20 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பு இணையம் என்ற ஒன்று அறிமுகமானபோது மௌஸை மெல்ல அசைத்து ஒவ்வொரு லிங்கையும் கிளிக் செய்து பரவசமடைந்த அனுபவம் உங்களுக்கு இருக்கிறதா?

ஒடிஷா, ஆந்திரா, கர்நாடகா மற்றும் மஹாராஷ்டிரா ஆகிய மாநிலங்களில் இருந்து கோவாவிற்கு விற்பனைக்கு வரும் மீன்கள், பிணங்களை பாதுகாக்கப் பயன்படும் 'பார்மலின்' என்னும் ரசாயன திரவத்தால் பாதுகாக்கப்படுவதாக குற்றச்சாட்டு எழுந்தது.

அந்த சந்திப்பில் மீன் தடைக்கு முன்னர் விற்கப்பட்ட மீன்களின் நிலை குறித்து செய்தியாளர் ஒருவர் தொடர்ந்து பாரிக்கரிடம் கேள்வி கேட்டுக் கொண்டிருந்தார். இதனால் எரிச்சலடைந்த முதல்வர் அவரிடம், "நீங்கள் உண்ட மீன் பாதுகாப்பானதா என்று உங்கள் வயிற்றுக்குள் நுழைந்தா சோதிக்க முடியும் என்று எரிந்து விழுந்தார்.

தொடர்ந்து அவர் கூறியதாவது:

நாங்கள் அன்று மீன்கள் குறித்து சோதனை நடத்தினோம்.அதன் அறிக்கையினை உங்களுக்கு அளித்துள்ளோம். நீங்கள் யாராவது நிபுணரிடம் அது குறித்து கேட்கலாம். ஆனால் நீங்கள் உங்களுக்கு செய்திகளைத் தரக் கூடிய மக்களிடம் போகாதீர்கள்.

பாயிண்ட் டூ பாயிண்ட் வழித்தடங்களில் துவக்கப்பட்ட இந்த நடத்துநர் இல்லா பேருந்துகளால் பயண நேரம் எந்த வகையிலும் குறையவில்லை, ஆனால் கட்டணம் மட்டும் அதிகமாக உள்ளது என்கிறார்கள் பயணிகள்.

தமிழகத்தில் சுமார் 8000 தனியார் பேருந்துகள் இயக்கப்படுகின்றன.

ஒரே வழித்தடத்தில் இயக்கப்படும் நடத்துநர் இல்லா பேருந்துகளை விட, தனியார் பேருந்துகளில் கட்டணமும் குறைவு, பயண நேரமும் குறைவு என்பதே.

நாடெங்கிலும் 60 வயதுக்கு மேற்பட்ட ஆண் கைதிகள் மற்றும் 55 வயதுக்கு மேற்பட்ட பெண் மற்றும் திருநங்கை கைதிகள், தங்களது தண்டனைக் காலத்தில் பாதிக்கும் மேல் அனுபவித்திருக்கும் பட்சத்தில் அவர்களுக்கு பொதுமன்னிப்பு வழங்குவது என மத்திய அரசு முடிவு செய்துள்ளது.

கரும்புக்கான குறைந்தபட்ச விலையை (எஃப்ஆர்பி) குவிண்டாலுக்கு ரூ.20 உயர்த்த மத்திய அரசு முடிவு செய்துள்ளது. இதன் மூலம் கரும்பு விவசாயிகளுக்கு சர்க்கரை ஆலைகள் வழங்கும் குறைந்தபட்ச தொகை குவிண்டாலுக்கு ரூ.275-ஆக உயரும்.

பொருளாதார விவகாரங்களுக்கான மத்திய அமைச்சரவையின் கூட்டம் தில்லியில் புதன்கிழமை நடைபெற்றது. அதில், 2018 அக்டோபர் முதல் 2019 செப்டம்பர் வரையிலான சந்தை ஆண்டில் கரும்புக்கான குறைந்தபட்ச விலையை குவிண்டாலுக்கு ரூ.20 உயர்த்த முடிவு செய்யப்பட்டதாக மத்திய அரசு வட்டாரங்கள் தெரிவித்தன.

Former Director of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, G. Padmanaban, has been appointed Chancellor of the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) in Tiruvarur by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Mr. Padmanaban replaces V. Krishnamurthy, former Chairman of National Manufacturing Competitive Council (NMCC).

Hailing from Thanjavur district, Mr. Padmanaban had his schooling in Bengaluru and graduated from the Presidency College in Chennai. He completed Ph.D in biochemistry at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He was a recipient of Padma Bhushan in 2003 and Padma Shri in 1991.

Nageshwar Rao, who has served as Vice-Chancellor of various open universities, including the Indira Gandhi National Open University, is the nominee of Governor-Chancellor Banwarilal Purohit for the search committee tasked with choosing the Vice-Chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University.

Last week, M. Anandakrishnan, former Vice-Chancellor of the Anna University, was chosen as the nominee of the university’s senate for the search panel. A month ago, C. Thangamuthu, former Vice-Chancellor of the Bharathidasan University, was selected as the Syndicate’s choice.

‘File I-T returns on time or pay fine’

Office of the Chief Commissioner of Income Tax - Coimbatore has urged the Income Tax assessees to pay their I-T returns on or before July 31, 2018, failing which they will have to pay penalty.

In a release issued here, the Income Tax department has said that a section 234 F has been brought in the Finance Act which calls for payment of penalty for delayed filing of I-T returns.

Those with income less than Rs. 5 lakh and filing returns between August 1, 2018 to March 31, 2019 will have to pay a penalty of Rs. 1,000 and those whose income exceeds Rs. 5 lakh and filing returns between August 1, 2018 and December 31, 2018 will have to pay a fine of Rs. 5,000 and those filing the returns between January 1, 2019 to March 31, 2019 will have to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000.

Mandatory

Late filing fee is mandatory and thus automatic. The same has to be paid before filing a belated return.

They disappear from ex-judge’s house

A fit case for ‘Ripley’s Believe It Or Not’. With about a hundred case bundles having mysteriously disappeared from a Madras High Court judge’s residence, the court has now ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to get to the bottom of the matter.

The bundles went missing from the residence of former judge T. Mathivanan before he retired from service in May 2017.

Justice G. Jayachandran directed the central agency to investigate the issue and proceed against those found guilty. “This court is worried about the missing case records from the chartered High Court, which is also a court of record (a court whose proceedings are recorded and available as evidence of fact),” he said.

Wondering how case bundles sent to a judge’s residence did not return to the High Court Registry, and remained untraced, Mr. Justice Jayachandran said: “It is alarming to note that case bundles have disappeared from the radar like missing vessels in the Bermuda Triangle.”

The issue created a furore, with a number of lawyers taking it up with Chief Justice Indira Banerjee. One of those complaints stated that Mr. Mathivanan had allowed a petition on March 21, but a copy of the order was not delivered to the petitioner till the judge retired from service.

Subsequently, the High Court Registry informed the lawyer, G. Saravanan, that his entire case bundle was missing. However, curiously, the Information Centre on the court campus had issued him a printout of the case status information, wherein it was clearly mentioned that the case had been disposed of by Mr. Mathivanan on March 21.

The Chief Justice received similar complaints from many other lawyers who complained of bundles related to appeals, original petitions and revision cases going missing. All those cases were related to CBI investigations and all of them had been dealt with by Mr. Mathivanan during his tenure as a judge of the High Court.

Shocked over such complaints, Ms. Justice Banerjee ordered an in-house enquiry which revealed that about a hundred case bundles sent to the judge’s residence, before his retirement, for various purposes such as dictating and signing of the judicial orders, were not returned.

‘Why tag entry with menstruation?’

Tagging a woman’s right to enter the famous Sabarimala temple with her menstrual cycle is unreasonable, the Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench observed on Wednesday.

The Bench, led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, asked whether the exclusion of women aged between 10 and 50 from entering a temple because they are considered ‘impure’ amounts to the practice of untouchability, a social evil abolished by law.

The CJI said there is no concept of “private mandirs (temples).” Once a temple is opened, everybody can go and offer prayers. Nobody can be excluded. The Chief Justice noted that the Sabarimala temple drew funds from the Consolidated Fund, had people coming from all over the world and thus, qualified to be called a “public place of worship.”

A batch of petitions has challenged the prohibition on women of a certain age group from entering the Sabarimala temple.

How did students with zero or negative marks in physics, chemistry qualify in NEET? It’s not the fault of NEET

The National Eligibilitycum-Entrance Test (NEET) has brought in much needed transparency in medical college admissions. This has exposed how students with abysmal scores in the entrance examination have got admission for MBBS, mostly in private colleges. This situation has been created by the health ministry and the Medical Council of India (MCI) keeping the qualifying cutoff very low so that private colleges can fill their seats despite their exorbitant fees.

With the Supreme Court ruling that all colleges will have to go by NEET ranking for admissions in 2017, one would have imagined that merit-based admissions were finally in place. However, even students with ranks below 6 lakh got admission though there were only about 60,000 MBBS seats in 2017. How did that happen? The exorbitant fees charged by most private colleges forced lakhs of relatively meritorious students to forego seats allotted to them in these colleges, allowing poor performers with more money to get admission.

Many high scoring students cannot afford the exorbitant fees, but the health ministry and MCI, by keeping the cutoff at 50th and 40th percentile for general and reserved categories respectively, have ensured that the private colleges can go further and further down the merit list till they find students rich enough to fill their seats at the price demanded by them. Low cutoffs ensured that over six lakh students qualified for just 60,000 seats.

An analysis of NEET scores indicates that, other than ST, for all other categories even an 88th percentile cutoff would have been enough to comfortably fill the seats available. For the ST category, this would be true at about the 75th percentile. Several students with zero or negative marks in the physics and chemistry papers of NEET qualified for admission as the MCI has not fixed any minimum cutoff in individual subjects.

If zero or negative marks do not make a candidate ineligible for admission, why bother to test in the subject at all? Equally, how can a candidate scoring 15 out of 360, or 4%, in the NEET biology paper be eligible for MBBS? Several such students not only qualified, but also got admission in private colleges, paying average annual tuition fees of Rs 17 lakh. Thus the merit-based admission that NEET promised has been subverted by keeping the qualifying criteria fixed at ridiculously low levels despite the NEET results of 2013, 2016 and 2017 exposing the flaws in them.

If the cutoff was raised and minimum marks for individual subjects made mandatory, there would be fewer students qualifying and the private colleges demanding sky-high fees will not be able to fill their seats. They would be forced to charge more reasonable sums. TOI had analysed the annual tuition fees charged in 210 private colleges to show how 25 colleges averaged Rs 5 lakh or less and about half averaged under Rs 8 lakh. Why does the government allow some to charge up to Rs 25 lakh when they teach the same MCI-stipulated curriculum?

Govt bus driver’s daughter flies high with pilot licence

It was a moment of pride for V R Ravikumar, 58, a TNSTC bus driver, when his daughter Kavya made her first visit to the city on Wednesday after securing a commercial pilot licence (CPL). Their small rented house on Irulappasamy Koil Street at Palanganatham was crammed with visitors who came to appreciate the 22-year-old and her thrilled parents.

For Kavya, the dream of becoming a pilot happened after an incident with a toy plane, when she was barely five years old. “A family friend leaving for a foreign country asked me to pick my choice from a heap of toys belonging to their son. I picked a plane not knowing that it was damaged. My father got it repaired seeing which the aunt took it back and gave it back to her son,” she recalled. That was when she thought about flying a plane that everyone would see. “I did not know who to approach and where I could study until I saw an article in a newspaper when I was in Class X. It was about a flying school in Bengaluru,” she said. That was when her parents realized she was serious about her ambition.

She was all the more excited on coming to know that all she needed was a Class XII pass with 50% marks. Paying the huge fees was the next hurdle which the parents crossed by pledging jewellery and taking loans of ₹6 lakh. But that was just enough for theory classes and to complete fewer than 35 hours of flying at Government Flying Training School (GFTS), Bengaluru.

Due to insufficient funds, she had to wait close to the runway and watch others fly while she could not complete the mandatory 200 hours of flying to complete the course. Her attempt to apply for a scholarship for Scheduled Caste students in Tamil Nadu too did not yield results. At last, help came from the Centre which awarded her a scholarship of ₹20 lakh. “I am confident of handling even a flight with an engine failure,” she chuckled.

Two weeks ago she became the first student from GFTS Bengaluru to get a CPL in 21 years. “I am disproving claims that there is no life without obtaining a degree. I want to fly and teach. There are many options before me like flying chartered flights and for airlines,” she added. Kavya’s mother Kalpana, 46, a homemaker, said she used to regret not having a son but only two daughters. “I am sure a son would not have made me so proud,” she added.

SETC mulls flexi-fares; prices may drop by 25%

Fares on State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) buses may soon be reduced by 25% to 30% during the weekdays.

“The corporation has sent a proposal to the state transport department in connection with the flexifare model and we are expecting the necessary order to be issued soon,” a senior official from SETC told TOI on condition of anonymity.

At present, SETC charges ₹2 for every kilometre in their A/C buses. Once the flexi-fare model is in place, it will be reduced to 1.70 paise per km.

For example, once this system is introduced, travel to Madurai in an SETC bus from Chennai would cost ₹975 during weekends, festivals and ₹830 to ₹840 on weekdays when the occupancy ratio reduces significantly.

Similar fare slabs have been proposed for various categories of SETC buses.

Despite operating 1,180 buses on long routes, the corporation’s revenue has been crumbling in recent years. The bus fare hike in January was a major blow as it made travelling in an SETC bus more expensive than in a private bus on weekdays.

On the other hand, by reducing fares on weekdays private omni buses attract more passengers.

“Unlike private operators, we are not allowed to alter fares as per market demand. Though our buses run full on weekends and festivals because pricing by private buses, there is a dip during weekdays as the same fare is collected by SETC then,” the official said.

Under the proposed model, passengers would pay much less than what omni buses charge on weekdays and regular fares would be collected on weekends and festivals, he added.

In a bid to attract more IT professionals and college students, who frequently visit their native places over the weekend, the government-owned State Express Transport Corporation (SETC) has shifted the boarding point from Koyambedu.

Starting this week, select airconditioned sleeper buses plying to Madurai-Tirunelveli, Trichy-Karur and Theni-Bodi have been departing from Egmore after 8pm.

These buses ply along Adyar, SRP Tools on Old Mahabalipuram Road, Velachery and Tambaram before joining other buses at Perungulathur.

The buses have been scheduled 45-60 minutes after the last soughtafter Express trains to these cities depart from Egmore and Central railway stations in Chennai.

Previously, all SETC buses departed only from Koyambedu bus terminus, located at least 30km to 40km away from the IT corridor.

“On an average, it takes an hour and 30 minutes to reach Koyambedu and it turns worse during peak hours, weekends or holidays,” said K Dinesh, a software professional from Sholinganallur.

On the other hand, private buses halt at multiple points near our locality, he added.

A preliminary analysis by SETC suggested that aping this operation might help them attract more passengers.

“So, we have tweaked operations and our buses too will ply along areas where most of our target population reside. We hope this will help us to improve the daily footfall,” an SETC official said.

In the first phase, two new A/C sleeper buses and one A/C sleeper-cum-seater bus will be operated to Tirunelveli, Bodi and Karur respectively.

The fare collected for travel on these buses will be the same as the one collected from those boarding other SETC buses at Koyambedu.

Buses, with a seating capacity of 30, bound towards Bodi and Karur will ply via the IT corridor.

In addition to this, the Tirunelveli bus will take a detour via the Ashok Nagar-Kathipara Junction route so that more passengers can be accommodated, the official added.

Madras univ to turn affiliated colleges into support centres

After taking a decision on shutting down its distance education study centres in Chennai, outside Tamil Nadu and those abroad, University of Madras has approached its affiliated colleges to serve as ‘learning support centres’ from the current academic year as per the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) Open Distance Learning programme.

In the syndicate meeting held on June 28, the university approved 22 affiliated colleges which have given approval to become the university’s learning support centres. Out of these, a few colleges are situated in Chennai, while others are in Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts.

Currently, students who take the distance education courses are given study material by the university study centres or at the Institute of Distance Education (IDE) office in Chepauk. However, those taking the now courses will be able to attend classes at colleges near them.

“We are also planning to upload video lectures on our website which can be downloaded and played at these centres. Students can directly get their doubts cleared at these colleges,” said P Duraisamy. Wary of UGC’s regulations, the university has ensured that the franchise model does not come in.

The agreement with colleges is likely to be on a revenue sharing model with the university taking a 40% share for the lab-oriented courses and 60% for non-lab courses.

“We have written to the UGC and will soon get approval for running the courses in this manner,” Duraisamy said.

100 case files related to one judge go missing, HC orders CBI probe

In an embarrassing first for the 156-year-old Madras high court, a CBI probe has been ordered after a former judge of the court, T Mathivanan, failed to return at least 100 case bundles after his retirement in May 2017. In several cases where the judge ‘delivered’ an oral order in open court, actual orders were neither delivered nor made available to the litigants. The bundles too were not to be found in the high court office.

The case bundles disappeared like (shipping) vessels vanishing in the Bermuda Triangle, remarked Justice G Jayachandran on Wednesday, adding that since an inhouse investigation ordered by Chief Justice Indira Banerjee failed to bring back the bundles, the court was constrained to order a CBI investigation. “It is submitted across the Bar that there are several such cases where the former judge reserved the orders, or pronounced the orders in the open court, but the order copies had not seen the light of the day,” the judge said.

‘Court is worried about the missing of case records’

Justice Jayachandran said, “Inquiries with the registry reveal that about 100 bundles in which the judge had reserved orders are missing and the Chief Justice has ordered the registrar (vigilance) to make inquiries and trace the bundles missing from the residence of Justice T Mathivanan, since retired.”

“It is alarming to note that case bundles, 100 in numbers, disappearing from the radar, like vessels going missing in Bermuda Triangle. Therefore, this court is constrained to direct the CBI to take up the information for investigation,” Justice Jayachandran said and directed joint director of CBI, Chennai zone, to take necessary action.

Pointing out that records have been reconstructed as per the direction of the chief justice, the bench said the court was worried about the missing of case records from the chartered high court which is also the ‘court of records’. “Reconstruction of the missing records may be the solution on the administrative side but the fact that 100 case bundles not returned from the residence of the retired judge cannot be ignored. It appears that despite inhouse investigation ordered by the chief justice, till date case records sent to the judge’s records have not been retrieved.”

“Today (July 18), in the cause list, two criminal appeals, six criminal original petitions and two criminal revision cases were listed under the caption ‘matters relating to reconstruction’, in all these cases CBI is the prosecuting agency.

The matter came to light after counsel for one of the 100 aggrieved petitioner said his ‘criminal original petition came up for admission on March 21, 2017 and Justice Mathivanan pronounced an order allowing the petition, in the open court. However, the petitioner was not able to get the order copy despite payment of necessary charges. Counsel also submitted that he had given a letter to the registrar (judicial), on September 26, 2017 informing that the judge who had passed the order demitted office in May 2017. However, till date he was not able to get the order copy. The status of this case is shown as disposed of on March 21, 2017 by Justice Mathivanan, he pointed out.

I-T seizes contractor’s ₹4cr from junkyard under Gemini flyover

The continuing income tax searches on Chennaibased SPK and Co, in which ₹180 crore in cash and 107kg gold have been seized, have exposed a nexus between some state highways officials and contractors not merely in amassing unaccounted wealth, but also in safekeeping the money.

The I-T investigation wing, which was following the trail of money from contractor Nagarajan Seyyadurai’s premises, seized ₹4 crore hidden at a junkyard of the highways department under the Gemini flyover on Tuesday night. The shop-like structure from where the money was seized is located close to the highways department office on Anna Salai.

Seyyadurai’s firms have been handling several state highways projects including the ₹200-crore project to widen Vandalur-Walajabad Road, and maintenance of several roads in Ramanathapuram, Krishnagiri and Virudhunagar districts for close to ₹2,000 crore.

His business associate in one of the firms is a close relative of a senior AIADMK leader.

This is the third time that income tax officials are searching a state government office in Tamil Nadu in recent years. During the demonetisation phase, I-T officials had searched then chief secretary Rama Mohana Rao’s office at the state secretariat in December 2016. A week ago, I-T officials searched Tamil Nadu civil supplies corporation managing director M Sudha Devi’s office as they were pursuing the nexus between corporation officials and civil supplies contractor Christy Group, owned by T S Kumaraswamy.

The sleuths on Tuesday recovered a few crores of rupees allegedly belonging to Seyyadurai from a house in Mylapore. With this, the total seizure of cash in the ongoing searches on SPK and Co has touched ₹180 crore. I-T officials said they got ₹34 crore from a house in Mylapore. About 107kg of gold was also seized till Wednesday. This is among the biggest seizures of cash in I-T searches in the country, said a senior official in the I-T investigation wing.

“Wehaveseized some more jewellery, but are yet to assess its weight and value,” said the official. The previous highest seizure of cash in the state was ₹170 crore, from sand contractor Sekhar Reddy’s premises in December 2016.

“Nagarajan was expecting I-T searches ever since we knocked the doors of Christy Group a week ago. Thinking that keeping cash and gold at home would be dicey, he had moved it to a few safe havens. Cash was stacked into the boots of some cars too. Since we were keeping track of every movement, we could seize much of the money and gold in the first few hours of the search itself,” said the official.

The search teams had carried a few currency counting machines, and as the volume of the seized cash grew, more machines had to be brought in from State Bank of India after taking special permission from the bank headquarters, the official said.

Capacity constraints seem to be limiting the number of departures from Chennai airport during morning peak hours. The airport has the least number of peak hour departures compared to airports in other metros.

Chennai handles 48 departures between 5am and 9am every day while Bengaluru handles 68, Hyderabad 60, Mumbai 93, and Delhi 150. Kolkata handles the same number as Chennai. The airport handles an equal number of arrivals. The majority of the flights are domestic ones.

Though the numbers are lower than other major airports, Chennai struggles with congestion during morning peak hours because of high number of departures slotted back to back and is not able to handle more planes because of absence of space in the terminals, good taxiways, parking stands near terminal buildings and baggage handling space. Airlines prefer morning departures on domestic routes because several passengers prefer to leave on a morning flight and reach their destinations on time for business meetings and return the same day. However, the airport is not able to offer new slots. This has encouraged airlines to introduce more red-eye flights, most of which are concentrated between 3.30am and 5am.

AAI is now trying to encourage airlines to scatter departures because there are time slots when there is hardly any aircraft movement. There is a plan to charge a congestion fee on airlines. Peak hours for Chennai are between 5am and 9am, of which the maximum departures happen between 5am and 7am. There are also a number of flights at 10am, 2.30pm, 5pm and then 9pm. “The number of flights is low from 10am to 2pm. A few of the flights can be operated at this time instead of crowding all the departures early in the morning,” said a senior AAI official. “We do not have runway congestion as the runway can handle more planes. If there is a need, the second runway can also be used,” he said. The lack of apron space and absence of a rapid exit taxiway limit the number of flights that can be handled.

SC on Sabarimala: Women have right to enter the shrine

Questioning the legality of the ban on the entry of women in the age of 10 to 50 years to the Lord Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala in Kerala, the Supreme Court on Wednesday said there was no concept of private temples and there could be no discrimination on basis of gender, sex and menstrual age.

The SC said women have a fundamental right to access places of worship and the decision of the Travancore Devaswom Board to restrict entry needs to be re-examined, signalling that it might look to strike another blow in favour of women’s rights by getting a religious institution to amend its rules.

Right to worship was a constitutional right and women’s right to enter a temple was not dependent on any law, a five-judge constitution bench of CJI Dipak Misra and Justices Rohinton F Nariman, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra held.

Giving a boost to the battle of women’s rights activists who are fighting for temple entry, the bench said all people were equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right to profess, practise and propagate religion.

The CJI said, “If a man can go then a woman can also go. Both male and female can be denied access on the ground of health, morality and public order. What applies to the male is also applicable to female. Discrimination on the ground of gender is absolutely against the constitutional mandate. Public place is different from private place but there is no concept of a private temple. Once it is a temple, then everyone can go.”

Senior advocate Indira Jaising, appearing for NGO ‘Right to Bleed’, said the healthy biological process of menstruation is being used in the name of religion to discriminate against women and contended that a woman of menstrual age could not be treated as “polluted and untouchable”. She said the practice in Sabarimala temple of denying entry to women and girls aged 10 to 50 years led to social stigma and shame, and a modern society could not continue with “menstrual discrimination” when the Constitution mandated right to equality and health of women to achieve gender justice.

“The classification is itself illegal and unconstitutional. It fails the test of constitutional morality. It is discrimination on the ground of sex that cannot be allowed at religious places. It has not been a custom from time immemorial. Even if it is a custom, it has to be overruled,” Jaising said.

Justices Nariman and Chandrachud, however, said there was no need to invoke Article 17 (abolition of unaccountability) to examine the validity of the practice as Article 25 (right to profess, practice and propagate religion) is broad enough to allow women of all ages to enter the temple.

“Every woman is also a creation of god; if you do not believe in god, then of nature. Then why should there be discrimination on the basis of gender in employment or at places of worship?” Justice Chandrachud asked.

Justice Nariman said the classification barring women of 10-50 age group seemed unconstitutional “on the face of it” as a person could be in a stage of menstruation below 10 years or above 50 too. “On that ground itself it would be violative as it leaves out other persons who are similarly situated but can be allowed entry into the temple,” he said.

Senior advocate Raju Ramachandran, who is assisting the court as amicus curiae, said the restriction had the effect of invading the privacy of a woman. A female pilgrim making a pilgrimage to the temple was making an involuntary disclosure about her age and menstrual status. But the court said it would not go into the privacy aspect.

அவசரத்தில் பயணம் செய்பவர்கள், `பேருந்து உரிமம் பெற்றதா, அவர்களுக்கு மாற்றுப் பேருந்து உண்டா' என்பதைப் பார்க்க நேரமிருப்பதில்லை. அதிக காசை கொடுத்துவிட்டு இரவு நிம்மதியாகத் தூங்கலாம் என அத்தனை பேரும் தங்கள் உயிர்களை அடமானம் வைக்கிறார்கள்.

`தனியார் பேருந்தைப் பிடித்தால் போகவேண்டிய இடத்துக்கு நேரத்துக்குப் போகமுடியும்' என்பதால்தான் கட்டணம் அதிகமாக இருந்தாலும் தனியார் பேருந்துகளை பலரும் தேர்ந்தெடுக்கிறார்கள். பந்தயத்தில் ஓடும் குதிரைகள் போல ஓடிக்கொண்டிருக்கும் மக்கள் தங்கள் பயணங்களை ஓட்டுநர்கள் மீதும், அவசர நேரத்தில் சிக்கும் பேருந்துகளின் மீதும் நம்பிக்கை வைத்தே செல்கின்றனர். ஆனால், பல நேரங்களில் அவசரகதியில் நாம் தேர்வு செய்யும் பேருந்துகள் சொதப்பிய அனுபவம் நம்மில் பலருக்கும் இருக்கும். கடந்த ஞாயிறு அன்று காசைக் கொட்டிக்கொடுத்து தனியார் பேருந்து ஒன்றில் மதுரையிலிருந்து சென்னைப் பயணம் செய்ய முற்பட்ட 60 பேர் திக்குத்தெரியாத பொட்டல் காட்டில் நிற்கும்நிலை ஏற்பட்டது. ஏ.சி. காற்று வரும் இடத்திலிருந்து புகை வந்ததால் பேருந்தில் பயணித்த நான்கு பேர் மயக்கம்போட்டு விழுந்துள்ளனர்.

இதுகுறித்து பேருந்தில் பயணம் செய்த சென்னையைச் சேர்ந்த சுபாஷ் என்பவர் நடந்த சம்பவத்தை விளக்கிக்கூறினார்:-     

``காமராஜரின் பிறந்தநாள் விழாவுக்காக எங்கள் வழக்கறிஞர் குழுவுடன் மதுரை சென்றிருந்தோம். விழா முடிந்து மதுரை மாட்டுத்தாவணி பேருந்து நிறுத்தத்துக்கு வந்தபோது, `சென்னை போகணுமா?' என்று கேள்வியுடன் ஏஜென்ட்டுகள் எங்களை சுற்றி வளைத்தனர். `எந்தப் பேருந்து சீக்கிரம் கிளம்பும்?' என்று கேட்டதற்கு, `ஸ்ரீரங்கா டிராவல்ஸ்' என்கிற ஒரு பேருந்தில் ஏற்றிவிட்டார்கள். ஆளொன்றுக்கு 650/- ரூபாய் என்றுகூறி எங்கள் மூன்று பேருக்கு ரூபாய் 1950/- வாங்கினார்கள். பயணச் சீட்டுக்கு பதில் ஒரு துண்டுச்சீட்டில் எழுதிக் கொடுத்தார்கள். மாலை 5:30 மணிக்குப் பேருந்தில் ஏறியபோது `15 நிமிஷத்துல பஸ் எடுத்துருவோம்' என்று கூறினார்கள். ஆனால், முழுவதும் பயணிகளை நிரப்பிவிட்டு இரவு 7 மணிக்குதான் பேருந்தை எடுத்தார்கள். 

பேருந்தை எடுத்தும் ஏ.சி போடவில்லை. ஜன்னல்களையும் மூடிவிட்டார்கள். `ஏ.சி ஓடவில்லை' என்று ஓட்டுநரிடம் புகார் செய்யச் சென்றோம். அவர் `ஏ.சி போடுகிறேன்' என்றார். சொல்லிவிட்டு சீட்டில் வந்து உட்காருவதற்குள் ஏ.சி. நின்றுவிட்டது. மறுபடியும் கேட்கச்சென்றபோது, ரேடியேட்டரிலிருந்து `சூடான தண்ணீர்' கொப்பளித்து பேருந்தின் உட்புறமாகப் பீறிட்டு அடித்தது. ஏ.சி. காற்று வரும் வழியாகப் பயணிகள் உட்கார்ந்திருந்த இடங்களில் புகை சூழ்ந்தது. பேருந்தை உடனே ஓரங்கட்டும்படி கத்தினோம். இன்னும் சற்று நேரம் விட்டிருந்தால் நிச்சயம் பேருந்து தீப்பிடித்திருக்கும். உள்ளே சூழ்ந்த புகையினால் சிறுவர்கள் உட்பட 4 பேர் மயங்கி விழுந்தார்கள். அவர்களை வெளியே தூக்கி வந்து, காற்றோட்டம் கிடைத்தவுடன் மயங்கியவர்கள் விழித்தனர். மிகவும் சிரமத்துக்கு உள்ளாகி மாற்றுப் பேருந்தை கொண்டுவரும்படி ஓட்டுநரிடம் முறையிட்டோம். `எங்களிடம் வேறு பேருந்தே இல்லை' என்று ஓட்டுநர் கூறியதும் அதிர்ச்சியடைந்தோம். ஓட்டுநரிடம் வாக்குவாதம் அதிகரிக்க, அங்கு பிரச்னை ஆகிவிட்டது. டிராவல்ஸ் உரிமையாளரை தொடர்புகொண்டு மாற்றுப் பேருந்து ஏற்பாடு செய்து தரக் கேட்டோம் அல்லது `எங்கள் பணத்தைத் திருப்பிக்கொடுங்கள் வேறு பேருந்து பார்த்துக்கொள்கிறோம்' என்றோம். ஆனால் அவரோ `இருப்பது ஒரு பேருந்துதான். வேறு பேருந்தெல்லாம் இல்லை. பேருந்தை சரிசெய்த பிறகு அதிலேயே பயணம் செய்யுங்கள். இதற்கு நாங்கள் என்ன செய்யமுடியும். பணத்தை நிச்சயம் திருப்பித்தர முடியாது' என்று எகத்தாளமாகப் பேசினார்.

`பொறுப்பில்லாமல் பேசுகிறீர்களே' என்றதற்கு, `எங்களைக் கேட்டா ஏறினீர்கள், உங்களை ஏற்றிவிட்ட ஏஜென்டிடம் கேளுங்கள். உங்களால் முடிந்ததைப் பார்த்துக்கொள்ளுங்கள்' என்று ஆணவமாகப் பேசி இணைப்பைத் துண்டித்துவிட்டார். பிறகு அவரை தொடர்புகொண்ட முயன்றபோது அவர் பதிலளிக்கவில்லை. அப்போதுதான் கவனித்தோம் பேருந்தின் பின்புறம் `ஸ்ரீ எஸ்.ஆர்.எம் டிராவல்ஸ்' என்று எழுதியிருந்தது. பேருந்தின் முன்புறம் `ஸ்ரீ ரங்கா டிராவல்ஸ்' என்றும், பயணச்சீட்டில் `ஸ்ரீ ராம் டிராவல்ஸ்' என்றும் இருந்தது. பேருந்தில் எங்களுடன் பெண்கள், குழந்தைகள், முதியவர்கள் உட்பட 60 பேர் இருந்தோம். சுற்றி கும்மிருட்டாகவும், வெறிச்சோடியும் இருந்ததால் அனைவரும் அச்சத்தில் நின்றிருந்தனர். பேருந்தில் மாற்று ஓட்டுநரும் இல்லை, ஓட்டுநர் உதவியாளரும் இல்லை.

நெடுஞ்சாலை காவல்துறையைத் தொடர்புகொண்டோம். 45 நிமிடங்கள் கழித்து அவர்கள் வந்தார்கள். அவர்களிடம் நடந்ததைக் கூறினோம். `மெக்கானிக் சரிசெய்த பின் அதே பேருந்தில் செல்லுங்கள்' என்று அவர்கள் கூறினார்கள். ஓட்டுநர் தனது போனில் அழைத்த மெக்கானிக் ஒரு மணி நேரம் கழித்து வந்தார். அவர் பழுதை சரிசெய்துகொண்டிருந்த நேரத்தில், அந்த எல்லைக்குட்பட்ட காவல்துறையினர் வந்தார்கள். `மாற்றுப் பேருந்து இல்லாமல் உங்களுக்கு எப்படி உரிமம் அளிக்கப்பட்டது' என்று காவல்துறையினர் விசாரித்தனர். உரிமையாளரை போலீஸார் தொடர்புகொண்டபோது எந்தப் பதிலும் இல்லை. பேருந்தில் பயணம் செய்த ஒருவர் 6:30 மணிக்கு விமானம் பிடிக்கவேண்டியிருந்தது. மற்றுமொருவர் 6 மணிக்கு சென்னை சென்ட்ரலில் டெல்லிக்கு ரயில் பிடிக்கவேண்டியிருந்தது. இதனால் பழுதுபார்த்த பின்னர் அதே பேருந்தில் செல்ல வேறு வழியின்றி ஒப்புக்கொண்டோம்.

விராலிமலை வரை மெக்கானிக்கை பேருந்தில் செல்லுமாறு காவல்துறையினர் கேட்டுக்கொண்டனர். மெக்கானிக் பேருந்திலிருந்து இறங்கிய பிறகு, எதிர்பார்த்தது போலவே ஒன்றரை மணி நேரம் ஓடிய பேருந்து  திருச்சிக்கு மூன்று கிலோமீட்டருக்கு முன்பு மீண்டும் நின்றுவிட்டது. வேறொரு மெக்கானிக்கை வரச்சொல்லி பழுதைச் சரி செய்ய மேலும் ஒரு மணி நேரம் ஆனது. இரவு பெரும்பாலானோர் தூங்கவில்லை. வண்டியில் ஏற்றும்போது `இரவு 1:30 மணிக்கெல்லாம் சென்னை சென்றுவிடலாம்' என்று கூறினார்கள். ஆனால், கோயம்பேடு செல்ல காலை 6:30 ஆனது. சென்ட்ரலில் தொடர்வண்டி பிடிக்கவேண்டியவர் ரயிலை தவறவிட்டார். காலை 6:30 மணி விமானத்துக்கு, காலை 6:10 மணிக்குதான் விமான நிலையத்தில் இறக்கிவிடப்பட்டார். அனைவருமே கடும் மனஉளைச்சலுக்கு ஆளானார்கள். 

பேருந்தில் பயணித்த ஒவ்வொருவரிடமும் ஒவ்வொரு விலை வாங்கியிருக்கிறார்கள். நாங்கள் 650 ரூபாய் கொடுத்தோம். இன்னும் சிலர் 750 ரூபாய், 800 ரூபாய், பலரிடம் 1000 ரூபாய் வரை வாங்கியுள்ளனர். இதுபோன்ற மோசமான பயணத்தை நான் சந்தித்ததில்லை. முறையான உரிமம் பெறாத, இதுபோன்ற தகுதியற்ற டிராவல்ஸின் உரிமத்தை அதிகாரிகள் ரத்து செய்யவேண்டும்." என்றார் கொந்தளிப்புடன். இந்த விவகாரம் தொடர்பாகக் கருத்து கேட்பதற்கு பேருந்தின் உரிமையாளர் செல்வம் என்ற எண்ணுக்கு மீண்டும் மீண்டும் தொடர்புகொண்டபோது, ``தொடர்பு எல்லைக்கு அப்பால் உள்ளார்", என்றே வந்தது.

சகல பொழுதுபோக்குகளுக்கும் சாதனமாக வானொலி இருந்த காலம் உண்டு. ‘ரேடியோப் பெட்டி’ என அதற்கு நாமகரணம். அதை உயரத்தில் வைத்திருப்பதற்கென்று பிரத்யேகப் பலகை. அதன் மீது கம்பீரமாக அதன் இருப்பு. நம் சுகதுக்கங்களைப் பகிர்ந்துகொண்டும், ஆற்றிக்கொண்டும் அனுசரணையாக இருந்த அது, வீடுகளில் அயர்வைப் போக்கும் ஆசானாகவும் திகழ்ந்தது.

காலையில் ஒருவிதமான கையொப்ப இசை. அதற்குப் பிறகே நிகழ்ச்சிகள் களைகட்டத் தொடங்கும். ஆகாஷவாணியின் செய்திகள் மட்டுமே ஆதாரப்பூர்வமானவை. அவை வாசிக்கும் நேரங்களில் கடிகார முள் சரியான நேரத்திற்கு திருப்பி வைக்கப்படும். செய்திகள் வாசிப்பது என்று சற்று கம்பீரம் கலந்த சரோஜ் நாராயணசாமியின் குரலில் மோனலிசாவின் புன்னகையில் இருக்கிற அத்தனை ரசங்களைப்போல பாவங்கள் வெளிப்படும். எங்கு வானொலியில் செய்தி ஒலித்தாலும் அந்தப் பக்கம் செல்கிற அத்தனை வழிப்போக்கர்களும் ஒரு நிமிடம் நின்று முக்கியச் செய்திகள் இருக்கின்றனவா என்று கேட்டுவிட்டுச் செல்வார்கள். நாட்டின் தலைவர்கள் உடல்நலமில்லாமல் இருந்தால் ‘என்ன ஆயிற்று!’ எனக் கேட்பதற்கு செய்தி எப்போது வாசிப்பார்கள் என மக்கள் காத்திருப்பார்கள். ‘அண்ணா பேசுகிறார்’ என்று அறிவிக்கப்பட்டால் வானொலி இருக்கும் வீடு சாவடியாகும். தேர்தல் நேரத்தில் முடிவுகளைக் கேட்க கூட்டம் கூடும். வானொலி இருக்கும் வீடு அன்று வசதியானதாகக் கருதப்பட்டது.

பிறகு வந்தது இணைப்புத் தேவைப்படா டிரான்சிஸ்டர். எந்த இடத்திற்கும் எடுத்துச் செல்லலாம் என்பதே அதன் மகத்துவம். அளவு குறையக்குறைய மவுசு அதிகம். குடும்பக்கட்டுப்பாட்டை திக்கெங்கும் பரப்பியதில் அகில இந்திய வானொலிக்கு மிகப் பெரிய பங்கு. அதை ‘ஆகாஷ்வாணி’ எனச் சொல்வதா என்று தமிழகத்தில் கிளம்பியது மிகப் பெரிய சர்ச்சை. இந்தியா - பாகிஸ்தான் போர் 1971-ஆம் ஆண்டு நடந்தபோது தேசப்பற்றை ஊட்டியதில் வானொலிக்கு இருந்தது பெரும் பங்கு.

யாராவது முக்கியத் தலைகள் சாய்ந்தால் சோகமான இசை வானொலியில் கிளம்பும். அதுவே அன்று வெற்றிடத்திற்கு அடையாளம்.

நாங்கள் சிறுவராய் இருந்தபோது பிடித்த பாடல் வருகிறதா என வானொலியைத் திருப்பிப் பார்த்திருப்போம். காதைத் திருகினால் கான மழை பொழிவது வானொலி மட்டுமே. விநாடி வினா நிகழ்ச்சி வானொலியில் பிரபலம். இளைஞர்களை ஊக்குவிக்க இளைய பாரதம். கல்லூரிகளில் நடத்தப்படும் கலைநிகழ்ச்சிகளின் தொகுப்பாக மலரும். நம் பெயர் வானொலியில் வராதா என பொது வினாக்களுக்கு விடையெழுதிப் போடுவோம். வந்துவிட்டால் துள்ளிக் குதிப்போம்.

முத்துப்பந்தல் என்கிற ஒரு நிகழ்ச்சி. இன்றைய திரைப்படத் தொகுப்பு நிகழ்ச்சிகளுக்கு அதுவே முப்பாட்டன். கதைபோல ஒரு சம்பவத்தைச் சொல்லி அதன் இடையே சூழலுக்குத் தகுந்தவாறு திரைப்படப் பாடல் ஒன்றை ஒலிக்கச் செய்வார்கள். அதற்கு நான் உரையெழுதி அனுப்பினேன். பள்ளி முகவரி போட்டே அஞ்சல் செய்தேன். தேர்வானதாய் கடிதம் வந்தது. பள்ளி முழுவதும் அதே பேச்சு. தந்தையுடன் திருச்சிக்குப் பயணித்தேன். நிலையம் சென்றதும் பேரதிர்ச்சி. முத்துப்பந்தல் நிகழ்ச்சி மாணவர்களுக்கு அல்ல, பெரியவர்களுக்கே என அவர்கள் சொன்னதும் என் அத்தனை கப்பல்களும் கடலில் மூழ்கின. கையிலிருந்த எதுவும் நழுவி கீழே விழுந்து உடையவில்லை. காரணம், அந்தக் கடிதம் மட்டுமே கையிலிருந்தது. அன்று அப்பாவிற்கு அதிக செலவு வைத்து விட்டோமே என்று எதுவுமே சாப்பிடாமல், ‘பசியே இல்லை’ எனச் சமாளித்து வீடுவந்து சேர்ந்தேன். அப்படி என் முதல் முயற்சி முற்றிலும் தோல்வியானது. முத்துப்பந்தலில் முத்தெடுக்க முயன்று மூழ்கிப் போனேன்.

எங்களுக்கு திருச்சி வானொலியே காதுகளுக்குத் தாயகமாக இருந்தது. தேநீர்க் கடைகளிலும், உணவகங்களிலும் மக்களை ஈர்க்க ரேடியோப் பெட்டிகள் அன்று அத்தியாவசியம். ஊருக்கொரு ரேடியோ ரூம் உண்டு. அதை இயக்குவதற்கு ஆட்கள் இருந்தார்கள். கொழுக் மொழுக்கென்றிருக்கும் குழந்தை படம் போட்ட மர்ஃபி ரேடியோக்கள் அன்று பிரபலம். அந்தக் குழந்தையைப்போல ஆகவேண்டுமென்றே அத்தனை தாய்மார்களும் குழந்தையைக் காட்டி சோறு ஊட்டுவார்கள். குருவிக்காரர்கள் தோளில் வானொலிப்பெட்டியும் தொங்கும். அன்று தவணை முறையில் ரேடியோ விற்பனை உண்டு.

வானொலி என்றால் மறக்க முடியாதது வீடும் வயலும் நிகழ்ச்சி. மாலை வேளையில் அற்புதமான பாடலுடன் அது ஆரம்பமாகும். அதைக் கேட்காமல் உழவர்கள் தூங்க மாட்டார்கள். பயிர்சாகுபடியிலும், பயிர்க்காப்பு முறையிலும் வானொலிக்குப் பெரும் பங்கு இருந்தது. பயிர்களுக்கு பூச்சிமருந்து அடிக்கவும், குழந்தைகளுக்கு தடுப்பூசி போடவும் விழிப்புணர்வை ஏற்றியதில் வானொலிக்கு முதலிடம்.

திரையிசை அன்று குறைவு. வர்த்தக ஒலிபரப்பில் அது அவ்வப்போது எட்டிப்பார்க்கும். திரைத்துறையினர் வழங்கும் தேன்கிண்ணத்திற்காக மூடிய செவிகளும் திறந்துகொள்ளும். திருச்சி வானொலியின் சூரியகாந்தி என் சமவயதினருக்குப் பசுமையாய் நினைவிருக்கும். தென்னூர் கிருஷ்ணமூர்த்தி அத்தனை வேடங்களிலும் அபாரமாய் நடிப்பார். வானொலியில் நாடகங்களில் மின்னும் வீரம்மாள், மன்னை ஜெயராமன், பார்வதி ராமநாதன் ஆகி யோர் குடும்ப உறுப்பினர்களைப்போல ஆகிப்போனார்கள்.

வானொலியில் நாட்டுப்பற்றுப் பாடல்கள், இலக்கியப் பேருரைகள், கவியரங்கங்கள், பட்டிமன்றங்கள் என அறிவை அடர்த்தியாக்கும் பல நிகழ்வுகள். அவற்றைக் கேட்டுக் கேட்டு கேள்வி ஞானம் அனைவருக்கும் கூடியது. செந்தமிழிலில் பேசுகிற முறையை மாற்றி, பேச்சுத் தமிழில் ஐந்து நிமிடம் பேசி இன்று ஒரு தகவலின் மூலம் என்றும் இதயத்தில் நிலைத்திருக்கும் இடத்தைப் பிடித்தவர் தென்கச்சி சுவாமிநாதன். நகைச்சுவையே பேச்சாக ஜொலித்தவர் முசிறி வீராசாமி.

பொங்கல் திருவிழாவின்போது சென்னையில் அவசியம் நடக்கும் கிரிக்கெட் டெஸ்ட் மேட்ச். சேப்பாக்கம் பொங்கி வழியும். வானொலி நேர்முக வர்ணனை மூலைமுடுக்குகளிலெல்லாம் ஆட்டத்தைப் பார்க்கும் ஆனந்தத்தை அள்ளித் தரும். திடீரென முளைத்தது தமிழ் வர்ணனை. ராமமூர்த்தி, கூத்தபிரான் ஆகியோர் அழகு தமிழில் வர்ணிக்க, மணி என்பவர் சிறப்புக் கருத்து தெரிவிக்க தமிழ்மயமானது கிரிக்கெட்.

தமிழர்களின் திரைப்பட ஆர்வத்தைத் தீர்க்க வந்தது இலங்கை ஒலிபரப்பு கூட்டு ஸ்தாபனத்தின் வர்த்தக நிகழ்ச்சி. கே.எஸ். ராஜாவின் குரல் அனைவருக்கும் அத்துப்படி. நூற்று ஐம்பது பெயர்களை மளமளவெனப் படித்து நேயர்கள் அனைவரையும் திருப்திப்படுத்துவார். வானொலிக்கென்றே ரசிகர் பட்டாளம் இருந்தது. விரும்பிக் கேட்ட நேயர்களில் அவர்கள் பெயர் நாளொன்றுக்கு மூன்று முறை ஒலிக்கும். போடிநாயக்கனூர் நீலா, கொண்டைக்கவுண்டன்பாளையம் முத்துக்குமார், நிலக்கோட்டை பள்ளப்பட்டி ஆறுமுகம், ராஜதானிக்கோட்டை சித்தன் ஆகியோர் பெயர் அனைவருக்கும் தெரிந்தவை.

அரசு வானொலியில் நிகழ்ச்சி தயாரிப்பாளர் பதவி அவ்வளவு எளிதல்ல. அத்தனை கெடுபிடிகள். நிறையத் தெரிந்திருக்க வேண்டும். அகில இந்திய வானொலியில் பணியாற்றுவது பெரும் பேறு. உச்சரிப்பை அவர்கள் பேசுவதை வைத்து சரிபார்த்துக்கொள்ளலாம். இன்று தனியார் வானொலி நிலையங்களின் ஆதிக்கம். தொகுப்பாளர்கள் உச்சரிப்பில் ‘ல’, ‘ள’, ’ழ’ எதுவும் உருப்படியாக இல்லை. ‘பள்ளி’ மருவி ‘பல்லி’ ஆகிவிட்டது.

வானொலியை அனுபவிக்க தனிப்பெட்டி தேவையில்லை. கைபேசியே போதும். நிகழ்ச்சியாளர்கள் பேசிக்கொண்டேயிருப்பதால் அது சத்தங்களின் சாம்ராஜ்யமாகி விட்டது. தொலைக்காட்சி வந்த பிறகு புதிதாகப் பிறந்த குழந்தையை எல்லோரும் கவனிக்க பெரிய குழந்தை அழுவதைப்போல கேலிச்சித்திரம் ஒன்று வெளியானது. அந்த நிலையை பண்பலை மாற்றியமைத்தது. பணியாற்றிக்கொண்டே பாடல் கேட்க பண்பலையே பல இடங்களில் ஒலிக்கிறது. இரவு வாகனம் ஓட்டுபவர்களுக்கு அதுவே பேச்சுத் துணை. எங்கு போக்குவரத்து நெரிசல் என்பதுகூட உடனடியாக அறிவிக்கப்படும் மின்னல் வேக அணுகுமுஈறை.

காட்சிப்படுத்துதலை வானொலி கற்றுத் தந்தது. நாமாக அதில் வருபவர்களுக்கு உருவம் ஒன்றை உருவாக்கினோம். கடைசி வரை அவ்வுருவம் தெரியாமலிருந்தது சுவாரசியம். இன்று குரல்களின் பரிச்சயம் நெரிசலின் காரணமாகக் குறைந்து வருகிறது.
