Government school teacher placed under suspension

The Education Department has placed under suspension the botany teacher of a Government Higher Secondary School in Bhavani, after the police registered a case against him for sexually assaulting Plus-One students of the school.
Sakthivel (47) of Kuppa Naicken Palayam in Bhavani block had allegedly sexually assaulted a few girl students. The girls informed their parents, who lodged a complaint with the school management demanding action against the teacher. They also staged a protest on the school premises on July 26. Bhavani police held talks with the parents and asked them to lodge a complaint with the All Women Police at Bhavani. Following the complaint, the police registered a case against Sakthivel under Section 9 (f) and 10 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 and Section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of IPC. The accused is at large. Since a case was registered against Sakthivel, Chief Education Officer R. Balamurali issued orders placing him under suspension.
