தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்ட மாணவி; கொந்தளித்த மாணவர்கள்: கல்லூரி நிர்வாகம் விளக்கம்

சோழிங்கநல்லூர் அருகே செம்மஞ்சேரியில் உள்ள தனியார் கல்லூரியில் மாணவி ஒருவர் நேற்று (புதன்கிழமை) தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டார். இதனையடுத்து மாணவர்கள் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட நிலையில், கல்லூரி நிர்வாகம் சார்பில் விளக்கம் அளிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

கல்லூரி நிர்வாகத்தின் விளக்கத்தில், "தேர்வில் முறைகேட்டில் ஈடுபடும் மாணவர்கள் யாராக இருந்தாலும் அவர்கள் மீது என்ன நடவடிக்கை எடுக்கப்படுமோ அதே நடவடிக்கைதான் சம்பந்தப்பட்ட மாணவி மீதும் எடுக்கப்பட்டது" எனத் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

மாணவி தற்கொலையும் மாணவர்கள் போராட்டமும்:

ஹைதராபாத்தில் உள்ள தனியர் நிறுவனத்தில் உயர் பதவியில் இருக்கும் ராஜா ரெட்டி என்பவரின் மகள் துவ்ரு ராகா மோனிகா. இவர் பொறியியல் முதலாம் ஆண்டு பயின்று வந்தார். நேற்று பருவநிலை தேர்வு நடந்தது. அப்போது, தேர்வு அறையில் முறைகேட்டில் ஈடுபட்டதாக மாணவி மோனிகாவை கண்காணிப்பாளர் வெளியேற்றியுள்ளார். அவரை அறையில் இருந்து வெளியேற்றுவதற்கு முன்னதாக ஒரு படிவத்தில் கையெழுத்தும் வாங்கியுள்ளார். படிவத்தில் கையெழுத்திட்டு கொடுத்துவிட்டு மோனிகா விடுதி அறைக்குச் சென்றுள்ளார். அங்கு தூக்கு போட்டு தற்கொலை செய்து கொண்டுள்ளதாக கூறப்படுகிறது. தேர்வு முடிந்தவுடன் விடுதி அறைக்குத் திரும்பிய சக தோழிகள் மோனிகாவின் சடலத்தைப் பார்த்து கல்லூரி நிர்வாகத்துக்கு தகவல் கொடுத்துள்ளனர். இதனையடுத்து போலீஸார் வந்து சடலத்தைக் கைப்பற்றி பிரேத பரிசோதனைக்கு அனுப்பி வைத்தனர்.

'குட்பை' எஸ்எம்எஸ்

தற்கொலைக்கு முன்னதாக அதே கல்லூரியில் பயின்று வரும் அவருடைய சகோதரருக்கு 'குட்பை' என மெசேஜ் அனுப்பியுள்ளார் மோனிகா. தேர்வை எழுதிவிட்டு வெளியே வந்து தனது செல்ஃபோனைப் பார்த்த மோனிகாவின் சகோதரர் படித்து விடுதிக்கு விரைந்துள்ளார். அங்கு சகோதரியின் சடலத்தைப் பார்த்து அவர் அதிர்ந்து போயுள்ளார்.

மோனிகா அனுப்பிய குறுந்தகவல் செய்தியை செம்மஞ்சேரி காவல் உயர் அதிகாரி ஒருவர் உறுதி செய்துள்ளார்.

கல்லூரியின் அழுத்தமே காரணம்:

இந்நிலையில், மாணவியின் தற்கொலைக்கு கல்லூரி நிர்வாகம்தான் காரணம் என்று கூறி மாணவர்கள் சிலர் நேற்று இரவு கல்லூரி வளாகத்தில் திடீர் போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டனர்.

மேலும், கல்லூரி வளாகத்தில் இருந்த மின்விளக்கு, பேருந்து கண்ணாடிகளை அடித்து நொறுக்கினர். இதனால் கல்லூரி வளாகத்தில் பரபரப்பு ஏற்பட்டது. மேலும், சில மாணவர்கள் கல்லூரி வாயிலுக்கு வந்து கோஷங்களை எழுப்பினர். சிலர் கல்லூரி வளாகத்தில் இருந்த பொருட்களுக்கு தீ வைத்தனர். உடனே, தீயணைப்பு வாகனங்கள் வரவழைக்கப்பட்டு தீ அணைக்கப்பட்டது. அதையடுத்து, அங்கு 100-க்கும் மேற்பட்ட போலீஸார் குவிக்கப்பட்டனர்.

போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்ட மாணவர்களுக்கு போலீஸார் எச்சரிக்கை விடுத்ததையடுத்து, மாணவர்கள் கலைந்து சென்றனர்.

தற்கொலை தீர்வாகாது..

எந்த ஒரு பிரச்சினைக்கும் தற்கொலை நிச்சயம் தீர்வாகாது. தற்கொலை எண்ணம் தோன்றினால் யாராக இருந்தாலும் மாநில உதவி மையமான 104- உதவி எண்ணுக்கு அழைக்கலாம். அல்லது 'ஸ்நேகா' தற்கொலை தடுப்பு மையத்தை 044-24640050 என்ற எண்ணில் தொடர்பு கொள்ளலாம்.

நிகழ்வு 1:

“டாக்டர் கிட்ட போனீங்களே, என்ன ஆச்சு?”
“டாக்டர் ஸ்டென்ட் போட...” சொல்லி முடிப்பதற்குள்
“சரி, அது இருக்கட்டும், நயூஸ் ஆரம்பித்துவிட்டது”. (செய்திகளைப் பார்த்தபடியே கையில் இருக்கும் ஃபோனை நோண்டினார்)

நிகழ்வு 2:

அவர்: “ஹலோ, கேள்விப் பட்டேன்.”
இவர்: “அவ்வளவு வேகமா நடந்து போச்சு”(விசும்பல் சத்தம்).
அவர் : “ஆமாம், ரொம்ப கஷ்டம் தான்”.
இவர் : “உனக்குத் தான் தெரியுமே…”
அவர் : (டக் டக் என்று எதிர் முனையில் கணினி சத்தம்) ஓ!
இவர் : (கணினி சத்தம் கேட்க, உள்ளூர “ஏன் கூப்பிட்டு விட்டு, இப்படி”?) என்று தோன்கிறது.
அவர்: “ம், சொல்லு”(டைப் அடிக்கும் சத்தம் தொடர்ந்தது).
இவர்: “நான் கவனமா இருந்திருக்கலாம்”
அவர்: “... அப்புறமா” தொலைப்பேசி துண்டிக்க பட்டது.
இவர்:  (“அவரே ஃபோன் செய்து விட்டு எண்ணிடமும் ஒழுங்காகப் பேசாமல் அங்கு எதையோ டைப் செய்து கொண்டிருந்ததும் இல்லாமல் பேசும் போதே இணைப்பைத் துண்டித்துவிட்டார்!”)

இவை இரண்டுமே, நிஜ வாழ்வின் நிகழ்வுகள். இரண்டிலும்,  ஒருவர் தம்மை பற்றிக் கேட்டதால், தன் விவரத்தைப் பகிர்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கிறார். அப்பொழுது கேட்டவர் தன் வேலையில் கவனத்தை செலுத்த, அரவணைப்பு மறுக்கப் படுகிறது. இதை பல்பணியாக்கம் (multitasking) என்ற போர்வையில் சேர்த்து விட முடியாது.

அக்கறையும், நிராகரிப்பும் நம்மால் பல விதங்களில் காட்ட முடியும். இரண்டையுமே, சைகைகளிலும், பேச்சிலும் தெரிவிப்போம்.

மற்றவர்களை நலம் கேட்கும் போது அக்கறை வெளிப்படும். பொதுவாக, மற்றவர்களைப் பரிவோடு நலம் விசாரிப்போம். அவர்களைச் சான்றவர்களை பற்றியும் கேட்போம், “எப்படி இருக்கீங்க? வீட்டில்? வேலை எல்லாம் நல்லா போய் கொண்டு இருக்கா?” என்று. இப்படிக் கேட்கும் விதத்திலேயே உறவுக்குக் கொடுக்கப்படும் இடமும், முக்கியத்துவமும் தெளிவு படுகிறது!

இதை நிராகரிப்பு கலந்த வகையிலும் காட்ட முடியும். ஒருவரைப் பார்த்ததும், நம் மனதில், “இன்றைக்கு என்ன கேட்கலாம்?” என்பதே மனதில் ஓடும். அவர்கள் எதோ தகவல் சொல்ல வர, “ஆ ஆ”, “சரி, இருக்கட்டும்”, “அதை விடு” என்று நிறுத்தி விட்டு, “எனக்கு, இதை செஞ்சிட்டு” என்று சொல்லுவது, நன்றிக்கோ, ஸாரீக்கோ இடமே இல்லை.

இன்னொரு வடிவமும் எடுப்பதும் உண்டு. ஒருவரை அழைத்து விட்டு, அவர்களுடன் பேசிக்கொண்டு இருக்கும் பொழுது, குறுஞ்செய்தி, வாட்ஸ்அப், டிவி, பார்த்துக் கொண்டு இருப்பது. அவர்கள் பேசிக் கொண்டிருப்பார்கள், இல்லை வேறு எங்கேயோ பார்த்துக் கொண்டு, ஈமேய்ல் டைப் அடித்தபடியோ, கேம்ஸ் ஆடியபடியோ இருக்கக் கூடும்!

“அது இருக்கட்டும்” மற்றும் “அது கிடக்கட்டும்” உடன் சேர்ந்ததே. இவை என்ன தெரிவிக்கின்றன? மற்றவரின் நிலையோ, நிலைமையைத் தெரிந்து கொள்வதோ முக்கியமில்லை என்று. அதாவது, தமக்கு வேண்டிய வேலையை முடிப்பதில் மட்டும் கவனம் செலுத்துவது. மற்றவரை ஒரு ஜீவனாகக் கருதாமல் அவர்களை வெறும் பொருட்கள் போல்க பார்ப்பது தெரிகிறது.

இதில், மற்றவர்களை தமக்கு பயனுள்ள “பொருளாக” மட்டும் கருதுவார்கள். இப்படிச் செய்வதை “ஆப்ஜெக்டிஃபிக்கேஷன்” (objectification) என்று சொல்வார்கள். இதில் சுயநலம் தெரியும், மற்றவர்களைப் பற்றிய சிந்தனை மிகக் குறைவாக இருக்கும். இவர்களைப் பொருத்த வரை உறவைத் தராசில் போட்டு, ஏதேனும் உபயோகமாக இருக்கும் என்று எண்ணினால் மட்டும் உறவைத் மதிப்பார்கள் .

இப்படிச் செய்வோருடன், மற்றவர்கள் உறவு வைத்துக் கொள்வது பல வகைகளில் இருக்கும். சிலர் இவர்களிடம் உள்ள வேறு நல்ல குணாதிசயங்களினால் இதைப் பொறுத்து கொள்வார்கள். இவர்களிடமிருந்து தமக்கு வேறு ஏதாவது செய்து கொள்வதாலும், இந்த உறவினால் மற்றவரிடம் தம்மை உச்ச நிலையில் காட்டிக் கொள்வதற்கும்  “ஜால்ரா”வாக மாறி விடுவார்கள். வேறு சிலர் இப்படிப்பட்ட உறவை முறித்து விடுவார்கள், சிலருக்குத் தாங்க முடியாததால் மன உளைச்சலுக்கு ஆளாகலாம்.

பல சமயங்களில் நாம் மற்றவரைப் பற்றி சிந்திக்காமலேயே, அவர்களைப் பொருளாக அணுகி விடுகிறோம். நிராகரிப்பதோ, ஒரு பொருளாக கருதுவதோ நமக்குப் பிடிக்காது. பல நேரங்களில், பணிபுரியும் சிப்பந்திகளை ஒரு மனிதராகப் பார்க்க மாட்டோம், அவர்கள் செய்யும் வேலையே அவர்களின் அடையாளமாக நாம் பார்ப்போம். இதுவும் நிராகரிப்பு தான். “வசூல் ராஜா” திரைப்படத்தில் ஒரு வயதானவர் இதைத் தான் ஆணி அடித்தார் போல் தெரிவிப்பார் “நாற்பது வருஷமா வேலை செய்கிறேன், என் பேர் கூடத் தெரியாது”.

அக்கறையோடு இருப்பது இதமாக இருந்தாலும் பின் ஏன் நிராகரிப்பு செய்கிறார்கள்? மற்றவர்கள் அலட்சியப் படுத்துவது, ஒதுக்கி வைப்பதைப் பார்த்து தானும் அதேபோல் இருக்க வேண்டும் என்று எண்ணிச் செய்து வருவார்கள்.

“வைக்க வேண்டிய இடத்தில் வைக்கணும்” என்ற எண்ணம் உள்ளவர்களாகச் செயல்படுபவர்கள் வேறுபாடு காட்டும் மனப்பான்மையைக் காட்டுகிறது. அடிமைகளை வைத்தே வாழ்க்கையை ஓட்ட எண்ணுபவர்கள். உறவுகளை தன் தேவைகளைப் பூர்த்தி செய்வதற்கு மட்டும் வைத்துக் கொள்வார்கள். சமநிலையில் இருக்க அஞ்சி இப்படிச் செய்வதும் உண்டு.

ஏதோ ஒரு இழப்பைச் சந்தித்திருக்கலாம் அதனாலேயே அக்கறை காட்ட அஞ்சி நடக்க, நிராகரிப்பே அவர்களின் குணமாகிவிடும்.

தெளிவு இல்லாமல், தன்னுறுதி இல்லாததால் இப்படிச் செய்வதும் உண்டு. இதை மறைக்கவே தன்னை உயர்ந்தவராகக் காட்டுவதாக நினைத்து ஆணவம் என்ற ஆடை அணிவார்கள். இவை எல்லாமே நிராகரிப்பின் பல தோற்றங்கள். தன்னைச் சிறிய வட்டத்துக்குள் சுருக்கி வைத்துக் கொள்கிறார்கள்.

டாம் டூம் என இருப்பதும், அதிகாரம் செய்வதால் மட்டும் வெல்ல முடியும் என்று நம்புவதால் பலர் இப்படிச் செய்வார்கள். இவையும், நிராகரிப்பதும்,  பாதுகாப்பின்மையைக் காட்டுகிறது.

மாற வேண்டும் என்றால், வேறு வழி தெரியாமலேயே இருக்கிறோமா இல்லை வழிகளை அரிந்தும் பின் பற்ற மறுப்பதால் இப்படி எல்லாம் செய்கிறோமா என்று சிந்தித்தால், விடை கிடைக்கலாம்!

உறவை மதிப்பவர்கள் தான் என்ன செய்து கொண்டிருந்தாலும் தன் நேரத்தை மற்றவருடன் செலவிடுவார்கள். அக்கறை உள்ளவர்களை அடையாளம் கண்டு கொள்வது மிகச் சுலபம். இவர்கள் சைகையால் வரவேற்பார்கள், கண்களைப் பார்த்து பேசுவார்கள். மற்றவருடன் இருக்கும் நேரம் தன் வேலையை அந்த நிமிடத்திற்கு நிறுத்தி வைத்துக் கொள்வார்கள். இதை க்வாலிடி டைம் என்றும் சொல்லலாம், இதனாலேயே சுமுகமான சூழல் உண்டாகும், கேட்பதற்கும், பேசுவதற்கும்!

அக்கறை காட்டுவதா? நிராகரிப்பதா?

ரஜினிகாந்த் என்ற பெயருக்கு தமிழ்நாட்டில் ஒரு வசீகர சக்தி இருக்கிறது என்று அனைவரும் அறிந்த உண்மை. சாதாரண மனிதராக தம்வாழ்வைத் தொடங்கிய சிவாஜிராவ் கெய்க்வாட் சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் ரஜினியாக உயர்ந்தது சமகால சரித்திரம். நடிப்பில் சொந்த வாழ்க்கையில் ஆன்மிகத்தில் என ஒவ்வொரு விஷயத்திலும் வெற்றிக் கொடி கட்டி பவனி வரும் ரஜினி அரசியலில் நுழைவதில் மட்டும் மதில் மேல் பூனையாக பல ஆண்டுகாலம் தடுமாறி வருவது ஏன்? இதற்கும் அரசியல் தான் காரணம் என்றாலும் ரஜினியின் காரணம் என்னவாக இருக்கக் கூடும்?

சூப்பர் ஸ்டார் என்ற பட்டமும் கோடிக்கணக்கான ரசிகர்களின் அன்புக்குப் பாத்திரமாவது என்பதும் மாயாஜாலத்தில் நடப்பது இல்லை. அதற்குத் தேவை கடுமையான உழைப்பும், தீவிரமாக நம்பும் ஒன்றில் முற்றிலுமாக தன்னை இழப்பதினாலும்தான் ஒருவர் அத்தகைய பெருமையை அடைய முடியும். நடிக்க வந்து இத்தனை ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகும் கேரவனில் ஓய்வெடுக்க மாட்டாராம் ரஜினி. காலை வந்தவர், மாலை வரை படப்பிடிப்பு முடியும் வரையில் ஷூட்டிங் ஸ்பாட்டில்தான் இருப்பார். மதிய இடைவேளையில் அங்கேயே சிறிது நேரம் புத்தகம் படிப்பார் அல்லது ஓய்வெடுப்பார் ரஜினி.

‘எவன் ஒருவனும் உன்னை விரும்பிவிட்டால், அதை அடைவதில் இருந்து அவனை உலகின் எந்தச் சக்தியாலும் பிரிக்க முடியாது’ எனும் விவேகானந்தரின் பொன்மொழியை தனது வீட்டு வரவேற்பறையில் பதித்துள்ளார். ரஜினிகாந்தால் தான் விரும்பியதை எளிதில் சாதிக்க முடிந்தது. அதற்கான வழிமுறைகளை தானே கண்டடைந்தவர் அவர். தேர்ந்த நடிப்புத் திறனுடன், அதைப் பன்மடங்கு மெருகேற்றக் கூடிய ஜிமிக்ஸ் தெரிந்தவர். ‘எந்திரன்’ படத்தில் ஒரே பாடலில் 100 விதமான ஸ்டைல்களில் தோன்றுகிறார் ரஜினி. ஒவ்வொரு தோற்றத்துக்கும் ஒவ்வொரு உடை என இந்த ஒரு பாடலில் மட்டும் மொத்தம் 100 விதமான உடைகளில் வருகிறார். ஒரே சமயத்தில் ஒரே படத்தில் ரஜினியால் இது நடிப்பு என்ற தெரியும்படியான நடிப்பையும், அதே சமயம் இயல்பாகவும் எதார்த்தமாகவும் பாவனைகளையும் வெளிப்படுத்தி நடிக்க முடியும். ரஜினி ரசிகர்கள் கூட பிரித்துணர முடியாத நுணுக்கம் அது.

எந்த அளவுக்கு தனது கதாபாத்திரத்தை உயர்த்தி காட்ட முடியுமோ அதன் உச்சத்துக்கு சென்று நியாயம் செய்வார் ரஜினி. போலவே உணர்ச்சிப் பிழம்பான காட்சிகளில் இயல்பான நடிப்பால் உருக்கமாக நடித்து கண்கலங்கச் செய்துவிடும் திறமையானவர் ரஜினி. உதாரணத்துக்கு தளபதி படத்தின் பல காட்சிகளை சொல்லலாம். அதிலும் குறிப்பிட்டு சொல்ல வேண்டும் எனில், ‘சின்னத் தாயவள் தந்த ராசாவே, முள்ளில் தோன்றிய சின்ன ரோசாவே’ பாடல் காட்சியில் நடிப்பின் பல்வேறு பரிமாணங்களை வெளிப்படுத்தி இருப்பார் ரஜினி.

நெகிழ்ச்சி, உருக்கம், கண்ணீர், மகன் என்று சொல்ல முடியாத இயலாமை, தாயின் கூந்ததிலிருந்து உதிரும் ஒற்றை மல்லிப் பூவை, கையில் ஏந்து பார்த்தல் என ரஜினி அப்பாடலைக் காண்பவரின் இதயத்தை தனது நடிப்பால் வென்றிருப்பார். இதுதான் ரஜினியின் தனித்தன்மை. அவரது உடல்மொழி, வேகம், நடை, மேனரிஸம் மற்றும் ஸ்டைல் அவரின் வெற்றியின் முக்கிய காரணிகள்.

உயிரே போகும் நிலை வந்தாலும் இழக்கக் கூடாதது எதை?

ஒரு சமயம் சுவாமி விவேகானந்தர் லண்டன் மாநகருக்குச் சென்றிருந்தார். அங்கு அவரது நண்பர் ஒருவரின் பண்ணை வீட்டில் தங்கியிருந்தார். அந்தப் பண்ணை வீடு மிகப் பெரிய நிலப்பரப்பில், இயற்கை எழில் சூழ்ந்த இடத்தில் இருந்தது. அங்கே நிறைய மாடுகள் வளர்க்கப்பட்டன.

ஒரு நாள் மாலை, பண்ணை மைதானத்தில் விவேகானந்தர் வாக்கிங் சென்று கொண்டிருந்தார். அவருடன் நண்பரும், நண்பரின் மனைவியும் நடந்து சென்று கொண்டிருந்தனர்.

அப்போது சற்றும் எதிர்பாராதவிதமாக ஒரு மாடு அவர்களை நோக்கி சீறிப் பாய்ந்து வந்தது. அதன் மூர்க்கத்தனமான ஓட்டத்தைப் பார்த்து பயந்து போன நண்பரின் மனைவி, அப்படியே மயங்கி விழுந்து விட்டார்.

அதைக் கண்டதும் விவேகானந்தரும், அவரது நண்பரும் துணுக்குற்றனர்.

மனைவியைத் தூக்க நண்பர் முயன்றார். அப்போது மாடு அவர்களை நெருங்கி விட்டது. நண்பருக்குக் கையும் ஓடவில்லை; காலும் ஓடவில்லை. இன்னும் சில நொடிகள் அங்கே இருந்தால் மாட்டின் கொம்புகளுக்கு இரையாக நேரிடும் என்பதை உணர்ந்த நண்பர், தன் உயிரைக் காப்பாற்றிக் கொள்ள எழுந்து வேறு திசையில் ஓடினார். ஆனால், விவேகானந்தர் அப்படி இப்படி அசையாமல் ஆணி அடித்தது போல் அந்த இடத்திலேயே நின்றுவிட்டார்.

பாய்ந்து வந்த மாடு, கீழே விழுந்து கிடந்த நண்பரின் மனைவியையும் விவேகானந்தரையும் விட்டு விட்டு, ஓடிக் கொண்டிருந்த நண்பரைத் துரத்தியது. அதைக் கண்ட நண்பர் பின்னங்கால் பிடறியில் அடிக்க, உயிரைக் கையில் பிடித்துக் கொண்டு ஓடினார். மாடும் விடாமல் அவரைத் துரத்தியது.

அதிர்ஷ்டவசமாக ஒரு கட்டடத்திற்குள் புகுந்து தப்பினார் நண்பர். அதன் பிறகே பண்ணை ஊழியர்கள் ஓடி வந்து மாட்டைப் பிடித்துக் கட்டிப் போட்டனர்.

விவேகானந்தர் அதன் பிறகே அந்த இடத்தை விட்டு அசைந்தார்.

அங்கு வந்த நண்பருக்கோ ஒரே ஆச்சரியம். அப்போது நண்பரின் மனைவியும் மயக்கம் தெளிந்து எழுந்தார்.

சிறிது கூட பயமே இல்லாமல் அந்த ஆபத்தான நேரத்திலும் ஒரே இடத்தில் உறுதியாக உங்களால் எப்படி நிற்க முடிந்தது? என்று கேட்டார் நண்பர்.

அதைக் கேட்டு மெல்லப் புன்னகைத்த விவேகானந்தர், 'நான் வித்தியாசமாக எதையும் செய்து விடவில்லை. வருவது வரட்டும்; சமாளிப்போம் என்ற ஒருவித மன உறுதியுடன் நின்றுவிட்டேன். ஓடுபவரைக் கண்டால் துரத்திச் செல்வது மிருகங்களுக்கு உரிய குணம். அதனால்தான் மாடு என்னை விட்டு விட்டு, ஓடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் உங்களைத் துரத்தியது' என்று முடித்தார்.

உயிருக்கு ஆபத்தான நேரத்தில் கூட, அதைக் கண்டு பயந்து ஓடாமல், வருவது வரட்டும் என்ற மன உறுதி பெற்றிருந்த சுவாமி விவேகானந்தரைப் பார்த்துப் பெரிதும் வியந்தார் நண்பர்.

தர்மமும் அதர்மமும்

முதலீடோ, மூலதனமோ இல்லாத ஒரே தொழில் பிச்சை எடுக்கும் தொழில்தான். முன்பெல்லாம் கோயில், தேவாலயம், தர்கா முதலிய புனிதத் தலங்களில் மட்டும்தான் பிச்சைக்காரர்கள் இருப்பார்கள். ஆனால், இன்றைக்கு எல்லா இடங்களிலும் சுற்றித் திரிவதுடன், சாலையில் சிக்னலுக்காக நின்றுகொண்டிருக்கும்போதுகூடப் பிச்சை எடுப்பவர்களின் எண்ணிக்கை அதிகரித்து வருகிறது.

அரசரும் புலவருமான அதிவீரராம பாண்டியன் என்பவர், இழிசெயலாக இருந்தாலும் 'கல்வி' கற்பதற்காக பிச்சைகூட எடுக்கலாம் (வெற்றிவேற்கை -35) என்று பாடிவைத்ததன் காரணம், கல்வி அறிவு பெறுவதன் அவசியத்தை வலியுறுத்தத்தான்.
சில மாற்றுத்திறனாளிகள்கூட ஏதாவது ஒரு பொருளை விற்பனை செய்து, தன்மானத்தோடு வாழ்ந்து வரும்போது, எந்தவித உடற்குறைபாடும் இல்லாதவர்கள்கூட இப்போது பிச்சை எடுப்பதற்குப் பல காரணங்கள் கூறப்படுகின்றன.

உள்ளூர்க்காரர்களைவிட, வெளியூர்க்காரர்கள்தான் எல்லா நகரங்களிலும் அதிகமாகப் பிச்சை எடுப்பதாகப் புள்ளிவிவரம் ஒன்று தெரிவிக்கிறது. சமீபத்தில், ரஷ்யாவைச் சேர்ந்த ஒருவர் காஞ்சிபுரத்தில் பிச்சை எடுத்ததாகப் பத்திரிகைகளில் செய்தி வெளிவந்தது நினைவிருக்கலாம். மிகவும் பின்தங்கிய ஜார்க்கண்ட், பிகார் உள்ளிட்ட வடமாநிலங்களிலிருந்து தென்னிந்தியாவிலுள்ள நகரங்களுக்குப் பிச்சை எடுப்பதற்காகவே பலர் வருகிறார்கள்.
கேட்டால் வியப்பாக இருக்கும்! இலங்கையைப் பொருத்தவரை ஒரு பிச்சைக்காரரின் சராசரி ஒரு நாள் வருமானம் ரூ.4,000 முதல் 5,000 வரையாம். இது குறித்து தனியார் பேருந்து உரிமையாளர் சங்கத் தலைவர் ஒருவர் மேற்கொண்ட ஓர் ஆய்வில் இதைத் தெரிவித்துள்ளார்.
வளைகுடா நாடுகளில் பிச்சை எடுக்கும் தொழில் மிகவும் பரபரப்பாக நடைபெற்று வருகிறதாம். ரமலான் பண்டிகையையொட்டி அந்நாட்டு சுற்றுலாத்துறை 360 பிச்சைக்காரர்களைக் கைது செய்துள்ளது. 

பிச்சைக்காரர் ஒருவர், துபையில் ஐந்து நட்சத்திர ஓட்டலில் தங்கியிருந்தது கண்டு காவல்துறையினர் அவரைக் கைது செய்து விசாரித்ததில், 'பிச்சை எடுப்பதன் மூலம் தனக்கு அதிக அளவில் பணம் கிடைப்பதால் ஐந்து நட்சத்திர ஹோட்டலில் தங்கியிருந்ததாக' அந்தப் பணக்காரப் பிச்சைக்காரர் கூறியுள்ளார்.

எர்ணாகுளம் - மாவூர் பகுதியின் அருகேயுள்ள குற்றிக்காட்டூர் ஜும்மா பள்ளி வாசலில் 70 வயதான முதியவர் பிச்சை எடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தாராம். அவர் வைத்திருந்த கைப்பையில் இருந்து 80 ஆயிரம் மற்றும் தபால் அலுவலகத்தில் 13 லட்சம் ரூபாய்க்கான சேமிப்புக் கணக்கு விவரங்கள் கைப்பற்றப்பட்டுள்ளன. 

பிச்சை எடுத்த பத்து வயது சிறுமியை சந்தேகத்தின் பேரில் காவல்துறையினர் பிடித்து விசாரித்ததில், 'தலைநகரில் (தில்லி) பிச்சைக்காரர்களை வைத்து வியாபாரம் செய்யும் ஒரு முதலாளியால் தான் கடத்தி வரப்பட்டதாகவும், தினமும் பிச்சை எடுப்பதை அவரிடம் கொடுக்க வேண்டும் என்றும், தான் பணக்கார வீட்டுப் பெண்' என்றும் அவள் கூறியிருக்கிறாள்.
அந்த முதலாளியைக் கண்டுபிடித்து விசாரித்ததில், தன்னிடம் வேலை பார்க்கும் பிச்சைக்காரர்கள் மூலம், நாள் ஒன்றுக்கு ரூ.25 ஆயிரம் சம்பாதிப்பதாக அவர் காவல்துறையினரிடம் ஒப்புக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார். 

தலைநகர் தில்லியில், பிச்சைக்காரர்களை வைத்துத் தொழில் செய்யும் நூற்றுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட குழுக்கள் இருப்பதாகக் காவல்துறையினருக்குத் தகவல் கிடைத்திருக்கிறது.
பிச்சைக்காரர்கள் மீது எல்லோரும் இரக்கப்படுவார்கள் என்பதால், இந்தத் தொழிலை காரணம் காட்டி பல சட்டவிரோதமான செயல்கள் எல்லா நகரங்களிலும் நடக்கின்றன. குறிப்பாக, இந்தியாவில் - தமிழ்நாட்டில் அதிகம் இதில் ஈடுபட்டு வருகின்றனர் என்று கூறப்படுகிறது.
மற்ற நாடுகளைக் காட்டிலும் இந்தியாவில்தான் அதிக அளவில் பிச்சைக்காரர்கள் இருக்கிறார்கள் என்கிறது ஒரு புள்ளிவிவரம். பிச்சைக்காரர்களே இல்லாத தேசமாக இந்தியாவை ஆக்கமுடியுமா என்று பலரும் கனவு கண்டு கொண்டிருந்த வேளையில்தான், 'சென்னையிலாவது அவர்களை இல்லாமல் செய்வோம்' என்று கூறி, 2010 -இல் தீவிரமாகக் களம் இறங்கியது சென்னை மாநகராட்சி.

சட்ட விரோதமான செயல்களுக்குத் துணைபோகும் பிச்சைக்காரர்கள், மனநலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டோர் மற்றும் அநாதைகள் என 748 பேரை இனங்கண்டு, பிடித்த சென்னைப் பெரு மாநகராட்சி, அவர்களில் மனநலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டோரை நீதிமன்ற அனுமதியுடன் கீழ்ப்பாக்கம் மனநல மருத்துவமனைக்கும், சிலரை அவர்களின் உறவினர்களிடமும், உடல்நலம் பாதித்தவர்களை சிகிச்சைக்காக அரசு மருத்துவமனைகளிலும், அநாதைகளை ஆதரவற்றோர் இல்லங்களிலும் சேர்த்துள்ளது. 

வேதாளம் முருங்கை மரம் ஏறிய கதையாக, மீண்டும் சென்னையில் பிச்சைக்காரர்களும், மனநலம் பாதிக்கப்பட்டோரும், ஆதரவற்றோரும் அதிக அளவில் சுற்றித்திரிவதாகவும், பொதுமக்களுக்குத் தொல்லை கொடுப்பதாகவும் சமூகநல அமைப்புகள் மூலம் தொடர்ந்து புகார்கள் இப்போது மீண்டும் எழுந்திருக்கின்றன. 

'தருமமிகு சென்னை' என்று பெருமிதப்பட்டுப் பாடினார் அருட்பிரகாச வள்ளலார். சென்னையில் மீண்டும் தருமம் செழிக்க வேண்டுமென்றால், 2010-இல் சென்னை மாநகராட்சியால் நல்லது நடந்ததுபோல மீண்டும் நல்லது நடந்தால் மட்டுமே, இது உண்மையான 'தருமமிகு சென்னை' யாகும்.

சிகிச்சைக்கு சிகிச்சை தேவை!

நம் நாட்டின் மருத்துவர்கள், மக்களுக்கு சேவை செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்துடன் வேலை செய்கிறார்களா அல்லது எப்படியாவது பணம் சேர்க்க வேண்டும் என்ற எண்ணத்துடன் தங்கள் மருத்துவப் பணியை செய்கிறார்களா என்ற விவாதம் உருவாகியுள்ளது.
சமீபத்தில் வெளியான 'மெர்சல்' எனும் தமிழ் திரைப்படத்தில் இது பற்றிய வசனம் ஒன்று இருந்ததை மருத்துவர் சங்கங்கள் எதிர்த்துள்ளன. ஆனால், உண்மையான கள நிலைமையை ஆராய்ந்தால், நல்ல சேவை மனப்பான்மையுடன் பணி செய்யும் மருத்துவர்கள் மிகச் சிலரும், பணம் ஈட்டுவதை மட்டுமே குறிக்கோளாகக் கொண்டு பணி செய்யும் மருத்துவர்கள் வெகுபலரும் இருப்பது தெரியவரும்.

தனியார் மருத்துவமனைகள் மிக அதிக அளவில் தொடங்கப்பட்ட பின்னர் பணம் ஒன்றே குறிக்கோள் என்ற வியாபார நோக்கில் இதுபோன்ற மருத்துவமனைகள் செயல்படுவதால், அவற்றில் பணிபுரியும் மருத்துவர்களும் இதுபோன்ற நிலைமைக்குத் தள்ளப்படுகிறார்கள் எனலாம். இதை விரிவாகப் பார்ப்பதற்கு முன், இதுபற்றி ஆந்திர மாநிலத்தைச் சார்ந்த பிரபல மருத்துவர் ஒருவர் இதுபற்றிய ஒரு சிறப்பான கட்டுரையை இரண்டு ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன் எழுதியிருந்தது கவனிக்கத்தக்கது.

அந்தக் கட்டுரையில் தனது சகாவான ஒரு மருத்துவர், கர்னூல் மாவட்டத்தின் ஒரு கிராமத்தில் தனது மருத்துவத் தொழிலை செய்து வருவதாகவும், அவரை ஒரு நோயாளி அணுகியபோது அவருக்கு அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்ய வேண்டும் எனவும், அதற்கு ரூ.500 கட்டணம் எனவும் கூறினாராம். அந்த நோயாளி வசதி படைத்தவர் என்பதால், தன்னை ஒரு நகரத்தின் பெரிய மருத்துவமனைக்கு அனுப்பி வைக்குமாறு அந்த கிராம மருத்துவரிடம் கேட்டுக் கொண்டுள்ளார்.
அதற்கிணங்கிய அந்த மருத்துவர் அவரை ஒரு நகர மருத்துவமனைக்குத் தனது பரிந்துரையுடன் அனுப்பியுள்ளார். சில நாள்கள் கழித்து அந்த நகர மருத்துவமனையிலிருந்து கிராம மருத்துவருக்கு ரூ.1,000 கமிஷன் தொகையாக வந்துள்ளது. அதாவது, ஒரு நோயாளியை தங்களது பெரிய மருத்துவமனைக்குப் பரிந்துரைத்து அனுப்பியதற்கு அந்த மருத்துவருக்கு ஒரு தொகை வழங்கப்படுகிறது.

இதுபோன்று கமிஷனுக்காகப் பல மருத்துவர்களும் நோயாளிகளை பெரிய மருத்துவமனைகளுக்குப் பரிந்துரைத்து அனுப்பி வைக்கிறார்கள். தனது மருத்துவமனையில் அந்த நோயாளியின் சிகிச்சைக்கோ, அறுவை சிகிச்சைக்கோ பெறும் கட்டணத்தை விடவும், அவரைப் பெரிய மருத்துவமனைக்கு அனுப்பும்போது கிடைக்கும் கமிஷன் அதிகமானது எனும்போது, சுலபமாக சம்பாதிக்க முடிகிறது என்று நினைப்பவர்கள் இல்லாமல் இல்லை. எல்லா ஊரகப்புற மருத்துவர்களும் அப்படிப்பட்டவர்கள் அல்ல என்றாலும், இன்றைய தலைமுறை மருத்துவர்கள் மத்தியில் அத்தகைய எண்ணம் அதிகரித்து வருகிறது என்பதை அவர்கள் மனசாட்சியே சொல்லும்.

இதுபோலவே விஜயவாடாவில், கல்லீரல் சிகிச்சைக்காக ஒரு நோயாளி ஒரு மருத்துவரை சந்தித்தபோது, அவருக்கு மருத்துவம் செய்ய ரூ.2,000 ஆகும் எனக் கூறியுள்ளார். அவர் ஒரு பெரிய மருத்துவமனைக்குச் செல்ல விரும்பியதால், அவரை அப்படிப்பட்ட மருத்துவமனைக்கு அனுப்பி வைத்த மருத்துவருக்கு அந்தப் பெரிய மருத்துவமனையால் ரூ.6,000 வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இந்த விவரங்களை எல்லாம் குறிப்பிட்டு, அந்தக் கட்டுரையை எழுதிய மருத்துவர், இது ஒரு நியாயமற்ற நடவடிக்கை எனத் தனது சகாக்களான மருத்துவர்களைக் கண்டித்துள்ளார். தனது பணத்தை சரியான அளவில் செலவு செய்து தரமான மருத்துவ சிகிச்சையை நோயாளிகள் பெறுகிறார்களா எனக் கேட்கிறார் அவர். 

நமது நாட்டில் ஒவ்வோர் ஆண்டும் 29 கோடி பேர் மருத்துவச் செலவு செய்வதால் மட்டும் ஏழ்மை நிலைமைக்குத் தள்ளப்படுகிறார்கள் என்கிற அவரது பதிவைப் பல ஆய்வுகளும் உறுதிப்படுத்துகின்றன. இந்தக் கொடூரத்தை மருத்துவர்கள் கைவிட வேண்டும் எனவும், இந்திய மருத்துவக் கழகம் அதை உடனடியாகக் கட்டுப்படுத்த நடவடிக்கைகளை எடுக்க வேண்டும் எனவும் அவர் வாதிடுகிறார்.

உடல்நலக் குறைவால் மருத்துவர்களிடம் வரும் எல்லோருக்குமே, தேவை இல்லாத மருத்துவப் பரிசோதனைகள் நடத்தப்படுகின்றன. காரணம், இதுபோன்ற மருத்துவப் பரிசோதனைகளில் கிடைக்கும் கட்டணங்களில் ஒரு பகுதி மருத்துவர்களுக்குக் கமிஷனாக வழங்கப்படுகிறது என்பதுதான்.

சென்னையின் மிகப்பெரிய தனியார் மருத்துவமனை ஒன்றில் 65 வயது நோயாளி ஒருவர் சேர்க்கப்பட்டு, மூன்று நாள்கள் சிகிச்சை பெற்றுள்ளார். அவருக்கான மொத்த செலவு ரூ.1 லட்சத்து 38 ஆயிரம். நோய் குணமாகி வீட்டிற்கு வந்தபின் அவரை சந்தித்த உறவினர் ஒருவர் கூறியது ஆச்சரியமளிப்பது. அவரது நோய் மிகச் சாதாரணமான ஒன்று எனவும், அவர் உள்நோயாளியாக இருந்திருக்க வேண்டிய அவசியமே இல்லை எனவும் கூறியுள்ளார். சிகிச்சை பெற்றவருக்கு ஒரே அதிர்ச்சி.

அந்த உறவினர் ஒரு சிறந்த மருத்துவர். பாம்பின் கால் பாம்பறியும் என்பதுபோல, ரூ.1,38,000 ஏன் கட்டணமாக வசூலிக்கப்பட்டது என்பதை அவர் உடனே புரிந்து கொண்டுவிட்டார். உள்நோயாளியாக இருந்தவருக்கு அறை வாடகை மற்றும் மருத்துவப் பரிசோதனைக்கான செலவுகளே அதிகமாக ஆகியுள்ளன என்பதை மருத்துவரான அந்த உறவினர் விளக்கியபோதுதான் தெரிந்தது மருத்துவமனைகள் எப்படி ஏமாற்றுகின்றன என்பது.
இதைப்போலவே, மற்றுமொரு பெரிய தனியார் மருத்துவமனையில் ஒருவர் நெஞ்சு வலி எனக்கூறி உள்நோயாளியாகச் சேர்க்கப்பட்டார். எல்லா மருத்துவப் பரிசோதனைகளும் செய்யப்பட்டு, அவருக்கு இதய ரத்தக் குழாயில் அடைப்பு இருப்பதால் 'பைபாஸ்' எனப்படும் அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்யப்பட்டது. அறுவை சிகிச்சை முடித்தது. ஒன்பது நாள் கழித்து குணமாகி வீடு திரும்பினார். அவருக்கான மொத்த செலவு ரூபாய் 9 லட்சத்து 40 ஆயிரம்.
அதே நேரத்தில், அவருக்குத் தெரிந்த ஒருவர் அதே அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்யப்பட்டு குணமாகி, ஏழு நாள்கள் மருத்துவமனையில் இருந்து வெளியேறி உள்ளார். அவருக்கான மொத்த செலவு ரூ.1 லட்சத்து 15 ஆயிரம் மட்டுமே.

இது எப்படி என ரகசியமாக அந்த மருத்துவமனையில் வேலை செய்யும் ஒருவரிடம் விசாரித்தபோது, 'நீங்கள் மருத்துவமனைக்கு வந்து சேரும்போது, உங்களைப் பற்றிய விவரங்களை ஒரு படிவத்தில் பூர்த்தி செய்யச் சொல்வார்கள். உங்களுக்கு மற்ற நோயாளிகளுடன் தங்கும் பொது வார்டு வேண்டுமா அல்லது தனி அறை வேண்டுமா என்பது போன்ற கேள்விகள் இருக்கும். 

இதை நீங்கள் பூர்த்தி செய்து கொடுக்கும்போதே நீங்கள் பணக்காரரா, நடுத்தர வர்க்கத்தவரா என்பது தெரிந்துவிடும். அதை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு உங்களது அறை, உணவு வகைகள் மற்றும் மருத்துவப் பரிசோதனைகள் செய்யப்பட்டு, அதிகக் கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கப்படும்.
உங்களுக்குத் தெரிந்த அந்த நண்பர் பொது வார்டில் தங்கி, சில பரிசோதனைகள் மட்டும் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டு, அறுவை சிகிச்சை செய்யப்படுவதால் அவருக்குக் குறைந்த செலவே ஆகியிருக்கிறது' என்கிற பதில் கிடைத்தது.

அதிகப் பணம் செலவு செய்யத் தகுதி இருப்பவர்கள் இதுபோன்ற மருத்துவமனைகளுக்குச் சென்று பணம் செலவு செய்து குணப்படுத்திக் கொள்ளலாமே, அதில் என்ன தவறு எனக் கேட்கலாம். லாப நோக்கில் மருத்துவச் செலவுகளைப் பெருக்கும் கலாசாரம் பெரிய மருத்துவமனைகளில் தொடங்கி சிறிய மருத்துவமனைகளுக்கும், மருத்துவர்கள் மத்தியிலும் ஊடுருவுகிறதே என்பதுதான் நமது கவலை.

முப்பது ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்புவரை எல்லா உணவு விடுதிகளிலும் சைவ உணவு வெறும் ரூ.10 அல்லது ரூ.15 என்றுதான் இருந்தது. அது 'கஃபே'க்களும், 'விலாஸ்'களும் இருந்த காலம். 'பவன்'கள் வரத்தொடங்கி சைவ உணவுக்கான கட்டணத்தை இருமடங்காக்கிய பிறகு, எல்லா விடுதிகளும் அதே கட்டணத்தை வசூலிக்கத் தொடங்கி, இப்போது ரூ.80, ரூ.100 என்று ஆகிவிட்டிருப்பதைப் போலத்தான் இதுவும்.

பல கோடி செலவழித்துப் படிக்கிறோம், வங்கிகளில் கடன் வாங்கிப் பல கோடிகள் முதலீடு செய்து மருத்துவ சிகிச்சைக்கான உபகரணங்களை வெளிநாடுகளிலிருந்து இறக்குமதி செய்கிறோம். அதை நோயாளிகளிடம்தானே வசூலித்தாக வேண்டும் என்பதுதான் இதுபோல அடாவடியாகவும், முறைகேடாகவும் கட்டணம் வசூலிக்கும் மருத்துவர்களும், மருத்துவமனைகளும் தரும் விளக்கம். 

இவர்களால், வங்கிக் கடனில் வாங்கப்படும் விலையுயர்ந்த உபகரணங்களை, அரசு மக்களின் வரிப்பணத்தில் வாங்கி, அரசு மருத்துவமனைகளைத் தரம் உயர்த்த முடியும்.
ஆனால், கிராமங்களுக்கும், ஊரகப் பகுதிகளுக்கும் சென்று வேலை பார்க்கவும், ஏழை எளியவர்களுக்கு சிகிச்சை அளிக்கவும் எத்தனை மருத்துவர்கள் தயாராக இருக்கிறார்கள் என்கிற கேள்விக்கு, இன்றைய இளைய தலைமுறை மருத்துவர்கள் என்ன பதில் சொல்லப் போகிறார்கள்?

இது எங்கே போய் முடியப்போகிறது என்று தெரியவில்லை. திருவள்ளுவருக்கு இது இரண்டாயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு முன்பே தெரிந்திருக்கிறது. அதனால்தான் எழுதினார் - பொருள் இல்லார்க்கு இவ்வுலகம் இல்லை!

உயிர் காக்கும் 51 மருந்துகளின் விலை குறைப்பு

புதுடில்லி: உயிர் காக்கும் 51 அத்தியாவசிய மருந்துகளுக்கான விலை, 6 சதவீதம் முதல் 53 சதவீதம் வரை குறைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

இதுகுறித்து மருந்துகள் விலையை நிர்ணயிக்கும், என்.பி.பி.ஏ., எனப்படும் தேசிய மருந்து விலை நிர்ணய ஆணையம் வெளியிட்ட அறிக்கையில் கூறியிருப்பதாவது: இதயநோய், புற்று நோய், மஞ்சள் காமாலை உள்ளிட்ட நோய்கள் உட்பட உயிர் காக்கும் 51 அத்தியாவசிய மருந்துகளுக்கான விலை, 6 சதவீதம் முதல் 53 சதவீதம் வரை குறைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இந்த விலை குறைப்பை, மருந்து விற்பனை நிறுவனங்கள் ஏற்று, மருந்துகளின் விலையை உடனடியாக குறைக்க வேண்டும். உதாரணமாக நெஞ்சு வலியால் பாதிக்கப்படுபவர்களுக்கு, ஊசி மூலம் செலுத்தப்படும், 'அல்டிபிளாசி' விலை, 28 சதவீதம் வரை குறைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இவ்வாறு அறிக்கையில் கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது.
மேலும் அறிக்கையில், உயிர்காக்கும் 36 வகையான மருந்துகளுக்கு அதிகபட்ச விலையை நிர்ணயித்தும், 15 உயிர்காக்கும் மருந்துகளின் விலையை மாற்றி அமைத்தும் என்.பி.பி.ஏ., அறிவித்துள்ளது.

  சென்னை: சேகர்ரெட்டி வழக்கில் இருந்து விலகுவதாக நீதிபதி ரமேஷ் அறிவித்துள்ளார். மேலும் சேகர் ரெட்டி மீதான வழக்கை வேறு நீதிபதிக்கு பரிந்துரைக்கும் படி கடிதம் எழுதி உள்ளார்.

பூந்தமல்லி,

நடிகர் சசிகுமார் தரப்பினர் சரியான ஒத்துழைப்பு தராததால் தலைமறைவான பைனான்சியர் அன்புசெழியனை பிடிப்பதில் தாமதம் ஏற்படுவதாக போலீசார் தெரிவித்தனர். நேரில் ஆஜராக உத்தரவிட்டதை தொடர்ந்து சசிகுமார் திங்கட்கிழமை ஆஜராகிறார்.

தமிழ் திரைப்பட இயக்குனரும், நடிகருமான சசிகுமாரின் அத்தை மகன் அசோக்குமார் (வயது 43) வளசரவாக்கம் ஆற்காடு சாலையில் உள்ள அடுக்குமாடி குடியிருப்பில் வசித்துவந்தார். இவர் சசிகுமார் நடத்திவரும் ‘கம்பெனி புரடக்சன்’ நிறுவனத்தில் இணை தயாரிப்பாளராகவும் இருந்துவந்தார்.

கடன் தொல்லையால் கடந்த 21–ந் தேதி கடிதம் எழுதிவைத்துவிட்டு தற்கொலை செய்துகொண்டார். இந்த சம்பவம் சினிமா வட்டாரத்தில் பெரும் அதிர்ச்சியையும், பரபரப்பையும் ஏற்படுத்தி உள்ளது. கடிதத்தில், தற்கொலைக்கு சினிமா பைனான்சியர் அன்புசெழியனிடம் வாங்கிய கடனே காரணம் என்றும் குறிப்பிட்டு இருந்தார்.

நடிகர் சசிகுமார் அளித்த புகாரின் பேரில் வளசரவாக்கம் போலீசார் முதல்கட்டமாக அன்புசெழியன் மீது தற்கொலைக்கு தூண்டியதாக வழக்கு பதிவு செய்தனர். போலீசார் 3 தனிப்படைகள் அமைத்து தீவிரமாக விசாரணை செய்து வருகின்றனர். ஒரு பிரிவினர் மதுரைக்கும், மற்றொரு பிரிவினர் ராமநாதபுரத்துக்கும் சென்று அன்புசெழியனை தீவிரமாக தேடினர். போலீசார் தேடுவதை அறிந்த அன்புசெழியன் தலைமறைவாகி உள்ளார்.

மேலும் அவரது குடும்பத்தினர் மற்றும் அலுவலகத்தில் பணிபுரிவோர் என அனைவரும் தலைமறைவாகி உள்ளனர். சசிகுமார் தரப்பினர் சரியான ஒத்துழைப்பு கொடுக்காததால் தலைமறைவாக உள்ள அன்புசெழியனை பிடிப்பதில் காலதாமதம் ஏற்பட்டுள்ளதாக போலீசார் தெரிவித்தனர்.

இதுகுறித்து போலீஸ் அதிகாரி ஒருவர் கூறியதாவது:–

சசிகுமார் புகார் செய்த அன்று இரவே அன்புசெழியன் செல்போனை சுவிட்ச்–ஆப் செய்துவிட்டு தலைமறைவாகிவிட்டார். கடைசியாக அவரது செல்போன் தியாகராயநகரில் இருப்பதாக காட்டியது. அன்புசெழியனிடம் இருந்து சசிகுமார் தரப்பினர் எவ்வளவு பணம் கடனாக வாங்கினார்கள். அதற்காக என்ன சொத்து ஆவணங்கள் அடமானம் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது என்பது குறித்து இதுவரை எந்த தகவலும் தெரிவிக்கப்படவில்லை.

அவர்கள் தரப்பில் இருந்து இந்த தகவல்களை அளித்தால் தான் இந்த வழக்கை மேற்கொண்டு வேறு பிரிவுக்கு மாற்றம் செய்வது குறித்து முடிவு செய்யப்படும். இதுகுறித்து சசிகுமார் தரப்பிடம் கேட்டபோது, அவர்கள் இதுவரை நேரில் வரவில்லை. இதனால் விசாரணைக்கு நேரில் ஆஜராகுமாறு அவருக்கு உத்தரவிடப்பட்டது.

அசோக்குமாரின் இறுதிச்சடங்குகள் முடிந்து, அதற்கான காரியம் எல்லாம் முடிந்த பிறகுதான் ஊரைவிட்டு வெளியே வரவேண்டும் என்பது அவர்களின் சம்பிரதாயம் என்பதால் திங்கட்கிழமை நேரில் ஆஜராவதாக சசிகுமார் தரப்பில் தெரிவிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சசிகுமார் வளசரவாக்கம் போலீஸ் நிலையத்தில் திங்கட்கிழமை நேரில் ஆஜராகி இந்த சம்பவம் குறித்து உரிய தகவல் கொடுத்த பிறகு தான் இந்த வழக்கை அடுத்தகட்டத்திற்கு எடுத்துச்செல்ல முடியும். ஆனாலும் தலைமறைவாக உள்ள அன்புசெழியனை பிடிக்கும் பணியில் தீவிரம் காட்டிவருகிறோம்.

ஆர்.கே.நகர் சட்ட சபை தொகுதியின் உறுப்பினராக இருந்த அ.தி.மு.க. பொதுச் செயலாளரும், முதல்-அமைச்சருமான ஜெயலலிதா கடந்த ஆண்டு டிசம்பர் 5-ந் தேதி மரணம் அடைந்ததை தொடர்ந்து அந்த தொகுதி காலியானது.

அவரது மறைவுக்கு பிறகு அ.தி.மு.க. இரண்டாக உடைந்தது. இந்த நிலையில் ஆர்.கே.நகர் தொகுதிக்கு கடந்த ஏப்ரல் மாதம் 12-ந் தேதி இடைத்தேர்தல் நடைபெறுவதாக இருந்தது. பண பட்டுவாடா புகார் காரணமாக அந்த இடைத்தேர்தலை தேர்தல் கமிஷன் ரத்து செய்தது.

இந்த தொகுதிக்கு இடைத்தேர்தல் நடத்தும் பிரச்சினை தொடர்பாக தொடரப்பட்ட வழக்குகளை விசாரித்த ஐகோர்ட்டு, ஆர்.கே.நகர் தொகுதிக்கு வருகிற டிசம்பர் 31-ந் தேதிக்குள் தேர்தல் நடத்த வேண்டும் என்று தேர்தல் கமிஷனுக்கு உத்தரவிட்டது.

இதைத்தொடர்ந்து தேர்தல் நடத்துவது குறித்து தேர்தல் கமிஷன் ஆலோசித்து வந்தது.

இந்த நிலையில், ஆர்.கே.நகர் தொகுதிக்கான இடைத்தேர்தல் தேதியை தேர்தல் கமிஷன் நேற்று அதிகாரபூர்வமாக அறிவித்தது.

அதன்படி ஆர்.கே.நகர் தொகுதிக்கு வருகிற டிசம்பர் 21-ந் தேதி (வியாழக்கிழமை) இடைத்தேர்தல் நடைபெறுகிறது. இதற்கான அறிவிக்கை வருகிற 27-ந் தேதி (திங்கட் கிழமை) வெளியிடப்படுகிறது. அன்றே வேட்புமனு தாக்கல் தொடங்குகிறது. மனு தாக்கல் செய்ய டிசம்பர் 4-ந் தேதி கடைசி நாள் ஆகும்.

சென்னை மெட்ரோ ரெயில் திட்டத்தின் மூலம் நகரில் போக்குவரத்தை மேம்படுத்துதல் குறித்த கருத்தரங்கம் சென்னை சர்வதேச மைய அலுவலகத்தில் நேற்று நடந்தது. கருத்தரங்கில் மெட்ரோ ரெயில் நிர்வாக இயக்குனர் பங்கஜ்குமார் பன்சால் கலந்துகொண்டு பேசியதாவது:-

சென்னை நகரில் ‘ஷேர் ஆட்டோ’வில் பயணம் செய்வதற்கும், மெட்ரோ ரெயிலில் பயணிப்பதற்கும் ஒரே கட்டணம் தான் வசூலிக்கப்படுகிறது. ஆனால் மெட்ரோ ரெயிலில் ஏ.சி.வசதி உள்ளது. சுற்றுச்சுழல் பாதிப்பு இல்லாமல் பாதுகாப்பாக பயணிக்க முடிகிறது.

சென்னையில் 2015-ம் ஆண்டு வெள்ளம் பாதித்தபோதும் மெட்ரோ ரெயில் எந்த தடையுமின்றி இயங்கியது. அப்போது மின்தடை ஏற்பட்டிருந்தாலும் மெட்ரோ ரெயில் நிலையங்களில் தடையில்லாமல் மின்சாரம் வழங்கப்பட்டது.

அண்ணாசாலையில், சைதாப்பேட்டை முதல் டி.எம்.எஸ். வரையிலான சுரங்கம் அமைக்கும் பணி மார்ச் மாதம் நிறைவடையும். மெட்ரோ ரெயில் 2-வது கட்ட திட்டப்பணிகள் மாதவரம்-சிறுசேரி, ஆயிரம்விளக்கு-கோயம்பேடு, மாதவரம்-சோழிங்கநல்லூர் ஆகிய வழித்தடங்களில் மொத்தம் 107.55 கி.மீ. தூரத்துக்கு மெட்ரோ ரெயில் பாதை அமைப்பதற்கு மத்திய அரசு ஒப்புதல் வழங்கிவிட்டது.

வருகிற நிதி ஆண்டில் இதற்கான அறிவிப்பு வெளியாகும். அதன்பின்னர் கடன் வாங்குதல், டெண்டர் விடுதல் போன்ற பணிகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்படும். 2025-ம் ஆண்டுக்குள் இந்த திட்டப்பணிகள் முடிவடையும் என்று நம்புகிறோம்.

சென்டிரல் ரெயில் நிலையம், வால்டாக்ஸ் சாலை, பல்லவன் பாலம் உள்ளிட்ட இடங்களில் தினசரி 6 லட்சத்து 38 ஆயிரத்துக்கும் மேற்பட்ட பாதசாரிகள் கடக்கிறார்கள். எனவே அவர்கள் சாலையை கடப்பதற்கு வசதியாக ரிப்பன் மாளிகையில் இருந்து ஒருங்கிணைந்த நடைபாதைகள் அமைக்கப்பட உள்ளது.

CHENNAI: With a smile and a white lab coat, Dr V Sethuraman sits in his clinic — a dream that he built from scratch. Coming from a family of doctors, his career did not suprise anyone. And since he always presented himself well even when he was in college, this doctor knew that dermatology was his calling. “I knew this was where I would end up, but I also knew that I did not want to do anything surgical. And that’s when I learnt about cosmetology and aesthetic cosmetology in particular,” says the MD of ZI Clinic.

After training under the late dermatologist Dr GR Ratnavel, Dr Sethuraman set up a clinic in the city and began the process of creating awareness about skin care and also offered treatment at affordable prices. “Skin care and treatment is not just for celebrities; we need to take care of our skin. For that, it is important to do check-ups and treat any problem that arises, then and there,” he adds. The celebrity-doctor who has acted in a couple of films talks to CE about his life as a sportsman, films and more. Excerpts follow:
Tell us about your schooling. Were you the popular kid in class or the studious one?
I studied in Montfort School, Yercaud. To be the popular one in Montfort, you need to take part in sports. I played tennis, athletics and others. I was actually keen on playing tennis but I had stopped sports and gymming after I started practicing, but now I am trying to get back to it. Growing up in an all-boys school taught me a lot. I became very independent and since I lived with my friends, I connected with them more and was not in touch with my family as much.
Do you have any phobias?
I have a lot of phobias, not just one (chuckles). To name a few — acrophobia (fear of heights), claustrophobia (fear of confined places), etc. In fact, a couple of days back, I did this movie with actor Santhanam in which we had a song sequence, which was being shot in a dark AC room. I was inside the room and kept feeling that something will attack me. So I used to keep coming out every now and then. Similarly, in one of the songs in Kanna Ladu Thinna Aasaiya (2013), we had to sit on top and do a dance step, and if you notice only Power Star and Santhanam did that scene, I wasn’t there in that, because of my fear of heights.
How did you get into acting?
While I was pursuing medicine at Annamalai University, I was involved in cultural activities, not because I knew to dance or sing, but just to get celebrities as chief guests and show off a bit in front of others (laughs). I brought actor Prasanna once and even Santhanam. At that time, Santhanam had just set foot into movies and was very popular for his jokes. That’s when I met him for the first time, and from then on, our friendship bloomed. We have been good friends for the last 14 years. It was through him that I got into movies. I never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would see myself on screen.
What’s your pick — Beaches or mountains?
I am a beach person; I love the calm and quiet of a beach. I love to travel a lot in general and make it a point to go and see different places. Next one on the bucket list is Spain.
Are you a foodie?
I would have visited every restaurant in Chennai at least once (laughs). I love to eat and try out different varieties of food, however continental is my favourite cuisine. I try and eat as much of it as I can.
If not a doctor, where do you think you would have ended up?
An engineer! It was only in the last minute that I got medicine. My principal did not give me biology initially and told me to take up engineering. I wanted to do that as well back then. So I think I would have definitely gone to the US and worked there as an engineer.

DVAC search in Municipal Commissioner’s office

Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption personnel on Thursday conducted a search at the camp office of the Municipal Commissioner, Kancheepuram. Enquiries reveal that a team of officials landed at the camp office on the Railway Road here around 7 a.m.

After informing the Commissioner, A. Sardar, about the purpose of their visit, they started searching the premises.

The team left the office around 1 p.m. after completing their exercise. The search was a sequel to a complaint received against Mr. Sardar while he served as the Commissioner of a Municipality in a western district, sources added.

HC gives college time to return capitation fee

They were admitted before SC made national test mandatory

The Madras High Court on Thursday came across a case of a private college in Kancheepuram district of having admittied many foreign nationals in bachelor of dental surgery course just days before the Supreme Court delivered its verdict in May last making it mandatory that all seats in the country be filled only on the basis of marks secured in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). Expressing anguish over the dreams of the foreigners having been shattered due to change in the medical admissions policy after they had secured admissions here, Justice M.S. Ramesh gave time till Monday to the management of Asan Dental College at Keerapakkam to enter into an amicable settlement with the foreign nationals who demanded return of the money paid in April last year.

During the course of hearing of a petition filed by the administrators of the college to quash a FIR registered against them by Thirukalukundram police on the basis of a complaint lodged by an Iranian student Nasser Hamidavi Zegheiri, the student’s counsel R.C. Paul Kanagaraj brought it to the notice of the court that several medical and dental colleges had admitted foreign nationals before the Supreme Court passed the judgment.

However, in most of those cases, the colleges returned the capitation fees. But Asan College management had not returned the money, he alleged and claimed that as of now only 4 students were demanding their money back since all others had gone back to their countries. He also claimed the four students had paid Rs. 25 lakh each as capitation fee. Counsel for the suspects mentioned in the FIR contended that there were receipts to prove payment of only Rs. 5.5 lakh by the complainant. Further stating that no criminal offence had been made out against the college administrators since they were willing to provide education to the complainant, counsel said the student could start attending classes.

SC orders compensation to students

For admitting students without government permission

The Supreme Court on Thursday directed a medical college to grant compensation of Rs. 10 lakh each to every student which it admitted in the MBBS course without formal permission from the government.

It also said an Allahabad High Court order allowing the college to admit the 150 students for this academic year, despite the Medical Council of India (MCI) concluding that it had indulged in “unethical and callous” practices in respect of patients and even admitted fake patients, was against the principle of judicial propriety.

The Bench, led by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, imposed costs of Rs. 25 lakh on the respondent, GCRG Memorial Educational Trust, to be paid within eight weeks. The students have to be refunded their fees as well.

The college was one of the 32 barred by the MCI from taking students into academic sessions of 2017-18. It had earlier approached the Supreme Court, which had allowed it to withdraw the petition. It had then moved the High Court.

The MCI, which came in appeal, said it had debarred the college from admitting students for two academic years.

The High Court had on September 1 quashed the MCI decision without even hearing it.

“Catena of cases has categorically held that in matters relating to medical and dental colleges, the High Court should refrain themselves from allowing admissions by way of orders as the same will jeopardise the career of students,” the MCI argued in the Supreme Court.

The Council argued that the HC did not even consider that the “medical college had failed even to comply with the minimum norms/standards for grant of permission for the first batch of 150 MBBS students. Therefore, the college should not have been granted provisional permission to admit a second batch of 150 MBBS students …”

After much uproar over Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's comment about cancer being divine justice, the BJP leader has now issued a public apology. He said that his statement was taken out of context but if it had caused anxiety to someone, he offers 'unconditional apology'.

Sarma who initially tried to defend his remarks and even sparred with P Chidambaram on Twitter, apologised on Thursday evening. He had made the statement on Tuesday when he said, "God makes us suffer when we sin. Sometimes we come across young men getting inflicted with cancer or young men meeting with accidents. If you observe the background you will come to know that it's divine justice. Nothing else. We have to suffer that divine justice".

"In this lifetime or in our previous life, or perhaps my father or mother... perhaps that young man did not do but his father has done something wrong. It is mentioned even in Gita, Bible about the outcome of one's actions. No point in being sad... all will get the outcome of this life's actions in this life only. That divine justice always will be there. Nobody can escape the divine justice that will happen".

However after much outrage, Sarma has apologised.

In a written statement he said, " My speech on divine justice and Karmic deficiency is being quoted out of context. In their bid to trivialize and sensationalise, no one is looking at content of my whole speech and intent. It was said in the context of helping poor students of Government schools and request to teachers not to neglect them. It was also a message to indicate district eduction officers not to harass teachers."

He further wrote, " At no point my statement was intended to cause any pain to cancer patients. However, if owing to the blatant distortions, it has caused any anxiety and problems to anyone, I hereby offer my unconditional apology for the pain."

Karnataka will soon have university on police investigation: Minister

The state government is planning to establish a separate university on police investigation, Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said on Thursday.

Replying to BJP's Tara Anuradha in the Legislative Council, he said the proposed university will help the state police adopt modern technology in the investigation of crimes, cyber crime. Besides, the Home department is spending Rs 80 crore for upgrading forensic science laboratory in Bengaluru, he added.

Tara said that the police personnel are using the traditional methods for the investigation of crimes. She also demanded the state government to come up with a policy for implementing welfare programmes for police personnel.

Vyapam case: CBI files charge sheet against 592 accused

The charge sheet was filed in a special CBI court in Bhopal in the case of Pre-Medical test (PMT) conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam in 2012.

Chairmen of four private medical colleges in Madhya Pradesh and two officers of medical education department are among the 592 accused named in a charge sheet filed by the CBI in a Vyapam-related case, officials said today.

Those listed in the charge sheet included J N Choksey, chairman of L N Medical College; S N Vijaywargiya of People's Medical College; Ajay Goenka of Chirayu Medical College (all in Bhopal) and Suresh Singh Bhadoriya of Index Medical College, Indore, they said.

While three promoters did not comment when contacted by PTI, Bhadoriya claimed neither his nor his college's name was mentioned in the CBI charge sheet.

All four of them are understood to have filed application for anticipatory bail, the CBI officials said.

The charge sheet was filed in a special CBI court in Bhopal in the case of Pre-Medical Test (PMT) conducted by the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam in 2012.

The test was for selecting candidates to various medical colleges of the state.

Explaining the modus operandi, the CBI officials said middlemen followed an engine-bogey system for pairing of candidates to take examination in alleged connivance with certain Vyapam officials.

In this, a bright candidate (who had already taken coaching to prepare for the test and is well versed with the examination pattern) would be alloted a roll number just ahead of a not-so-bright aspirant so that the latter could cheat from him, they said.

The bright candidate would act as engine and the other as the bogey, the official said.
The middlemen were charging anything between Rs 15 and 20 lakh for this pairing, the CBI officials said.

Giving further details of the case, they said on the basis of successful selection, the bright students would then take admission only in the four private medical colleges named in the charge sheet, despite they being in the merit list and hence eligible for admission in government institutions.

These successful candidates, in connivance with middlemen and office bearers of private medical colleges, would later withdraw their admission, the officials said.

Instead of reporting these vacancies to state government department concerned, the college authorities would fill these seats through management quota charging a hefty amount from a minimum of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore, they said.

The students who took admission through the management quotas were not the ones who sat in the examination, the officials said.

Among those named in the charge sheet, 334 are 'engine- bogey' candidates, 155 are guardians of these candidates, 46 invigilators of the examination, 26 officials of four private medical colleges, 22 middlemen and two officers of department of medical education, Madhya Pradesh, they said.

The state government officials named in the charge sheet are S C Tiwari, the then director, and N M Srivastava, the then joint director in the medical education department, they said.

Of the total people named in the charge sheet, 245 have been made accused for the first time. Others have been named in different charge sheet filed earlier by the CBI.

The probe agency is looking into the various cases of massive irregularities in various examination conducted by the Vyapam to select candidates for medical colleges and also for state government jobs

Chennai: Rs 2.61 crore compensation for kin of mishap victims

Chennai: The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Chennai has ordered a whooping compensation of Rs 2.61 crore to women family members of a 47-year of old Singapore-based electrical officer, who was crushed to death along with his wife, in a road accident five years ago.

The mishap took place when he was returning from Singapore and proceeding to his native village in Cuddalore district in 2012.

In the petition, A Semmalar, 28, of Poochimdu village, Cuddalore, submitted that her father D. Arul Oli was working as an electrical officer, NYK Ship Management Private Ltd, Singapore.

He was earning $4910 (approximately Rs 2.70 lakh) per month. Her mother A. Vasuki, 38, was working as a tailor and earning Rs 15,000 per month.

On January 6, 2012, he was returning to the native village from Singapore. After reaching Chennai airport he was proceeding to Cuddalore along with his wife in a Qualis van at 6.15 a.m. A container lorry was driven by its driver in a rash and negligent manner on national highway-45. The driver parked the vehicle in a no-parking zone near Acharapakkam toll plaza.

The van rammed into the container lorry. She said “my parents sustained fatal injuries on their head, abdomen and all over their bodies. They died on the spot instantly”. Acharapakkam police registered a case. One petition was filed by Semmalar and D. Kasiammal, mother of Arul Oli, and another petition by Semmalar and A. Muniammal, mother of Vasuki, seeking a compensation of Rs 3.10 crore.

Counsel for the petitioners M.K. Vijayarajan contended that the family members depended on the income of the deceased. The accident was caused solely due to the negligence of the container lorry driver, V. Anantharaman of Sendur, Tindinvanam taluk. Hence, the owner of the vehicle and United India Insurance Company the insurer of the container lorry, liable to pay a compensation to the petitioners. Small Causes Court, chief judge, V. Sivagnanam, has directed the United India Insurance Company to pay a compensation of Rs 2.61 crore along with an interest of 7.5 percent per annum from November 28, 2012, to the petitioners. Of the total compensation – Rs 2.50 crore would be paid to Semmalar, Rs 10 lakh to Kasiammal, Rs 1.38 lakh to Muniammal.

Sathyabama University declares holiday till January 2

Chennai: Following the unrest on Wednesday wherein students of Sathyabama University indulged in arson after a first year student committed suicide, the college management has declared holiday until January 2.

A spokesperson for the college told that the declared semester holidays were from December 2 till January 3 and they have advanced the holidays by a week.

The students were asked to vacate the hostel on Thursday. “The remaining exams would be conducted in January,” the spokesperson said.

A first year student, Raga Monika Reddy (18) committed suicide in her hostel room allegedly after a college staff humiliated her. She was earlier caught indulging in malpractice during the semester examinations. A dejected Raga Monika sent a text to her twin brother, Rakesh who was also a student in the same department as her and hung herself.

After learning of her death, college students went on a rampage damaging hostel property and set it on fire. A posse of police personnel had to be deployed at the university to prevent any untoward incident. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the teenager’s family members reached the city and received the body after autopsy at the Government Royapettah Hospital. The girl’s father, Raja Reddy, filed a complaint against the college management with the Semmenchery police. Police said that no students have been booked so far for the arson.

N. Ravikumar consumed pesticide on November 17 at his house in Ankammanagar in Guntur. Guntur: A 12-minute selfie video made by a Dalit employee of the medical and health department, alleging harassment and demand for bribes before attempting suicide on November 17 went viral after his death on Thursday. N. Ravikumar died at the NRI Hospital here. The body was brought to the Government General Hospital here for autopsy, where his relatives and Dalit leaders staged a protest alleging that his death was the result of harassment of officials. Ravikumar used to work as a junior assistant in the primary health care centre at Ponnur of Guntur district. He consumed pesticide on November 17 at his house in Ankammanagar in Guntur.

In the video, he alleged that he had joined as an attender and was promoted as lower division clerk in 2015. He alleged that officials demanded `1 lakh to give him a posting at Guntur but he could pay Rs 70,000. He said that he had applied for the promotion list and transfers under the RTI Act, and officials started issuing him memos alleging that he was absent from duty. He alleged that DMHO office incharge A.O. Ratna Raju, health educator Bhanu Murthy, supervisor Mallikharjuna Rao and senior assistant Prasad harassed him. He said he was unable to bear their harassment, and took his life.

After he consumed pesticide, his family members shifted him to GGH on November 18. He was shifted then to the NRI General Hospital at Mangalagiri.

After learning of this, his relatives, Dalit leaders and activists rushed to the GGH and staged a dharna on the main road. Ravikumar’s wife Pushpalatha alleged that he had lodged a complaint against the officials sevens month ago with the Nagarampalem police station but there was no response. Dalit leaders alleged that the police was trying to save the officials who harassed Ravikumar and demanded their arrest based on the selfie video.

Police led by deputy superintendent of police K.G.V. Saritha rushed to the spot and assured protesters about stern action against the officials and registering of a case under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocity) Act. Following this, the protest was called off. Nagarampalem sub-inspector Kiran Babu said that the police collected the selfie video and registered a case based on the complaint of Ravikumar’s wife Pushpalatha and started investigation.

DMHO Dr J. Yasmin stated that an inquiry committee had been appointed with additional DMHO and the report would be submitted to senior officials. She said that she was conducting an inquiry about the allegations. She said that all benefits would be provided to Ravikumar’s family according to the rules on the orders of higher authorities.

‘Bharathiar University staff using its buses for personal needs’

COIMBATORE: A petition from students of Bharathiar University on Wednesday alleges that staff members of the university are using its buses for personal use. Vice-chancellor of the university A Ganapathi confirmed that one such incident came to his notice on Wednesday and that the university will initiate an inquiry against those responsible.

Ganapathi said, "While we have not received any complaint so far, we have been asked by media persons about the issue. It is not right to allow use of university buses for personal use and we will hold an enquiry into this matter at the earliest. Action will be taken accordingly."

Operation of university buses is managed by the public relations officer's office, he said.

According to the petition, a section officer of the varsity S Selvaraju used the university's bus with the registration number TN 38 BC 1146 to ferry people to the ear-piercing ceremony of his granddaughter at Karamadai on November 8.

The petition provides three pictures showing members of Selvaraju's family and friends commuting on the bus on November 8.

The students also alleged that many times the university buses are not operational and they are forced to use public transport. However, the university officials denied these claims.

Besides, the students said there were irregularities in the operation of varsity buses. "The first 10 rows of each bus are allocated for teachers and staff members." They alleged that each staff member occupies a seat and do not allow students to sit next to them if the seats behind the 10 rows are filled.

Kanyakumari collector warns of action against those spreading Tsunami rumours

KANYAKUMARI: Warning people spreading panic by sending fake messages on social media that Tsunami will hit the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Kanyakumari collector Sajjan Singh R Chavan has said that the culprits would be severely dealt with under Section 54 of the Disaster Managaement Act, 2005.

The need for the warning and reassurance to the people from the collector was necessitated as panic is spreading in several coastal districts across the state due to videos warning that major parts of coastal areas will be completely washed away in a Tsunami triggered by a major earthquake before December 31, this year.

There are at least a dozen such videos in YouTube that warn of Tsunami in various countries before December 31, of which six of them are Tamil Nadu centric. One of them is a video of a Thiruvananthapuram-based man who is claimed to have predicted the Tsunami in 2004 and other major incidents over the last two decades, using 'extrasensory perception' (ESP).

These videos and messages were viewed by a few lakh people and shared on Facebook and WhatsApp over the last two months. They have been going viral in the last two weeks as videos and messages in Tamil and English. This has also become a highly debated topic in social media.

Chavan said that such messages on social media are not authentic. He said that Hyderabad-based Indian National Centre For Ocean Information Services is the authentic body that is studying earthquakes in the sea round-the-clock and analysing them scientifically.

"To confirm such 'warning', it is passed on as an emergency messages to the disaster management emergency centres of the Union and state governments. It is then passed on to the public immediately and preventive measures are carried out. No such information has been received till now. So those spreading rumours on such serious issues will be imprisoned for a year or pay a fine," he said.

The collector also asked people not to panic upon reading such unauthenticated messages and not to share them.

Fisherman Prasanth of Kuthenkuly fishing hamlet in Tirunelveli district said that he got the video on WhatsApp few days ago and this has worried him and fellow fishermen. "We are yet to recover from the Tsunami that struck our coasts on December 26, 2004. And, the latest message warning of a worse Tsunami that would destroy coastal areas is worrying," the 23-year-old told TOI.

President of the International Fishermen Development Trust (INFIDENT) Justin Antony said that there is no proof for the messages that are spread on social media. "Such rumours are new as they were not spread for nearly 13 years since Tsunami hit this region in 2004," he said.

Case against retired government official for locking mother at home

SIVAGANGA: Police have registered a case against a retired revenue inspector for leaving his octogenarian mother locked in his home at Karaikudi in Sivaganga district.

Police said Sadguru, 80, had been living with her son, K Rajendran of Prabu Nagar, after the demise of her husband, Kathiresan, few years ago. She was unable to walk, police said.

Around 10 days ago, Rajendran went to Bengaluru with his family, after locking his mother in a room near the front portion of his house. He had kept some food and a few bottles of mineral water near her bed.

Neighbours heard her feeble cries on Tuesday morning. They found the house locked and alerted the Karaikudi North police.

The Karaikudi North police were informed who rushed to the spot and broke the open front door. They found the old woman sitting on the floor in a hapless position. She seemed to be emaciated. Some stale food and a few bottles of water were found near her.

Sub-inspector Parthiban informed the woman's daughter, Muthulakshmi, who is living in the same area.

When Muthulakshmi came there, Sadguru told her daughter that she had not been able to eat food.

Muthulakshmi alleged that her brother had ill-treated their mother and that he had done so with an eye on her property and took her mother home.

Police registered a case against Rajendran under the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

Kuwaiti varsities to train MKU faculty

Madurai:Faculty from two Kuwaiti universities would be visiting Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) to teach professors on the nuances of preparing the university to achieve world ranking. This was agreed upon at a recent visit of vice-chancellor P P Chellathurai to Kuwait.

Speaking to mediapersons on Thursday, Chellathurai said that he visited Kuwait University and Gulf University for Science and Technology, two of the top ranked universities in the world. In order to prepare MKU to focus on world ranking, he had requested some of their faculty to visit MKU, he said.

He also said that Educational Multimedia Research Centre (EMRC) at MKU has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Consortium for Educational Communication (CEC) in New Delhi, which is the nodal agency between University Grants Commission (UGC) and EMRCs. They produce educational television programmes and e-contents on various subjects.

As the result of the MoU, EMRC at MKU will establish a 'digital lounge' that it is free of cost to learners, distraction free, no requirement of internet connection, downloadable contents and the entire UG and PG curriculum in digital mode. EMRC will provide the contents to affiliated colleges for establishing similar digital lounges in their campus.

The colleges have to pay a nominal membership fee, which will be shared between the university and CEC, he said.

Pursuing the digital initiatives of the country, MKU has offered two massive open online courses (MOOC) in sociology, namely glimpses of Indian Social Legislation and Social Welfare and Population studies.

As many as 171 and 241 learners from across the country have been enrolled respectively and certificates will be issued soon, Chellathurai said. Seven more MOOCs will be uploaded soon. The EMRC at MKU has produced e-content materials for UG curriculum on specialised subjects as well, he added.

Kamal Haasan says political situation in Tamil Nadu led MBBS aspirant Anitha to suicide

CHENNAI: Actor Kamal Haasan has said external factors were responsible for the death of 17-year-old S Anitha of Ariyalur, who spearheaded the fight against the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).

Anitha, who scored high marks in the state board Class XII exams, committed suicide on September 1 as she could not pass the NEET and get a medical seat.

In his column in a Tamil weekly that hit stands on Thursday, Kamal said the MBBS aspirant's family could not have pushed her to death and that it was the political situation in Tamil Nadu that had driven Anitha to suicide.

"I was fortunate to have grown up in an environment that brought me in contact with the many teachers who made me grow stronger and wiser. It is sad that Anitha could not grow up in such an environment," Kamal said.

The 63-year-old promised to be a teacher and a friend to "daughters like Anitha."

"I sent members of my Narpani Iyakkam (welfare association) to console Anitha's family members and look after them when she died," Kamal said. Her brother and father met him recently to thank him.

Kamal, who dropped out of school while he was in Class IX, wrote that he had never sought out teachers and that circumstances had taken him to people like directors K Balachandar and R C Sakthi. "If I had perhaps grown up in northern India or in a city like Bengaluru, I might not have come across Periyar. If I have the freedom to express today, it is because of Periyar. Some may consider him a difficult man, but he required that kind of resolve."

"Gandhi is the only teacher I consciously sought out," the Hey Ram actor said and added, "I came to know about Gandhi through the eyes of Periyar, then Ambedkar and finally through Jiddu Krishnamurti."

Doctors collect Rs 18 lakh to pay child’s bill

CHENNAI: Paying a six-year-old boy's hospital bill, quite literally, took the power of the crowd. Doctors at Kanchi Kamakoti Childs trust raised Rs 18 lakh through crowdfunding to help pay a bill of Rs 34 lakh for a child battling pneumonia, dengue, infections and other complications for nearly two months. The child went home on Wednesday.

Saran was in the paediatric ICU for 57 days, connected to an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) machine for 33 days (the machine helps the lungs rest and the body heal).

"The bill was mounting and the child was not recovering, but we decided not to give up. We decided that if parents can't pay, we'd crowdsource funds," said the hospital's chief intensivist, Dr Bala Ramachandran. "We tied up with agencies that help to crowd source funds in October," he said.

The boy's father, D Ashok Kumar, who works for a Korean manufacturing firm, said he was grateful to many who donated money for the treatment. "I used all my savings. My company gave me Rs 5 lakh and friends and family helped.".

The doctors managed to crowdsource about Rs 18 lakh, and convinced the ECMO manufacturer to give them a discount. The hospital also gave a concession and the doctors' fees came to Rs 60,000.

Two days later, when doctors found that a ventilator wasn't helping, they sought help from doctors at Fortis Malar. On September 29, cardiac surgeon Dr KR Balakrishnan connected the boy to an ECMO. The child tested positive for dengue, and also had dengue haemorrhagic shock and infection. Sai had a 70% risk of mortality and needed dialysis.On October 31, doctors weaned him off the ECMO machine. He was on a ventilator for a few more days. On Wednesday, doctors declared him fit for discharge.
