Only then education of the desired quality could be delivered, he says
Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Thursday said the selection process of Vice-Chancellors and teaching faculty should be transparent to deliver education of the desired quality.
Delivering the inaugural address at the regional summit on ‘Quality and Sustainable Education’ organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) along with the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), the Governor said the country was on the threshold of realising the benefits of demographic dividend with more than half of India’s population below 25 years of age.
“At least 10 million youth enter the country’s workforce every year. The benefits of the demographic dividend will be realised fully when this large workforce finds gainful employment,” he said.
The Governor highlighted that Tamil Nadu had done better in getting more students enrolled for higher education with its Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) of 46% surpassing even that of China, which was at 39.5%.
Terry Durnnian, Chief Education, Unicef, highlighted the conference’s theme of ‘Realizing the full human potential through inclusive and holistic education,’ and said focus was needed on learning outcomes.
