New Delhi: In a recent letter written to the the Principals of all self financed dental colleges across the country, the Apex Dental regulator, Dental Council of India (DCI) has ordered that no dental college will stop or cut the salary/pay/wages/stipend deduction and regular payment to the faculties, students and other employees during the lockdown period of COVID-19. The letter while using the words "advised" also clearly that the it is for strict compliance by the self-financed dental colleges/institutions

" By now we all are aware of the disastrous situation that has been created by the COVID 19 pandemic globally as well as in India. Last few weeks we have also seen the fight put up by our government and all the healthcare personnel ably aided by other emergency service agencies and people attached to them. Saying this, we can also feel that this war against Corona virus is far from being over,"

" The only way for us apart from the healthcare measures, are to keep our own morale high and support our government and the people fighting this war at the frontline by following their instructions to the word. It is very important now that all the citizens of India remain united, mentally strong and have full faith that we can and will overcome this fight against the pandemic. It goes without saying that the economic position of a person contributes a lot to their mental condition and we all should try our level best in whatever possible way to see to it that we should contribute wherever possible to create a situation where people feel mentally and economically stable and not do anything that can make them feel economically vulnerable in this situation," the letter by DCI secretary

The DCI went on to remind the dental colleges about what PM Modi has requested all employers of the country "Our Hon'ble Prime Minister have already asked the public and private establishment employers not to cut/deduct salaries or lay off employees during the Corona Virus (COVID-19) pandemic. The physical absence from duties of the employee are due the Central Government / State Government orders and not by their personal choice so they should be treated as "on duty" during their period of absence," it said

" Respecting the directions given by our Hon'ble Prime Minister and the advisory issued by the Ministry of Labour & Employment, Government of India, New Delhi, all the self-financed dental colleges/institutions are advised to extend their coordination and contribute to the National cause by not cutting / deducting salaries or laying off any faculty or other employees working in the colleges and to ensure regular on-time payments during this hour of need," the DCI directed
