The Avadi Corporation, the local body governing the western suburbs of Chennai beyond Ambattur, has announced a list of 20 shops which will deliver vegetables directly at the doorstep of residents.
The corporation has announced that both its Amma canteens will function through the evening as well. They will be open from 6pm to 8.30pm, corporation commissioner N Ravichandran said. Currently it is open only during morning and afternoon shifts. “This has been done to benefit the urban poor,” he said.
The corporation is preparing a list of grocery shops that will be able to deliver essentials home, Ravichandran said.
The corporation has continued spraying disinfectants on the main roads and lanes. “Every day we are covering at least 150km,” the commissioner said.
Of the 70,000 households, around 50,000 households have been sprayed with disinfectant, Ravichandran said. Twelve vehicles are being used for the purpose, he said.
Also, the corporation has given numbers of officials who can be contacted for food requirement for aged people, medical help for residents, sanitation-related activities and for help in vegetable and grocery supply (see graphic).
