Muslim assn donates ₹50L to CM relief fund
The Muslim Educational Association of Southern India (MEASI), the parent body of The New College, Chennai, has contributed ₹50 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Public Relief Fund to combat the Covid-19 pandemic and to support the government’s initiative to help the victims of the virus. MEASI lauded the Tamil Nadu government for its efforts in controlling the spread of coronavirus to a large extent.
MRC donates wheat bran for horses: Horse owners, who made their living offering joyrides at Marina, received the second batch of relief material from the Madras Race Club. The club donated 500 bags of coarse wheat bran for 117 horses. A member said Chennai-based animal welfare organisation People for Animals (PfA) had taken up the initiative to help the poor equines, struggling without feed. When PfA approached MRC, club chairman M A M R Muthiah agreed to distribute 500 bags of coarse wheat bran. Each gunny bag contains 35kg of wheat bran and was handed over to the organisation on Thursday.
Man beats wife to death over dowry: A man beat his wife to death at Pathirivedu near Gummidipoondi on Wednesday night when demanding more dowry. Police said Karthik, 30, of Thervoy Kandigai village married Sunitha, 28, of Gummidipoondi eight months ago. “In the evening, Sunitha had contacted her father saying Karthik had been beating her,” an officer said. Around 11.30pm, some neighbours told Sunitha’s father that his daughter was found dead inside the house. The Pathirvedu police are looking for Karthik who is on the run.
Changes to spl cargo train: Southern Railway has made changes to the route and timings of Nagercoil-Chennai Egmore daily cargo express special train (00658) till May 3. The changes include additional stoppages at Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai and Cuddalore Port. The train will depart from Nagercoil (6am), Tirunelvei (7.30am), Virudhunagar (10am), Madurai (11am), Dindigul (12.10pm), Trichy (2pm), Thanjavur
(2.55pm), Kumbakonam
(3.55pm), Mayiladuthurai
(4.40pm), Cuddalore Port
(6.20pm), Villupuram
(7.30pm) and reach Chennai Egmore at 10.30pm the same day.
