Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) is likely to conduct semester examinations for final-year students in July, said senior members of the administration.
An official said final-year examinations need to be held soon as undergraduate and postgraduate students completing their course in 2020 would need their course completion certificates.
“The examinations will most likely be conducted between July 1 and 10. The first five days would be for students completing their course in 2020. The other five days will be for those clearing arrears. The results will be posted by the end of July,” he said.
Most colleges were yet to complete their portions.
Vice-Chancellor M. Krishnan said he was urging principals and teachers to complete portions soon and be prepared for conducting examinations in one and a half months as per University Grants Commission norms.
New exam pattern
“We are choosing a syllabus pattern for the examinations bearing in mind the implications of COVID-19. After the Tamil Nadu government issues orders to conduct examinations, we will continue with our proposed plan,” he said.
The examinations would see multiple choice questions this year.
A letter from Registrar (in-charge) N. Sankar’s office issued on April 14 said a meeting of principals of affiliated and constituent colleges to discuss the syllabus for the examinations will be held on May 20.
As per the letter, the lockdown period will be ‘deemed to be attended’ by all students.
Only for final-year students, a simplified semester examination will be conducted.
A senior official said a meeting was held by the MKU administration a week ago to discuss how the examinations could be conducted.
“Now, we have to maintain social distancing in examination halls. Although MKU may not face any major problem regarding infrastructure as we have little strength, other colleges may have to conduct examinations in various shifts. To discuss the practical difficulties that one may face, another meeting will be held on May 20,” the official said.
