Forum says there should be a uniform usage of his name
A petition seeking change in the name boards of Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH) from ‘Rasasi’ to ‘Rajaji’, filed by Bharathiyar Thinkers Forum, has been forwarded to the Health and Family Welfare Department by Madurai Collector Veera Raghava Rao.
R. Lakshminarayanan, secretary of the forum, had petitioned Governor Banwari Lal Purohit during his recent visit to the city. Mr. Lakshminarayanan, in his petition to the Governor, sought the change of the name boards installed at the government hospital.
Speaking to The Hindu , he said C. Rajagopalachari or Rajaji was not only a freedom fighter but had held high offices and was a highly respected man. He contended that there should be a uniform usage of his name.
The word Rajaji had been rightly installed at the Corporation Children’s Park opposite Gandhi Museum, he said. At Thorapalli, 10 km from Hosur, the birthplace of Rajaji, where a memorial was dedicated to Rajaji, the name board read correctly as Rajaji, he said.
Mr. Lakshminarayanan contended that the usage in both the name boards at MGR bus stand at Mattuthavani and Jayalalithaa omni bus stand in the city carried the letter ‘ji’ and ‘ja’ respectfully rather than ‘si’ and ‘sa’. He said there should be no disparity in the name boards.
He was hopeful that appropriate action would be taken towards installing the correct name boards at the GRH.
