‘Good connectivity an advantage to Salem’


Salem district enjoyed major advantage with its good connectivity by road and train route to other parts of the State and country.
This facility will play a major role in the successful functioning of the proposed Defence Hub, said District Collector Rohini R. Bhajibhakare.

National highways

At the interaction session with stakeholders here on Thursday, the Collector said that four major national highways were passing through the district and all these highways remained ever busy.
She said that Salem was well connected with major cities through the rail route. The well laid out Salem airport, which remained defunct for the last few years, was getting revived with the introduction of flight service on the Salem – Chennai sector from March 25. This would prove a boon in attracting entrepreneurs.

The government had given its nod for the expansion of the Salem airport.

Special teams had already been formed to begin the land acquisition process for the airport expansion.
Moreover, on the Chief Minister’s plea, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had come forward to set up a bus-port on the lines of airport on the outskirts of Salem city.

The proposed spacious bus stand would have all modern facilities such as airport and would prove a major attraction.
