Severe cyclonic storm Nivar is expected to bring heavy rainfall to the city when it makes landfall between Mamallapuram and Karaikal on Wednesday evening.
The India Meteorological Department said a storm surge of about 2m above the sea level is likely around the time of landfall, causing inundation of low-lying areas.
On Monday evening, Aminjikarai, Choolaimedu, Alandur and Nanganallur got light rain accompanied by strong winds.
The state has ordered suspension of intra and inter-district bus services in Pudukkottai, Nagapattinam, Thanjavur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Tiruvarur and Chengalpet districts from 1pm on November 24 till further orders. Meanwhile, the selection committee has postponed MBBS/BDS counselling on Tuesday to November 30. For further updates go to https://tnhealth.tn.gov.in.
