette should be attached with the school certificate to prove the change,” they said. 

However, the complaint said the practice makes things difficult for students, especially those applying for higher studies abroad, as it causes confusion and complicates the application process. 

Mohanadas said though the school authorities were unauthorised to correct the details on high school certificates based on gazette notifications, the exam commissioner could do so in the case of name, religion or birth date. “There is a government order to this effect,” Mohanadas said.

With borewells running dry, residents rely on Chennai Metro Water

CHENNAI: Residents of Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Ambattur and Royapuram, areas which recorded the highest fall in groundwater levels since 2016, are forced to rely on Chennai Metro Water with borewells running dry. However, most residents have switched to buying water from private water tankers. Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Ambattur and Royapuram recorded a 2.88m, 2.35m and 2.19m drop in water levels respectively between March 2016 and March 2017.

In Thiruvengadam Nagar, a residential part of Ambattur, most borewells in apartments surrounding TI School have stopped yielding water. “We buy 13,000 litres of water every other day ever since our 200-foot bore ran dry,” said a resident of GV Ashirwad Apartments, who has lived there for 10 years.
The adjacent flat, however, has battled the dropping water levels with a 600-foot borewell. “Though water is available beyond 300 feet, it is very salty,” said A Dhoni, who recently started supplying water.

Luxury and bigger apartment complexes attract the attention of Metro Water but smaller apartments (less than 10 houses) face the brunt. “We arrange 800 litres of water per resident daily,” said an official from Kochar Panchsheel, an apartment complex with 430 houses in Ambattur Industrial Estate.

It is the same case in Thiru Vi Ka Nagar near Perambur, where private water tankers make daily trips. “People prefer our water to Metro Water as the latter cannot be used for drinking,” said the owner of Thirumurugan water supply.

Some residents, however, are wary of both Metro and private water. Govindasamy, a resident of Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, owns a 100-foot borewell. “I get very little water from the bore and am forced to wait for the Metro Water which is released on alternate days,” he said. Govindasamy plans to deepen his borewell by another 100 feet if the cleaning proves futile.

Hunt for water has become part of life for Royapuram locals, especially slum dwellers. Muthupandi, who lives in an apartment with 20 other families, says bore water is unfit for consumption. Deep bores have turned water salty and residents have to depend on tankers.
While the middle and upper-class strata buy water in tanker loads that are drained into underground sumps, low-income families buy water in `8 plastic pots. “Men and children bathe every day and the women bathe only once in two days,” said Mahalakshmi, while waiting in line. “Each family has a mutual understanding of how many containers are filled by each member.”

Metro water was supplying 800 MLD until December when local reservoirs such as Chembarambakkam, Veeranam and Neyveli started drying up, they cut the water supply to half. With groundwater evading borewells, private water suppliers are making a meal out of the situation.
