Central varsity gets new chancellor

Former Director of Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, G. Padmanaban, has been appointed Chancellor of the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) in Tiruvarur by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Mr. Padmanaban replaces V. Krishnamurthy, former Chairman of National Manufacturing Competitive Council (NMCC).

Hailing from Thanjavur district, Mr. Padmanaban had his schooling in Bengaluru and graduated from the Presidency College in Chennai. He completed Ph.D in biochemistry at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He was a recipient of Padma Bhushan in 2003 and Padma Shri in 1991.

Nominee for MKU panel

Nageshwar Rao, who has served as Vice-Chancellor of various open universities, including the Indira Gandhi National Open University, is the nominee of Governor-Chancellor Banwarilal Purohit for the search committee tasked with choosing the Vice-Chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University.

Last week, M. Anandakrishnan, former Vice-Chancellor of the Anna University, was chosen as the nominee of the university’s senate for the search panel. A month ago, C. Thangamuthu, former Vice-Chancellor of the Bharathidasan University, was selected as the Syndicate’s choice.
