The Namakkal child trafficking case was on Monday transferred to the CB-CID. The director general of police (DGP) office dispatched the transfer order to the Namakkal district superintendent of police, police sources said.
“As the newborn trafficking case involves hospitals, brokers and donors across the state, it is logical that the case is transferred to the CB-CID,” an officer from Namakkal district SP office said on condition of anonymity.
Salem range DIG T Senthil Kumar and west zone IG Periaiah sent a recommendation letter regarding the transfer of the case to the state government and police headquarters in Chennai two days ago. Based on their recommendation, the DGP transferred the case. So far the Namakkal district police have arrested eight people, including retired nursing assistant R Amuthavalli, her husband S Ravichandran and ambulance driver Murugesan. The Rasipuram all-woman police have arrested five touts from Erode district. All were remanded in judicial custody at the Salem Central Prison.
Meanwhile, the health department and the cooperative department issued suspension orders to Murugesan and Ravichandran for their alleged involvement in the case.
