Students begin to lock their choices for PG med seats

Students have begun locking choices for postgraduate seats in medicine with the central medical counselling committee for admission through the all India quota and submit filled in application forms to the state selection committee for admission through the singlewindow counselling system.
The state has added 161 postgraduate seats in government medical colleges taking the total number of PG medical seats in the state to 1,919, the directorate of medical education said. The state surrenders 50% of the seats in all government medical colleges to the centre for admission though the all India quota. Members from across the country apply for seats in Tamil Nadu and the committee under the directorate general of health services allots seats online based on the merit and choice of the students.
As per the schedule released by the medical counselling committee, MBBS graduates who have cleared NEET 2020 have been asked to lock their choices of seats – course and college – allotment between March 16 and March 22. The first round of admissions will be done by March 25 and students will have to join colleges allotted to them before April 3 or opt from second round of counselling. The second round of counselling will be completed by April 15 and students will have join colleges by April 22. The seats that remain vacant will be transferred back to state selection committee on April 22.
The state council, which began sale of online application form on March 12 will received filled in forms online until 5pm on March 23. A copy of the application must also be sent to the selection committee secretary by post. The state will intensify screening to verify cases of impersonation, nativity rules and credits for in-service candidates, a senior official said.
The state will release the rank list by March 30 and schedule counselling.
