Over 4,000 students take common entrance test

Engrossed:Common entrance test for admission to central universities under way in Tiruvarur on Saturday.
More than 4,000 students took the common entrance examination for admission to central universities, being held on the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN) campus on May 25 and 26.
These students are seeking admission to various undergraduate, postgraduate, integrated five-year and research programmes offered by the CUTs across the country. A total of 4,284 students will be taking up the CU Common Entrance Test 2019 (CUCET2019) at the CUTN campus, Tiruvarur, according to Controller of Examinations A. Ragupathy.
The CUCET2019 is being held in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and Nagercoil, apart from the CUTN campus in Tiruvarur. In all, CUCET2019 is being conducted in 120 centres across the country for admission to courses offered at 14 CUs in the country.
While those seeking admission to undergraduate, postgraduate and other courses will have to take up the CUCET, the candidates with national-level fellowships such as UGC-JRF or UGC-CSIR-JRF and applying for admission to MPhil or PhD programmes are exempted from taking up the entrance test and have to apply through the CUCET2019 online portal. The programmes offered by the CUs have received good response from the students as the number of applications received for admission has increased to around 84,000 this year compared to around 60,000 last year.
