Chief Executive Officer, Packaging & Printing Divsion of ITC, R. Senguttuvan said that fine blending of practical wisdom and theoretical knowledge with intuitive decision making were key factors for achieving success.
In his convocation address at the 29th convocation of Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM) here on Saturday, he said that the art of management was a delicate balance between theoretical knowledge, practical wisdom and intuitive decision making capabilities. Taking initiative with new ideas, demonstrating leadership qualities, tackling tricky situations with confidence, putting aside fear of failure and mobilizing resources around tactfully could produce distinctive leaders.
Mr. Senguttuvan said that India was ranked among the top 5 economic powers in the world and was poised to become world No.3 in the next decade. It would produce numerous opportunities for talented Indians to show their class and emulate Indians who were holding the center stage at leading business enterprises all across the world.
The country had a strong youth force and while several of them were employed, a section of them were unemployed.
But, they could make a big difference in the business or industrial profile of the country if they tapped the opportunities wisely.
In this context, the Central Government had initiated major reforms in the field of education and had given significant thrust to the cause of higher management education by recognizing institutes of eminence and opening educational institutions, he said.
Mr. Senguttuvan added that the country had produced several inspirational business leaders.
They had not only run companies successfully but had become role models for young Indians to emulate. Leaders such as Ratan Tata, Azim Premji, Y. C. Deveshwar, N. Narayanamurthy, Indira Nooyi and Sundar Pichai had made the country proud with their visionary leadership qualities. Young entrepreneurs and graduands should study their success stories so as to emulate them.
N. Bala Baskar, member, Board of Governors, Karuthaiah Pandian, Director, BIM, M. Sankaran and R. Subramanyam, Professors, participated.
As many as 170 students received MBA degrees. M. Mohamed Nafees and S. Aravind were awarded gold medals for their academic excellence.
