‘Paediatric surgeons must get spl training’

Lucknow : Specialised training programmes for learning new techniques to correct congenital deformities in children are the need of the hour, said experts at a programme held on Paediatric Surgery Day at KGMU’s New OPD building on Friday.
Dr JD Rawat, chairman, KGMU's paediatric surgery department, emphasised that such programmes would reduce waiting times at premier institutions. He urged paediatric surgeons to stay updated with the latest techniques used in treating congenital diseases, particularly those related to urinary and kidney systems. He urged parents to seek immediate medical advice when symptoms of these conditions appear in children. Timely intervention can help in treatment of diseases like improper urine passage, underdeveloped testicles and kidney swelling. , which are common congenital issues. Faculty, paediatric surgery, Prof SN Kureel mentioned that advanced equipment such as laparoscopes, cystoscopes and endoscopes have made surgeries for such conditions safer for young patients.
He emphasised significance of timely treatment to ensure the best outcome for children suffering from these conditions. During the programme, toys and gifts were distributed to children receiving treatment in the department. The event was attended by Dr Archika Gupta, Dr Anand Pandey, Dr Sudhir Singh, Dr Nitin Pant, Dr Piyush Kumar, Dr Gurmeet Singh and Dr Rahul Kumar Rai. Residents and staff of the paediatric surgery department were also present.
