Protesters raise slogans seeking fulfilment of their demands

The police on Friday removed over 5,000 Government employees and teachers for staging road rokos in Erode, Salem and Namakkal districts.

In Erode, the members of the Joint Action Council of Tamil Nadu Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisation (JACTO-GEO) staged a road roko at Sampath Nagar and raised slogans seeking fulfilment of their nine demands. Teachers said that under the Contributory Pension Scheme, a percentage of their salary was deducted every month and an equal share had to be contributed by the Government. But the Government had not contributed anything so far, they said.

Over 2,100 members, who blocked the road, were removed by the police and lodged in marriage halls here.

In Salem district, a protest was staged near the Collectorate and the police removed 2,001 protesters, including 1,281 women. In Namakkal district, protest was held on Park Road and the police removed 1,460 people .
