Round 2 of med counselling today

The second round of counselling for MBBS/ BDS admission in the state through single window counselling by the state selection committee will begin on Tuesday. The selection committee said there were 146 MBBS seats in government medical colleges, 48 in the three category B institutions run by the government and 69 seats in self-financing medical colleges.

Govt employees to get spl leave for cancer treatment: The state government has announced that government employees undergoing treatment for cancer will be awarded 10 days special casual leave for chemotherapy/radiotherapy. This special leave will be for 10 days from the day prior to the date of chemotherapy and will be in addition to the eligible leave, subject to the production of medical certificate from the hospital where they underwent the treatment. Minister D Jayakumar had made an announcement to this regard in the assembly on July 5.

Non-judicial members of state Lokayukta appointed: Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Monday issued appointment orders to two non-judicial members of Tamil Nadu Lokayukta — retired bureaucrat M Rajaram and K Arumugam. The orders were issued days after the Supreme Court stayed the Madras high court order that stalled the appointment on the grounds that the members were holding offices of profit. Rajaram was a former member of TN public service commission and Arumugam was prosecutor in session’s court and office-bearer of AIADMK’s advocates wing.
