CHENNAI: A 60-year-old patient from Vijayawada got a new lease of life thanks to a special team of doctors at Kauvery Hospital here who plugged an aneurysm leak in the patient’s aorta using a unique method.

The surgery which was performed over six to seven hours by a team of 16 specialists from various departments used a specially designed stent graft created in the hospital’s cardiac cath lab to close the 10-cm wide leak in the aorta. “The graft was devised in the shape of a candy wrapper to perfectly fit into the groin vessel. This was then navigated into the neck of the aneurysm leak,” said A B Gopalamurugan, senior cardiologist who performed the surgery on September 7.

The patient, Sathyanarayana Kolla, was declared to be untreatable by many hospitals that he had approached previously in Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Chennai as the risk of death was above 40 per cent, said his family during a press meet conducted by the hospital on Saturday. “When he came to us he was in a very critical condition. His haemoglobin level was five points below the normal. He was suffering from severe renal failure and blood loss due to the leak caused by the abnormal swelling of the aorta’s wall,” said Gopalamurugan.

A team consisting of cardiovascular, vascular, plastic surgeons, cardiac radiologists, urologists and cardiologists closed the leak using the graft through an endovascular surgery after closely assessing the damage through 3D reconstructed scans. “The patient has a history of aortic ruptures since 2011. In 2016, a stent graft was placed to fix a leak. But three months ago, his blood vessels started weakening again and he showed all symptoms of an Aortic aneurysm,” he added.

Additionally, the hospital also launched its 24-hour Aortic Department which will tend to all medical conditions concerning the aorta with the help of a special team of doctors specialised in Aortic interventions.

Health minister inaugurates baby screening programme

Chennai: Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar on Saturday launched Neuberg Ehrlich’s Molecular Diagnostics and Genome lab in the city and inaugurated Neuberg Ehrlich new born screening facility at the Children’s Hospital, Egmore. Over 500 children can be screened at the facility per day. Children from Vellore district will be screened for Congenital Hypothyroidism and Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia on a pilot basis. GSK Velu, Chairman Neuberg Diagnostics Pvt. Ltd. said “Tamil Nadu has seen much advancement in healthcare and I’m happy to announce this new cutting edge facility in Chennai”. Minister of State for External Affairs & Overseas Indian Affairs Vijay Kumar Singh also took part in the event.

“Integration of psychiatry and neurology important”

Chennai: Psychiatrists and neurologists must work in tandem to identify effective treatment for complex epileptic problems, said Kousuke Kanemoto of Aichi Medical University, Japan, on Saturday. He was speaking at the 16th MV Arunachalam Endowment Lecture titled ‘Brainstorms and the Mind: Exploring the Borderlands Between Epilepsy and Schizophrenia’, orga-nised by Chennai-based Neurokrish and Trimed Therapy.

“Epilepsy and psychotic disorders like schizophrenia are often associated in many pati-ents. To treat such cases, a holistic treatment should include both mental care and brain care,” he said emphasising that both psychiatrists and neurologists have to come together to cure such cases.

CHENNAI: The amendment to Medical Institutions Regulations, prescribing 40-year as upper age limit for appointment as senior resident/assistant professor in government-run medical institutions by Medical Council of India, has been opposed by a section of doctors who have moved the Madras High Court terming it “unconstitutional, ultra vires, discriminatory and illegal”.

The high court has ordered notice to Medical Council of India (MCI) on the public interest litigation seeking interim injunction restraining Clause 6 of Schedule -I of amended Minimum Qualification for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998 and declare restriction imposed by MCI fixing 40-years as upper age limit for appointment to the post of senior resident/assistant professor in government-run medical Institutions as illegal.

A division bench of Justices S Manikumar and Subramanioum Prasad adjourned the hearing to September 19. According to petitioners, MCI amended the Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998 with effect from June 8, 2017 prescribing 40-years as upper age limit for appointment as senior resident in medical institutions.

“Any such prescription of age limit for a government doctor in medical service for appointment to the post of senior resident in teaching medical institutions would be against the object sought to be achieved under the provisions of Indian Medical Association Act and Minimum Qualification for Teachers in Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998, petitioners submitted.

When post graduation is a necessary qualification for posts of senior Resident or Assistant professor, any such restriction will lead to lack of requisite number of faculty, the petitioners said.

HC says rlys tribunal can’t insist on tickets for accident relief

Chennai: Non-production of a railway ticket cannot be cited to deny compensation to the kin of a person killed in rail accidents, said the Madras high court, directing Southern Railway to pay Rs 8 lakh compensation to the family of a deceased person.

“It is reiterated that the apex court as well as this court had time and again held that the burden of proving that the victim is not a bona fide passenger lies on the railways and that non-production of railway ticket is not fatal to the case of the claimants. Therefore, the Railway Tribunal should not have dismissed the petition on that ground,” Justice M V Muralidaran said, while setting aside the order of the tribunal.

The issue pertains to appeal moved by the family of Srinivasan, a passenger in a suburban train travelling from Tambaram to Chennai Beach station. During the travel, he accidentally fell down from moving train between Saidapet and Mambalam railway stations and sustained injuries, and later died.

Their application for due compensation was rejected by the tribunal on the ground that the family had failed to produce a valid ticked possessed by the deceased to prove that he was a bona fide traveller.

Challenging the order, the family moved the high court. Pointing out that Rs 2,510 was recovered from the body of the deceased, the court said, having had the money, deceased would have definitely purchased the train ticket for his travel.

Hospital told to pay Rs 58 lakh to kin of man who died after surgery

CHENNAI: Holding a city-based hospital and its doctors liable for death of a 29-yearold man due to medical negligence, the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission directed the hospital to pay Rs57.65 lakh as compensation to his family.

“The hospital and the doctors concerned have failed to prove that the deceased, Abani Kumar Padhi, had not died due to any negligence on their part. This leads us to the conclusion that the complainant’s son Padhi died of medical negligence exhibited by hospital and its doctors,” said the commission comprising K Baskaran, judicial member, and S M Murugesshan, member.

The issue pertains to a complaint filed by Narasingh Paddhi and Kuri Padhi, parents of the deceased. According to them, their son underwent haemorrhoidectomy (piles operation) in 2003 in the hospital. On October 15, 2003, he came to the outpatient department of the hospital for routine check-up after which the hospital informed his parents that he was unconscious and was admitted in ICCU for recovery.

Till November 2, 2003, none of the family members or friends of Abhani was allowed to see him but they were informed that he was kept on artificial ventilator. When the medical bill reached Rs3 lakh, the maximum insurance cover available, the hospital informed the complainants that the patient had suffered brain death. Once all other pending bills were settled, he was later declared dead, the complainants said.

Claiming that their son died due to the negligence on part of the hospital, they approached the commission seeking Rs96 lakh compensation for the monetary loss and mental agony suffered.

Partly allowing the complaint, the commission said, “No reference from any medical literature could be produced by the hospital to the effect that general anaesthesia should be preferred to other modes such as local anaesthesia, spine anaesthesia for post-operative check-up after piles operation. Hence, we are of the view that administration of general anaesthesia for a simple piles post-operative check-up is totally unwarranted and in the present case that wrong choice had proved to be fatal.”

After 10 extensions, ‘temporary’ officials finally shown door

CHENNAI: Nearly 40 deputy, under secretaries and section officers, who were appointed on temporary basis and received 10 extensions, have finally been removed.

“The mandate of the recently constituted staff rationalisation committee is to evaluate the staff structure so as to identify the non-essential posts in various categories to reduce the expenditure,” a government dated September 5 said. It ended services of 40 officials from Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

These officials received a salary of Rs15,000 to Rs40,000 per month. The state government has directed TNPSC to engage daily wage persons to fill up the vacancies.

TNPSC — state government’s recruiting agency — in August 2013 appointed 190 officials on a temporary basis to carry out pre and post examination works relating to massive recruitment and counselling to posts of Group-IV services examination.

Though they were appointed only for three months, they were goven extension for another three months in December 2013, six months in March 2014 and in September 2014. Of the 190 staff, 115 were again given multiple extensions between March 2015 and August 2018.

Against this backdrop, TNPSC on July 31 had requested the state government to sanction further continuance of the said 115 posts for another year. State's Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department examined this proposal and accorded sanction for further continuance to only 75 posts.

“It is evident that the existing staff pattern has not been properly utilised,” S Swarna, secretary to the government, said in the order .

Relationship insecurity linked to spending too much time on social media, says research

Being insecure about one’s close relationships is associated with using social media platforms in problematic ways, according to a new research. The study was based on attachment theory, which describes how people form relationships with others. People can be secure or insecure in their attachments to others, and insecure individuals can be either anxious or avoidant. The study found that attachment anxiety was associated with using Facebook to compare oneself to others, create a false impression of oneself, over-share personal information about oneself, and using the site at the expense of other activities. The researchers also found that the association between attachment insecurity and these maladaptive behaviours was stronger among those with low self-esteem and high psychological distress.

“It is important to stress that the research does not suggest that there is something damaging about Facebook or other social media services, but rather, some people network online in ways that could be considered maladaptive, exacerbating distress and vulnerability. We would hope that as a result of this research, people will become more mindful regarding how they engage with social media platforms, perhaps monitoring how they feel before and after using the site, and if necessary, adapting their use accordingly,” said researcher Sally Flynn.

Soon, passengers flying out of Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) can get past all security check points by simply looking into a camera! According to official sources, this face recognition facility, touted to be the first in India, will be extended to all domestic flyers by the end of 2018.

Here’s how it’ll work: Following a one-time registration process at the entry gate, the details of an individual will get captured on hi-tech cameras that will act as a unique signature for the passenger thereafter.

“So, the next time the person is at the airport, he/she just needs to look into the camera instead of displaying the boarding pass and identity card. The system will automatically ascertain if he/she is a bonafide passenger and allow entry into the facility,” said an official.

Similarly, during security check too, the passenger will no longer need to display the boarding pass. The process will be carried out by these cameras that will scan the person’s face to establish his/her credentials.

“As the boarding pass will also be integrated into this system, it will automatically verify the information with the Airline DCS (departure control system) and map the passenger’s face to ticket upon successful verification,” said a GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) spokesperson, adding the process – which is fully secure and non-intrusive --will not only help passengers save time but also make boarding formalities simpler.

The technology, developed by a leading global player, has already been tested for staff entry and will be thrown open for live trials on passengers, once GHIAL obtains the necessary clearances from regulatory authorities.

“Facial recognition is an extension to the existing modular E-Boarding framework developed in house and needs little additional infrastructure and process changes… In the coming days, we will be rolling out a pilot project to enable completely paperless travel through our airport, using the biometric identification of a passenger to replace both the ticket as well as the boarding card,” the spokesperson added.

The Madras high court has ordered notice to the Medical Council of India (MCI) on a PIL seeking to declare restrictions imposed by the MCI fixing 40 years as upper age limit for appointment to the post of senior resident/assistant professor in government-run medical institutions as unconstitutional, ultra vires, discriminatory and illegal.

A division bench of Justice S Manikumar and Justice Subramonium Prasad then adjourned the hearing to September 19 for further hearing.

According to petitioners, including P Suresh Kumar, a government doctor based in Sivagangai, the MCI brought an amendment to the Medical Institutions Regulations, 1998, with effect from June 8, 2017, prescribing 40 years as upper age limit for appointment as senior resident in medical institutions.

“As per special rules of Tamil Nadu Medical Services, the candidate for the post of senior resident/assistant professor must be an MBBS degree holder and must have done PG work in a teaching institution for a period of not less than two years or must possess a super specialty degree. Therefore, a doctor with MBBS qualification in government service after completing PG diploma becomes a senior resident/assistant professor,” the petitioners said.

Pointing out that at the time of them joining PG medical courses there was no such age limit for the posts, the petitioners submitted that they were selected for the PG courses through a selection process to recruit senior resident/ assistant professor. But while completing the course “we would have crossed 40 years making us ineligible for the appointment”.

They further submitted that the Tamil Nadu government has forwarded a proposal to the Centre on November 27, 2017, to drop the age limit as it would affect the entire medical administration and career of government doctors who are encouraged to serve in rural and remote areas.

The state health department was forced to cancel a business-cum-pleasure conference it had planned for its senior administrative staff, after the striking government doctors threatened to lay siege to the beachside luxury resort on ECR where the three-day event was to be held.

The department had set aside ₹40 lakh for the programme, which had been scheduled a day ahead of the striking doctors’ plan to boycott all hospital work, barring emergencies.

While the joint action committee of the government doctors’ association said they would boycott work on September 21 demanding pay revision, the government planned the conference for nearly 400 state and district level health administrators from September 18. After at least three associations told TOI that they would hold protests at the conference venue, the government went on the back foot.

“We will cancel the programme. A letter will be sent out soon,” said a senior official.

According to the official communications accessed by TOI, the cost of the conference, to be organised by the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project, was to be shared by four different wings of the department. The health systems project, including chief minister’s and health minister’s scheme and 108-Tamil Nadu Urban Health Care project, would together pay ₹10 lakh, while the remaining ₹30 lakh would be equally shared by Tamil Nadu State Health Society-National Health Mission, TN Aids Control Society, and TN Medical Services Corporation Limited. The list of invitees included senior government doctors, including joint directors, deputy directors and deans of all government medical colleges and hospitals.

“They were planning an expensive bonding trip when the entire workforce is disgruntled. Why couldn’t they have held the conference in a government hospital or a TTDC resort,” said JAC-GDA chairman Dr K Senthil. Another doctor added, “They cancelled it now because they did not have a reply. We gave them notice in November and eight weeks ago, we once again reminded them about a day-long strike,” said Dr Senthil.

“We got information about this a day after they gave us a letter threatening us with action,” he said.

On Friday, a two-page reply by health secretary J Radhakrishnan said it would be illegal on the part of government doctors to hold a strike as per the Tamil Nadu Government Servants Conduct Rules 1973, and violation would invoke disciplinary action.

“Apart from disciplinary action, an event leading to death of a patient or worsened morbidity is also liable for criminal prosecution,” the letter said, quoting Madras high court orders.

The letter also said complaints would be filed with the state medical council and the Medical Council of India. Incidentally, Dr Senthil is also the president of the state medical council.

Time to wake up from slumber, HC tells govt officials

It is time officials in Tamil Nadu woke up from their ‘Kumbhakarna-type’ slumber and comply with court directions, said the Madras high court, blasting government officials for their ‘callous’ attitude in making administrative decisions, leading to longdrawn litigations and waste of judicial time.

A division bench of Justice K K Sasidharan and Justice R Subramanian made the observations on a batch of appeals challenging a government order issued by the school education department on January 12, 2015 and a consequential order of the director of public libraries dated January 13, 2015 pertaining to district library officers.

Allowing the appeals, the bench said: “Once it is found that the appellants appointment was pursuant to direct recruitment, they cannot be reverted to a lower rank…”

Expressing dissatisfaction over the way the issue was handled by the state, the bench said, “A policy decision to rationalise the service of local library authorities and to bring them into one single unit was taken by the government as early as December 11, 1989. But the adhoc rules were framed only in 2006 after a lapse of nearly 17 years.”

This exhibits the callous indifference shown by officials of the state, the bench said. In 1995, the state administrative tribunal had specifically observed that administrative decisions which involve change in service rules should be followed up by necessary changes by way of amendment without any delay, the bench pointed out.

“Despite the direction, the government has taken 17 years for framing rules, because of which the appellants had been running from pillar to post from 2007. This failure of the state to do its duty has led to this long-drawn litigation resulting in waste of court hours on trivial issue of promotions and seniority,” the court said.

Only Class XII marks to count for college admissions in state

In a major policy reversal, the state government has announced that Class XI board examination marks will not be considered for college admissions. As was the practice till last year, only Class XII marks will be taken into account, school education minister K A Sengottaiyan announced on Saturday.

The rethink comes after record number of state board students either failed or absented themselves in their first-ever Class XI board exams this year.

In 2017, Tamil Nadu government introduced board exam for Class XI to end the practice of private schools skipping the portions of Class XI and training students only for Class XII exams, scores in which were considered for college admissions.

The minister had then said that equal weightage would be given to Class XI and XII board exams and a consolidated marksheet for 1,200 marks would be issued to students after successful completion of the exams. Alongside the reform, the government had also introduced a new syllabus for Class XI state board students.

Max marks cut from 1200 to 600

Exactly a year later, the government has retracted its stance. Explaining the rationale behind the move, Sengottaiyan said, “We received many complaints through CM’s special grievance cell stating students were stressed to write three board exams at a stretch.” So, from this year, Class XI scores will not be considered for college admissions, he added.

However, Class XI students will continue to write their board exams. Marksheets will be issued for 600 marks to Class XII students, but only if they cleared all the subjects under the two-year higher secondary course.

If a student failed in one or more subjects, a mark statement, mentioning the scores secured by them in the other subjects, would be issued, said a government order issued by Pradeep Yadav, school education secretary, in connection with the announcement.

While many experts, teacher associations and parents have condemned this decision effected in the middle of an academic year, others said this might remove the burden off students’ shoulders. P Fredrick Reymend, a government school teacher, said there was no logic now that private schools were going to be serious about Class XI, which formed the base for higher education.

Educationist Prince Gajendra Babu said, “By revising the syllabus and conducting the board exams the very same year, they have put last year’s students under unnecessary pressure. Parents, teachers and experts were not consulted before taking this decision or earlier ones, including merger of language papers and changing the nomenclature of districtlevel elementary offices.” But school education expert S S Rajagopalan said, “Holding public exams at the end of Class XI is against students. Admissions for Class XI go on up to September, leaving little time for students to complete the syllabus.”

பாரம்பரிய கட்டிடங்கள், பரபரப்பான வணிகப் பகுதிகள் மட்டுமல்ல பிராட்வே உள்ள பல இடங்கள் தென்னிந்திய சினிமா துறைக்கு படப்பிடிப்புத் தளங்களாக 1960, 1970 களில் பயன்பாட்டில் எழுந்திருக்கின்றன.

அவ்வாறு சென்று கொண்டிருக்கும்போதுதான் அங்கு வந்திருந்த வாடிக்கையாளர்களை சம்மணமிட்டு வேடிக்கை பார்த்துக் கொண்டிருந்த வேலுவைப் பார்க்க நேர்ந்தது.

வியாபாரத்தை ஆரம்பித்த ஒரு மணி நேரத்துக்குள் விற்றுத் தீர்ந்துள்ள அவர் கொண்டு வந்த புறாக்கள். சிறுது நேரம் அவரிடம் பேச்சு கொடுத்தேன்.

முதலில் பேசத் தயங்கியவர்... பின்னர் சுற்றியிருந்த அவரது சக நண்பர்களும், அருகிலிருந்த டீ கடைக்காரர்கள் உற்சாகப்படுத்த தயக்கத்துடனே தொடங்கினார்,

"வேலு என்னோட பெயர். திருவொற்றியூரில் வசித்து வருகிறேன். கடந்த மூப்பது வருடமாக இங்கு வியாபாரத்துக்காக வந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறேன். நமது பாடப் புத்தகத்தில் படிச்சிருப்பீங்களே, பண்ட மாற்றுமுறையைப் பற்றி. அதுதான் இங்கு கடந்த 50 வருடங்களுக்கு மேலாக இங்கு நடந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறது. இந்தச் சந்தைக்கு வாங்குகிறவர்களும் வருவார்கள்... விற்கிறவர்களும் வருவார்கள்.

நான் பல வருடங்களாக புறாக்களில் பல வகைகளை இங்கு கொண்டு வந்து விற்று வருகிறேன். மாடப் புறா, சங்கிலி புறா, கிங், காக்டோ, மெக்கோ போன்ற பல வகைகள் இங்கு விற்கப்படுகின்றன. ஞாயிற்றுக்கிழமை மட்டும்தான் இந்தத் சந்தை நடைபெறும். 200 ரூபாயிலிருந்து 7,000 ரூபாய் வரை இங்கு புறாக்கள் விற்கப்படுகின்றன.



வேலு

யார் வேண்டுமானாலும் தங்களிடம் ஆரோக்கியமாக உள்ள செல்லப் பிராணிகளை இங்கு கொண்டு வந்து விற்கலாம். பச்சைக்கிளி போன்ற பறவைகளை மட்டும் இங்கு விற்க அரசு தடை விதித்துள்ளது.

முன்பெல்லாம் இங்கு வரும் மக்களின் எண்ணிக்கை குறைவாக இருக்கும். தற்போது சமூக வலைதளங்கள் மற்றும் ஊடகங்களின் மூலம் நிறைய பேருக்குத் தெரிந்துள்ளது. வெவ்வேறு இடங்களிருந்து இந்தச் சந்தையைப் பார்வையிட வருகிறவர்களும் உண்டு.

முன்பெல்லாம் 2 ஆயிரம் பேர் வந்தார்கள் என்றால் தற்போது இதன் எண்ணிக்கை இரண்டு மடங்காகி இருக்கிறது.

அதிகாலை 6 மணியிலிருந்து மக்கள் கூட்டம் வரத் தொடங்கும். நண்பகல் வரை எங்கள் சந்தை நடைபெறும். எந்தவித சண்டைகள் சச்சரவுகள் இல்லாமல் எங்களது வணிகத்தை இங்கு ஓட்டிக் கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். போதிய வருமானமும் கிடைக்கிறது" என்ற வேலு எந்தவித மனக்குறையும் இல்லாமல் மகிழ்ச்சியாக அங்கிருந்து புறப்பட்டார்.

செல்லப் பிராணிகள் வியாபாரத்தில் ஈடுபட்டவர்கள் மட்டுமல்லாது, தகவல் தொழில் நுட்பத்தில் பணிபுரியும் இளைஞர்கள் பலரும் இங்கு செல்லப் பிராணிகள் விற்கும் தொழிலை துணைத் தொழிலாக செய்து வருகின்றனர்.

பிராட்வேயில் ஞாயிறு பொழுதுகளில் எங்கேனும் சிக்கிக் கொண்டீர்கள் என்றால் சற்று பொடி நடையாய் இந்தச் சந்தையை சுற்றிப் பாருங்கள் நிச்சயம் ஏமாற்றாது...

மாதவிடாய் கறை அவமானமா?

காலையில் எழுந்ததும் சிறுநீர் கழிக்கவோ மலம் கழிக்கவோ நீங்கள் கழிவறை நோக்கி விரைகிறீர்கள் என்றால், உடல் கழிவுகளை அகற்றச்சொல்லி மூளை கட்டளையிடுகிறது என்று அர்த்தம். அதன் பின்பு கழிவறைக்குப் போகிறோம். ஆனால், எந்தக் கட்டளையையும் மூளை இடாமலே வெளியேறுவதுதான் மாதவிடாய். மாதத்தில் இந்த சில நாட்களில் மாதவிடாய் வரும் என்பது முன்கூட்டியே தெரிந்திருந்தாலும் எந்த நேரத்தில் வரும் என்பது யாருக்குமே தெரியாது. சிலருக்கெல்லாம் சொல்லிவைத்தாற்போல் மாதம்தோறும் சரியான நாட்களிலும் வந்துவிடுவதில்லை. ஒரு வாரம் முன்பின்கூட ஆகலாம்.

முன்பெல்லாம் பெண்கள் பெரும்பாலும் வீட்டைவிட்டுச் செல்லாதவர்களாக இருந்தார்கள். எந்த நேரத்துக்கும் துணியை வைத்துச் சமாளித்துக்கொண்டிருந்தார்கள். ஆனால், இப்போது எப்போதும் வீட்டைத் தாண்டி வெளியில் பயணிக்கும் சூழல் பெரும்பாலான பெண்களுக்கு வாய்த்திருக்கிறது. எப்போதும் கைப்பையில் நாப்கின் வைத்திருக்க வேண்டியிருக்கிறது. நமக்கு இல்லாவிட்டாலும், நம் சகதோழி காதில் வந்து ரகசியமாய் சொல்லிவிட்டுப் போகும்போது கொடுக்கவாவது எப்போதும் இருப்பொன்று தேவையாக இருக்கிறது.

சரி... இதெல்லாம் முன்னேற்பாடுகள்தான். நாப்கின் இல்லாத சூழல் ஒன்றில் தன்னையும் அறியாமல் ஆடையில் குருதி படிந்துவிட்டால், அதென்ன உலக மகா குற்றமா என்ன? சில நேரங்களில் நாப்கினே வைத்தாலும் அதிகப்படியான உதிரப்போக்கால் கறை படிவதென்பது சாதாரண நிகழ்வுதான். ஆனால், நீல நிற மையை நாப்கினில் கொட்டிக் காட்டும் விளம்பரங்களெல்லாம் கறைபடிவதை அவமானத்தின் அடையாளமாகத்தானே சித்தரித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கின்றன! 'செக்... செக்.. செக்' என பகிரங்கமாகவே சின்னத்திரையில் வரும் நாப்கின் விளம்பரத்தில் வகுப்பில் இருக்கும் பெண் பிள்ளைகள் தங்களின் பின்புறத்தைப் பார்த்துக்கொள்கிறார்கள். இவர்கள் தயாரிப்பு நாப்கினை வாங்கினால் ஆடையின் பின்புறத்தை அடிக்கடி சரிபார்க்க வேண்டாமாம். இதில் எட்டு மணி நேரத்துக்கு மேலாகத் தாக்குப்பிடிக்குமென்று இன்னொரு தகவலையும் பரப்புகிறார்கள். ஒரு உயிர் திரவம் சிறிய நாப்கினில் 8 மணி நேரம் தேங்கிக் கிடந்தால் பெண்ணுறுப்பு எவ்வளவு பாதிக்கப்படும் என்பதை யோசிக்கிறோமா?

நாப்கின் இருந்தால் குதிரையில் சவாரி செய்யலாம். ஓட்டப்பந்தயத்தில் ஓடலாம்.. வெற்றிக் கோப்பையோடு வீடு திரும்பலாம் என்கிற போலிக் கற்பிதங்களைத்தான் கையில் பிடித்துக்கொண்டு ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறோம். விளம்பரங்கள் மாதவிடாயைப் பெண்ணுக்கான பெரும்பாவமாய் சித்தரித்துக்கொண்டிருக்கும் அதே வேளையில், பள்ளிகள் என்ன செய்துகொண்டிருக்கின்றன? ‘‘ம்மா.. எதுக்கும் இன்னிக்கு ரெண்டு நாப்கின் வச்சிட்டுப் போயிடுறேன். மிஸ் அடிக்கடி பாத்ரூம் போகவிட மாட்டேங்குறாங்க. பாய்ஸ் வேற பேக் ரோவுல இருக்காங்க’’ என்று சொல்லும் மகளிடம் எவ்வளவு புரிதலை ஏற்படுத்தினாலும் ‘‘மிஸ்... பாய்ஸ்’’ என இரண்டே வார்த்தைகளில் தயக்கம் காட்டிவிட்டு நழுவிக்கொள்கிறாள். ஏழாம் வகுப்பிலேயே பெரும்பாலான பெண் பிள்ளைகள் வயதுக்கு வந்துவிடுகிறார்கள். அப்படியிருக்க இதுவரை மாதவிடாய் விழிப்புணர்வை இருபாலருக்கும் சொல்லித்தருவதைப் பள்ளிகள் கவனத்தில் எடுத்துக்கொள்வதில்லை.

நீங்கள் சந்திக்கும் சகோதரியோ.. தோழியோ உங்கள் முன்னால் கறையோடோ இல்லை மெதுவாகவோ நடந்துசென்றால் நீங்கள் உடனடியாக ஓடிச்சென்று நாப்கின் வேண்டுமா என்று கேட்கிறீர்களோ இல்லையோ... பின்னால் இருந்து கிசுகிசுக்காமல் இருந்தாலே போதும். எங்களுக்குப் பயமெல்லாம் கறை மீது அல்ல... கரை சேர முடியாமல் பெண்களுக்கென புதிதுபுதிகாகக் கட்டவிழ்ந்துகொண்டிருக்கும் இத்தகைய காரணங்கள்தான்!

ஆனால் நேபாளத்தைச் சேர்ந்த பிரக்ரிதி மாலா அத்தகைய விமர்சனங்களைக் கண்டிப்பாக எதிர்கொண்டிருக்க மாட்டார். ஆம், அவரின் கையெழுத்து உலகிலேயே அழகான கையெழுத்தாகத் தேர்வு செய்யப்பட்டிருக்கிறது. மைக்ரோசாஃப்ட் வோர்டைக் காட்டிலும் அழகான கையெழுத்தைப் பெற்றிருக்கிறார் பிரக்ரிதி.

9-ம் வகுப்பு படிக்கும் பிரக்ரிதி மாலாவின் கையெழுத்து கணிப்பொறியில் இருந்து பிரிண்ட் எடுத்தது போல அத்தனை சரியாக, நேராக இருக்கிறது. எழுத்துகளுக்கு இடையேயான இடைவெளியும் சீராக உள்ளது.

அழகான, தெளிவான எழுத்துகள்தான் படிப்பவரின் மனநிலையைத் தீர்மானிக்கின்றன என்றும் சொல்லப்படுவதுண்டு.

முன்னாள் பிரதமர் ராஜீவ் கொலை வழக்கில் 27 ஆண்டுகளாகச் சிறைத்தண்டனை அனுபவித்துவரும் பேரறிவாளன் உள்ளிட்ட எழுவரையும் விடுதலை செய்வதற்கு தமிழக அமைச்சரவை பரிந்துரை செய்திருப்பது வரவேற்கத்தக்க முடிவு. முதல்வர் பழனிசாமியின் ஆட்சிக் காலகட்டத்தில், தமிழக மக்களின் உணர்வுக்கு மதிப்பளிக்கும்வகையில் எடுக்கப்பட்டிருக்கும் வரலாற்று முடிவு இது என்று சொல்லலாம்.

ராஜீவ் காந்தி 1991 மே 21 அன்று ஸ்ரீபெரும்புதூரில் படுகொலை செய்யப்பட்ட சம்பவம் தமிழக அரசியல் வரலாற்றில் ஒரு ரத்தக்கறையாகவே படிந்துவிட்டது. பொதுவாக வன்முறைக்கு எதிரான பாதையிலேயே பயணித்து வந்திருக்கும் நவீன தமிழக வரலாற்றில், துயரமான ஒரு கரும்புள்ளி என்றே இந்த அரசியல் படுகொலையைச் சொல்ல வேண்டும். ஈழப் போராட்டம், விடுதலைப் புலிகள் தொடர்பான தமிழக மக்களின் பார்வையிலேயே மாற்றம் உண்டானது. பின்னாளில், ஈழப் போராட்டத்தின் மிக மோசமான தோல்விக்கும்கூட இதுவும் ஒரு காரணமாகிவிட்டது.

ராஜீவ் படுகொலையின் பிரதான குற்றவாளிகள் என்று இந்திய அரசால் குற்றம்சாட்டப்பட்டவர்கள் எவரும் நீதிமன்றத்தின் முன் நிறுத்தப்படாத நிலையில், அந்தக் கொலையின் முழுப் பின்னணியும்கூட பொதுச் சமூகத்தின் முன் கொண்டுவரப்படாமலேயே போனது இன்னொரு துயரம். இந்த வழக்கில் பிரதான குற்றவாளிகளைப் பிடிக்க முடியாத சூழலில், பிடிபட்டவர்களைக் கடும் குற்றவாளிகளாக்கும் போக்கு, இந்த வழக்கின் தொடக்கத்திலிருந்தே வெளிப்பட்டது. முன்னாள் பிரதமர் கொலை இந்திய அரசுக்கு விடுக்கப்பட்ட சவாலாகவும் பார்க்கப்பட்ட நிலையில், மரண தண்டனை விதிக்கப்பட்டு, பின்பு அது ஆயுள் தண்டனையாகக் குறைக்கப்பட்டாலும் விடுதலைக்கான சாத்தியம் என்பது எழுவருக்கும் மறுக்கப்பட்டே வந்தது. ராஜீவ் கொலை வழக்கின் அடுத்தடுத்த நிலைக் குற்றவாளிகள் 14 ஆண்டுகளுக்குள் விடுவிக்கப்பட்ட நிலையில், 26 ஆண்டுகள் கடந்தும் குற்றவாளிகள் சிறையிலேயே வாட வேண்டியிருப்பது இங்கு ஒப்பிடப்பட வேண்டியதாகிறது.

தமிழக கல்வி திட்டத்தில் பல்வேறு மாற்றங்களை அரசு செய்து வருகிறது. இதுவரை எஸ்.எஸ்.எல்.சி. மற்றும் பிளஸ்-2 வகுப்பு மாணவர்களுக்கு மட்டுமே பொதுத்தேர்வு என்று இருந்தது. இந்த நிலையில் எஸ்.எஸ்.எல்.சி. முடித்து பிளஸ்-1 வகுப்பு செல்லும் மாணவர்களுக்கு அதற்கான பாடத்தை நடத்தாமல், அப்போதே பிளஸ்-2 வகுப்புக்கான பாடத்தை பெரும்பாலான பள்ளிகள் நடத்த தொடங்கிவிடுவதாக குற்றச்சாட்டுகள் எழுந்தன.

கடந்த ஆண்டு நீட் தேர்வுக்கு விலக்கு கிடைக்குமா? இல்லையா? என்ற குழப்பம் நிலவி வந்ததால் குறைந்த அளவு மாணவர்களே சேர்ந்தனர். இதனால் இதில் 1,475 மாணவர்களே தேர்ச்சி பெற்றனர். அதில் 27 மாணவர்கள் எம்.பி.பி.எஸ் படிப்பில் சேர்ந்து உள்ளனர்.

ஆந்திராவை சேர்ந்தவர் சுதீஷ் என்பவரின் மனைவி கீதா(வயது 22). இவர் நேற்று முன்தினம் ஆந்திராவில் இருந்து சென்னைக்கு தமிழ்நாடு எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் மூலம் புறப்பட்டார். ரெயில் ஓங்கோல் நிலையத்தில் நேற்று அதிகாலை நின்றபோது, தூங்கிக்கொண்டிருந்த கீதாவின் கழுத்தில் கிடந்த சங்கிலியை மர்ம ஆசாமி ஒருவர் ஜன்னல் வழியாக பறிக்க முயற்சித்தார்.

அதே தமிழ்நாடு எக்ஸ்பிரஸ் ரெயிலில் நேற்று அதிகாலை நடந்த இன்னொரு சம்பவத்தில் தஞ்சாவூரை சேர்ந்த மைதிலி(35) என்பவரிடம் 7 பவுன் தங்க சங்கிலி மர்ம நபரால் பறிக்கப்பட்டது. இந்த சம்பவமும் ஓங்கோலில் ரெயில் நிலையத்திலேயே அரங்கேறியது. மேற்கண்ட இரு சம்பவங்கள் குறித்து சென்டிரல் ரெயில்வே போலீசார் வழக்குப்பதிவு செய்தனர். பின்னர் இந்த வழக்குகள் ஓங்கோல் ரெயில்வே போலீசாருக்கு மாற்றப்பட்டது.

சமீபகாலமாக ஓங்கோல் மற்றும் அதனையொட்டிய பகுதிகளில் ரெயில் கொள்ளைகள் அதிகளவில் நடந்து வருகின்றன. குறிப்பிட்ட சிலர் தான் இந்த தொடர் திருட்டில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகிறார்கள் என்று தெரியவந்துள்ளது. கடந்த 10 நாட்களில் சென்னை வந்த 2 பயணிகளிடம் பல லட்சம் மதிப்பிலான நகை மற்றும் பணங்களை இந்த பகுதியில் மர்ம நபர்கள் திருடியுள்ளனர். இந்த நிலையில் 3-வது முறையாக இந்த சம்பவம் நிகழ்ந்துள்ளதால் ரெயில் பயணிகள் மிகுந்த அச்சத்தில் உள்ளனர். மேலும் எந்த வித அசம்பாவித சம்பவங்கள் நடக்கும் முன்னர் அந்த ரெயில் திருட்டில் ஈடுபடும் மர்ம ஆசாமிகளை பிடித்து தண்டிக்க வேண்டும் என்று பயணிகள் கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளனர்.

ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலை வழக்கில் சிறையில் உள்ள முருகன், நளினி, பேரறிவாளன் உள்பட 7 பேரையும் விடுதலை செய்ய தமிழக அரசு பரிந்துரை செய்துள்ளது. கவர்னர் பன்வாரிலால் புரோகித் இந்த 7 பேரையும் விடுவிக்க நடவடிக்கை எடுக்க வேண்டும் எனவும் தமிழக அரசு கோரிக்கை விடுத்துள்ளது.

இந்த நிலையில், ராஜீவ் கொலையின்போது பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் ஈடுபட்டிருந்த போலீஸ் இன்ஸ்பெக்டர் ராஜகுரு குண்டுவெடிப்பில் கொல்லப்பட்டார். இவரது மனைவி பாலசரஸ்வதி சென்னை பல்லாவரத்தில் வசித்துவருகிறார். ராஜீவ் கொலை வழக்கில் குற்றம்சாட்டப்பட்டவர் களை விடுவிக்கக்கூடாது என அவர் எதிர்ப்பு தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.

இதுதொடர்பாக ‘தினத்தந்தி’ நிருபருக்கு அவர் அளித்த பேட்டியில் கூறியிருப்பதாவது:-

என்னுடைய கணவர் ராஜகுரு பல்லாவரம் போலீஸ் இன்ஸ்பெக்டராக பணியில் இருந்தபோது ஸ்ரீபெரும்புதூரில் ராஜீவ்காந்தி தேர்தல் பிரசார கூட்டத்திற்கு பாதுகாப்பு பணிக்கு சென்றார். அங்கு விடுதலை புலிகள் வெடிகுண்டு தாக்குதல் நடத்தியதில் ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொல்லப்பட்டார். அப்போது அங்கு பாதுகாப்பு பணியில் இருந்த எனது கணவர் ராஜகுருவும் கொல்லப்பட்டார்.

எனது கணவர் உடலை பொட்டலமாக எங்களிடம் கொடுத்தார்கள். என் வாழ்க்கையில் எல்லாமுமாக இருந்த என் கணவரை இழந்து தவித்தேன். என் 2 பிள்ளைகள் தந்தையின் உடலை கூட பார்க்கவில்லை. அந்த அளவிற்கு பொட்டலமாக என் கணவர் உடலை கொடுத்தார்கள். என் குழந்தைகள் அழுது கதறினர். அதன்பிறகு என் குடும்பம் எத்தகைய கஷ்டத்தை அனுபவித்தது என்பது சொல்லிமாளாது.

என் குடும்பத்தின் நிலை யாருக்கும் வரக்கூடாது. அந்த அளவிற்கு நாங்கள் என் கணவரை இழந்த பிறகு கஷ்டப்பட்டோம். நாங்களும் தமிழர்கள் தான். எந்த தலைவரும் எங்கள் வீட்டிற்கு வந்து கேட்டதில்லை. என்னைப்போல தான் அந்த வெடிகுண்டு தாக்குதலில் கொல்லப்பட்ட அத்தனை குடும்பங்களும் வேதனைகளை அனுபவித்தது.

இன்றைக்கு ராஜீவ் கொலை கைதிகளை விடுதலை செய்யவேண்டும் என அனைத்து தலைவர்களும் பேசி வருகிறார்கள். இந்த வழக்கில் குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்ட அத்தனை பேரும் அப்பாவிகளா. ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலையின்போது அங்கு செயல்பட்ட விடுதலை புலிகள் ஒற்றைகண் சிவராசன், தாணு ஆகியோருடன் இப்போது சிறையில் உள்ளவர்கள் அந்த பொதுக்கூட்ட இடத்தில் ஒன்றாக இருந்த புகைப்படங்கள் அனைத்தும் என்னிடம் உள்ளது. அவர்கள் ராஜீவ் கொலையாளிகளுக்கு துணையாக இருந்தார்கள் என்பது அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும்.

இப்போது பல ஆண்டுகள் சிறையில் இருந்துவிட்டார்கள், அவர்களை விடுதலை செய்யவேண்டும் என கொலை வழக்கில் குற்றம்சாட்டப்பட்டவர்கள் அனைவரும் அப்பாவிகள் என்பதுபோல பேசிவருவது இந்த படுகொலையில் உயிரை இழந்தவர்களின் குடும்பங்களில் கடும் வேதனையை ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளது. நீண்ட நாட்கள் சிறையில் இருந்தால் கொலை குற்றவாளிகளை விடுதலை செய்யலாம் என்றால், யார் வேண்டுமானாலும் கொலை செய்ய தயங்க மாட்டார்கள். இந்த முடிவை அரசு மறுபரிசீலனை செய்யவேண்டும். இந்த கொலை வழக்கில் சிறையில் இருப்பவர்களை விடுதலை செய்யக்கூடாது.

இதை எதிர்த்து மத்திய அரசு சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டில் வழக்கு தொடர்ந்தது. அந்த வழக்கை விசாரித்த சுப்ரீம் கோர்ட்டு, 7 பேரையும் விடுதலை செய்வது தொடர்பாக தமிழக அரசு முடிவு எடுத்து கவர்னரின் பரிசீலனைக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்கலாம் என்று கடந்த 6-ந் தேதி அறிவுறுத்தியது.

இதைத்தொடர்ந்து 9-ந் தேதி கூடிய தமிழக அமைச்சரவை, ராஜீவ் காந்தி கொலை கைதிகள் 7 பேரையும் விடுதலை செய்ய தீர்மானம் நிறைவேற்றி, அதை கவர்னர் பன்வாரிலால் புரோகித்துக்கு அனுப்பி வைத்தது. மேலும் 7 பேர் தொடர்பான கோப்புகளையும் கவர்னருக்கு அனுப்பியது.

தமிழக அரசின் இந்த பரிந்துரை குறித்து கருத்து கேட்டு, மத்திய உள்துறை அமைச்சகத்துக்கு கவர்னர் அறிக்கை அனுப்பி இருப்பதாக கடந்த வியாழக்கிழமை தகவல் வெளியானது.

இந்த நிலையில் இதுகுறித்து கவர்னர் மாளிகையின் சார்பில் நேற்று செய்திக்குறிப்பு ஒன்று வெளியிடப்பட்டது.

அதில் கூறப்பட்டு இருப்பதாவது:-

இந்த பணியில் தேவைப்படும் போது ஆலோசனைகள் பெறப்படும். இந்த விஷயத்தில் அரசியல் சாசனத்தின் அடிப்படையில் நியாயமான முடிவு எடுக்கப்படும்.

Chennai based craniomaxillofacial surgeon, Prof. Dr. S. M. Balaji being honoured with the Pakistan Dental Association’s Humanitarian Award.

Chennai: In a rare gesture in these times of India-Pakistan tension, Chennai based craniomaxillofacial surgeon, Prof. Dr. S. M. Balaji has been honoured with the Pakistan Dental Association's Humanitarian Award. Years ago, in an international meeting organised by Asia Pacific Dental Federation, the PDA, with a membership of over 1,000 dentists, had invited Prof. Balaji to lecture in Pakistan. Since 2010, PDA has been regularly referring patients with complex craniofacial developmental abnormalities to the doctor in Chennai.

The children are usually from low socio-economic category and the association would pool in resources for arranging the treatment and travel to Chennai. Prof. Balaji has been providing free surgical treatment to such needy patients from overseas. Over the last several years, scores of poor, young Pakistani children have immensely benefited from this endeavour.

In recognition of the humanitarian service rendered, the PDA leadership felicitated Prof. Balaji in a special award ceremony held along the sidelines of the 40th Asia Pacific Dental Federation 2018 meeting in Manila. The PDA President, Dr. Mahmood Shah, Vice President, Dr. Asif Arain and Secretary General Dr. Nasir Ali Khan presented Prof. Balaji with the award.

Prof. Balaji is the first Indian to receive such an honour from the Pakistan Dental Association. He is an expert in the field of craniomaxillofacial surgeon through which he has changed the lives of many patients who have come in with problems like hare lip and other facial deformities. In fact, the award winning short film Smile Pinki portrays well the kind of service rendered to such people in terms of their gaining self-confidence by surgeons like Prof. Balaji.

CHENNAI: It’s not just encroachers. Even a town panchayat in southern suburbs of the city seems to have shrunk a lake in its limits so that it can dig five wells right in the lakebed and pump water. The Madambakkam lake, one of biggest lakes in the south of the city, is said to be spread across 250 acres. But apparently the map of the lake submitted by the Madambakkam town panchayat to the Public Works Department changed the shape of the lake and shrunk it to a mere 80 acres.

The locals, who have obtained a copy of the documents through an RTI application, say the boundaries of the lake were intentionally redrawn so that the panchayat can dig wells on the lakebed and draw water to supply for residents of Chitlapakkam town panchayat residents.

The wells are being dug by the panchayat under a `3-crore project to extract around 18 lakh litres of water every day from five wells and supply it through an underground pipeline system to Chitlapakkam and Madambakkam. One of the main conditions laid down by the Public Works Department was that wells should be at least 25 metres away from the lake. The residents, pointing the contradictions of the maps of the lake in revenue records and the one submitted by the panchayat, say the boundaries were redrawn so that the spot in the lakebed where the wells are dug appears to be 25 metres away from the lake.

Since it was announced, the project has met with strong local opposition. “The Madambakkam town panchayat has clearly fudged the lake sketch to ensure the project is given the green light, “ said Lt Colonel CR Sundar, a resident who has filed a PIL in the Madras High Court pointing out the irregularities.

“This project will completely drain ground water in Madambakkam and we’ll have to start buying water after our borewells go dry,” said G Radhakrishnan, a resident of Yeshwanth Nagar, alleging that political pressure is driving the project.A top former Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board official said the project will have disastrous long-term effects on the ground water table. “In a matter of months the ground water levels will plummet and borewells have to be deepened. Soon Madambakkam will be as dry as Chitlapakkam,” he said, explaining how Madambakkam lake depends on only rain water for replenishment and cannot be used to fuel a big water supply scheme.

The Madambakkam town panchayat has denied any irregularities in seeking permission for the project and the sketch provided. “We have conducted a proper survey and have marked the wells as per the norms mandated,” said S Loganathan, executive officer.When Express contacted the PWD, they assured steps would be taken if irregularities were found in construction of wells and assured steps to maintain groundwater levels in Madambakkam.

“Seven wells were requested for the project but we have given permission for only five,” said a senior PWD official.Chitlapakkam, which is around 8 km away, has a lake of its own but it has been contaminated by decades of irresponsible disposal of garbage and sewage. Police intimidation
Initially, Madambakkam residents managed to stop panchayat from digging wells by blocking access to the lake. However, officials armed with around 150 cops began operations.Protestors were allegedly manhandled and threatened with dire consequences for pointing out irregularities and halting digging operations. NEW DELHI: Embattled liquor tycoon Vijay Mallya said Wednesday that he met the finance minister before leaving India and told him he's going to London, a sensational claim denied by Arun Jaitley as "factually false."

Immediately after Jaitley's sharp rebuttal, Mallya appeared to tone down the seriousness of his comments, saying it was "not fair" to create a controversy over this issue as it was not a "formal meeting" and he only "happened to meet" the Finance Minister.

The 62-year-old former Kingfisher Airline boss, who appeared before the Westminster Magistrates' Court in the case regarding his extradition to India to face the trial on fraud and money laundering charges, was asked by reporters if he was "tipped off" to leave the country.

"I left because I had a scheduled meeting in Geneva. I met the finance minister before I left, repeated my offer to settle with the banks. That is the truth," he responded.

Jaitley, who was the Finance Minister in 2016 when Mallya left India, denied the liquor baron's claim.

"Since 2014, I have never given him any appointment to meet me and the question of his having met me does not arise," the Finance Minister said in a Facebook post.

"The statement is factually false in as much as it does not reflect truth," he asserted.

Jaitley said Mallya "misused" the privilege of being a Rajya Sabha MP to catch him in corridors of Parliament on one occasion while he was walking out of the House to go to his room.

He said Mallya while walking alongside, "uttered a sentence that 'I am making an offer of settlement'.

Having being fully briefed about his 'bluff offers', without allowing him to proceed with the conversation, I curtly told him 'there was no point talking to me and he must make offers to his bankers.'"

"I did not even receive the papers he was holding in his hand," Jaitley said.

Mallya was elected as Rajya Sabha MP in 2002 and 2010 both times as an independent candidate.

In London, responding to further questions by reporters following Finance Minister Jaitley's statement dismissing his claims, Mallya said, "I am afraid this is a controversy created by my friends in media."

"I was standing during the lunch break and I happen to answer a question on the circumstances under which I flew out. I said I happened to meet Mr Jaitley in Parliament and told him that I am leaving for London. I did not have any formal meeting scheduled with him," he said.

Mallya said he met Jaitley "often enough in the Parliament, in the House, in the Central Hall."

On being asked if he was "tipped off" to flee the country, he added: "Absolutely not. I can confirm nobody tipped me off. There was no need to run. The allegations are media created allegations, unfortunately."

"It was a totaly innocent statement made by me that I told Jaitley that I was going to London," Mallya said at the end of his extradition case hearing at the court, when the judge fixed December 10 as the date for her verdict in the case.

Congress and other opposition parties latched onto Mallya's statement to question the government about the circumstances in which the defaulter businessmen fled the country.

Earlier, talking to reporters Mallya said the media should question the banks why they are not supporting him in his efforts to repay.

"I have said before that I am a political football. There is nothing that I can do about it. My conscience is clear and (I) put almost Rs 15,000 crore worth of assets on the table of the Karnataka High Court," he said.

"I am certainly a scapegoat, I feel like a scapegoat. Both political parties don't like me," he said, while having a cigarette during the lunch break during the hearing for his ongoing extradition case at Westminster Magistrates' Court in London.

He sarcastically described the video of Barrack 12 at Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail, which has been prepared for him, as "very impressive".

"I have no comment, you are hearing everything in court," he added on further questions by the reporters.

Mallya has been on bail on an extradition warrant since his arrest in April last year and is fighting extradition to India on charges of fraud and money laundering amounting to around Rs 9,000 crores.

During today's hearing, Mallya's defence team branded the evidence presented by the Indian government in the case as "utterly unfounded".

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), arguing on behalf of the Indian government, countered this with arguments that Mallya had intended "from the outset" never to repay the loans he sought for his struggling airline and misrepresented its profitability.

At the previous hearing in July, Judge Arbuthnot had asked the Indian authorities to submit a "step by step video" of Barrack 12 of Arthur Road Jail for "the avoidance of doubt" over the availability of natural light in the cell where the businessman is expected to be detained pre-trial, during trial and in the event he is convicted by the Indian courts.

The extradition trial, which opened at the London court on December 4 last year, is aimed at laying out a prima facie case of fraud against Mallya.

It also seeks to prove there are no "bars to extradition" and that the tycoon is assured a fair trial in India over his now-defunct Kingfisher Airlines' alleged default of over Rs 9,000 crores in loans from a consortium of Indian banks.

Mallya's defence team has deposed a series of expert witnesses to claim he had no "fraudulent" intentions and that he is unlikely to get a fair trial in India.

கற்பூரவள்ளி இலையின் சாற்றை சிறிதளவு சர்க்கரை கலந்து கொடுத்தால், குழந்தைகளின்   கபம் கலந்த இருமல் நீங்கும். வறட்டு இருமலுக்கு திப்பிலியை வறுத்துப் பொடி செய்து, தேனில் குழைத்துக் கொடுத்தால் நல்ல பலன் கிடைக்கும். இதை அனைவரும் செய்யலாம்.

வெங்காயம் 150 கிராம், சர்க்கரை 150 கிராம் எடுத்து வெங்காயத்தைப் பொடிப் பொடியாக நறுக்கி தண்ணீர் விட்டு அரைத்துக்கொள்ளவும். பிறகு அதை மெல்லிய துணியில் வடிகட்டவும். இந்த வெங்காயச் சாற்றில் சர்க்கரையைச் சேர்த்து பாகுபதமாகக் காய்ச்சி இறக்கவும். இந்த வெங்காயப் பாகை ஒரு வேளைக்கு ஒரு தேக்கரண்டி உட்கொண்டால் எப்பேர்ப்பட்ட இருமலும் சரியாகும்.

தொடர்ச்சியான இருமல்:

இருமல் தொடர்ந்து ஏற்பட்டு தொல்ல அளிக்கும்போது, பத்து கிராம் சிற்றரத்தையை உடைத்து ஒரு சட்டியில் போட்டு ஒரு டம்ளர் நீர்விட்டு பாதியாகச் சுண்டுமளவு கஷாயமாக்கிக்கொண்டு அதில் இரண்டு தேக்கரண்டி அளவு எடுத்து, அத்துடன் ஒரு தேக்கரண்டி இஞ்சி சாற்றை கலந்து உள்ளுக்குக் கொடுத்து வந்தால் குணமாகும்.

சிற்றிருமல்:

நீங்கள் நன்றாகக் காய்ச்சிய பசும் பாலுடன் ஒரு சிட்டிகை மஞ்சள் தூளுடன் சிறிது மிளகுத்தூளையும் சேர்த்துக் கலக்கி அருந்த இருமல் தணியும்.

இரைப்பு இருமலுக்கு:

இஞ்சிச் சாறு, ஈர வெங்காயச் சாறு, எலுமிச்சம்பழச்சாறு இவைகளை சம அளவு எடுத்து வேளைக்கு ஒரு தேக்கரண்டி அளவு மூன்று நாட்கள் சாப்பிட்டு வந்தால் இரைப்பு இருமல் சாந்தியாகும். இருமல் அதிகமாயிருந்தால் ஒரு நாளைக்கு இரு வேளை சாப்பிடலாம்.

கோழை இருமல்:

நாய் துளசியைக் கொண்டு வந்து தினம் கொஞ்சம் சாப்பிட்டு வந்தால் கோழை இருமல் போன்ற குறைகளை அகற்றும். இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து சாப்பிட்டு வந்தால் உடல் நல்ல போஷாக்கு பெறும்.

வறட்டு இருமல்:

வறட்டு இருமல் ஏற்பட்டிருந்தால், ஆழாக்களவு பசும்பாலுடன் அரைத் தேக்கரண்டியளவு மிளகை உடைத்துப் போட்டுக் கொதி வரும் வரைக் கொதிக்க வைத்து, இறக்கி வடிகட்டி, சிறிதளவு பனங்கற்கண்டையும் சேர்த்துக் கலக்கிப் படுக்கப் போகுமுன் குடித்துவிட வேண்டும். இது போல மூன்று நாள் சாப்பிட்டால் போதும், வறட்டு இருமல் குணமாகும்.

உடல் சூட்டினால் இருமல்:

உடல் சூட்டினால் ஏற்படும் இருமலைத்தான் இந்த மருத்துவம் கண்டிக்கும். மிளகுத் தூளையும் பனை வெல்லத்தையும் சேர்த்துப் பிசைந்து வைத்துக்கொண்டு ஒரு சுண்டைக்காய் அளவு உள்ளுக்குச் சாப்பிட்டு வந்தால், இரண்டொரு நாட்களில் சூட்டு இருமல் சரியாகும்.

எந்த வகையான இருமலுக்கும்:

பொதுவாக எந்த வகையான இருமலையும் சீரகம் குணப்படுத்திவிடும். 10 கிராம் சீரகத்தைச் சுத்தம் பார்த்து அதை இலேசாக வறுத்து எடுத்து அம்மியில் வைத்துத் தூள் செய்து அது எந்த அளவு இருக்கிறதோ அந்த அளவு கற்கண்டைத் தூள் செய்து அத்துடன் கலந்து, ஒரு சீசாவில் வைத்துக்கொண்டு, காலை, மாலை அரை தேக்கரண்டியளவு சாப்பிட்டு வெந்நீர் குடிக்க ஐந்தே நாளில் இருமல் குணமாகும்.

கக்குவான் இருமலுக்கு:

கக்குவான் இருமலின்போது வெள்ளைப் பூண்டை உரித்து அதை நெய்யில் வதக்கி வைத்துக்கொண்டு சாதத்துடன் சுமார் இரண்டு கிராம் எடை வீதம் சேர்த்துக் கொடுத்து வந்தால் கக்குவான் இருமல் குணமாகும்.

ஜலதோஷம் காரணமாக இருமல்:

ஜலதோஷம் காரணமாக இருமல் ஏற்பட்டிருந்தால் ஒரு சுத்தமான சட்டியை அடுப்பில் வைத்து சட்டியைக் காயவிட்டு அதில் இரண்டு தேக்கரண்டியளவு மிளகைப் போட்டு நன்றாக வறுக்க வேண்டும். மிளகு வறுபட்டு சிவந்து வருகி, அதில் தீப்பொறி பறக்கும் சமயம் ஆழாக்குத் தண்ணீரை அதில் விட்டு மூடி நன்றாகக் கொதிக்க விட வேண்டும். கொதித்தபின் இறக்கி அதில் பாதியை மட்டும் ஒரு டம்ளரில் இறுத்துக்கொண்டு, அதில் தேவையான அளவு சர்க்கரைச் சேர்த்துக் காலையில் குடித்துவிட வேண்டும். மறுபகுதியை மிளகுடன் வைத்திருந்து மாலையில் குடித்துவிட வேண்டும். இருமல் குணமாகும்.
