Given the coronavirus cases in the State, health wing on Tuesday directed private medical colleges across Telangana to start admitting Covid-19 positive patients from April 10 in their affiliated hospitals for treatment.
IT Minister KT Rama Rao and Health Minister Etela Rajender on Tuesday visited Bhaskar Medical College (50-bed capacity), Moinabad and interacted with authorities. The Ministers enquired about their preparedness and inspected isolation rooms, ICU and ventilators in the medical college.
Twenty-two hospitals attached to the private medical colleges will provide additional beds for coronavirus patients. The hospitals have already been directed not to perform any elective procedures, which will ensure availability of isolation beds for Covid-19 positive patients.
The government will provide all necessary disposables like PPE kits, N-95 masks and drugs.
“You are also requested not to grant leaves to junior doctors, faculty and other healthcare staff,” Etela said. While treating Covid-19 patients, private hospitals will collect swab samples from them and send to Gandhi Hospital.
A committee headed by Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences Vice-Chancellor Karunakar Reddy would coordinate between these hospitals and the government.
