Denied non-veg food, lawyer opens fire at hotel staffer, arrested

Chennai: The police on Wednesday arrested a lawyer for opening fire at a hotel in Kelambakkam near Mamallapuram.
The accused got into an argument with a hotel employee for not providing him the non-vegetarian food he had ordered. He threatened him at gun point and created panicby opening fire. Nowas injured in the incident.
The Kelambakkam police seized the revolver and four bullets from the advocate, S Madhavan. They said he used a licensed revolver.
Madhavan, a resident of Anna Nagar in Madurai, was staying at a hotel while on an official trip. He ordered nonvegetarian food for dinner but was instead served vegetarian fare. He picked up a quarrel with the staff and, in a fit of rage, pulled out his revolver and openedfire. Asthe restaurant is close to the parking area, the bullet pierced through the wind shield of a car parked there, damaging the vehicle.
“At around 11pm, he had gone tothe restaurant and ordered a non-veg dish. The waiter served him a vegetarian dish by mistake which angered Madhavan, who was in an inebriated condition. The advocate picked up a fight with the staffer, who apologised for the mistake,” said the investigating officer.
“Madhavan brought the staffer down to the lobby and thrashed him. He then brought the revolver and fired at the staffer,” the officer added.
The staff immediately alerted the police who rushed to the spot and nabbed Madhavan. Police said Madhavan possessed an identity card issued by the Madurai bench of the Madras high court bar council and is a native of Tirunelveli.
