Pay fine 24/7 at virtual traffic court

Pay fine 24/7 at virtual traffic court

Bengaluru: 7.8.2020

A virtual court for traffic challans inaugurated on Thursday will enable an offender pay the fine online any time, without requiring him/her to appear before the court.

Cases of drunken driving, riding vehicles without licence and display board-related offences can be settled at this virtual court; its jurisdiction combines the city’s all six traffic courts.

Inaugurating the court along with e-filing facilities at the high court and district courts, Supreme Court judge Justice DY Chandrachud said the legal system has to keep pace with exponential growth in information technology.

Justice Chandrachud, who is chairman of the Supreme Court’s ecourt committee, said considering the country’s technological divide, 3,000 e-seva kendras will be set up in courts across the country.

Police commissioner Kamal Pant said the facility will help save time for police, prosecutors, judicial officers and litigants. With the city’s population and vehicles increasing, serving summons and challans had become a problem for police. TNN
