CM relief fund receives ₹161cr

The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday said members of the public, philanthropists and corporates have contributed a total of ₹160.93 crore to help the state in its fight against Covid-19.
“Tamil Nadu chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami has thanked the institutions, public and voluntary organisations and all those kind-hearted, who continuously support the government,” said an official release. A total contribution of ₹26.3 crore was received last week alone. Sterlite Copper-Vedanta Group donated ₹5 crore to the CM’s public relief fund while Sundaram Fasteners Limited has contributed ₹3 crore and ITC Education ₹2 crore. The Sanmar Group donated ₹1crore and Aachi Masala Foods Limited ₹1.10 lakh, the release said.
Government departments such as fire and rescue services donated ₹64.74 lakh, Tamil Nadu Magnesite Limited ₹77.30 lakh and Tamil Nadu Small Industries Development Corporation Limited ₹26 lakh. Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Madurai and Supreme Industries Limited donated ₹31 lakh. The contribution to the CM’s public relief fund is fully exempted from income tax under Section 80(G) of Income Tax Act. The Union government has already clarified that all contributions to the state disaster management authority for Covid-19 will qualify as admissible CSR expenditure. Contributions may be made via http://ereceipt.tn.gov.in/cmprf/cmprf.html and electronic clearance system via Indian Overseas Bank, Secretariat Branch, Chennai 600009.
