Uzhavar Santhais to become Wi-Fi zone

All the four Uzhavar Santhais in the city limits will soon get Wi-Fi facility.
The Department of Agricultural Marketing has proposed to commission the facility at Suramangalam, Hasthampatti, Ammapettai and Thathakapatti in the city limits soon. This will enable the large number of consumers visiting the Santhais to access internet.
“All the four markets will be converted into Wi-Fi campuses”, Agricultural Marketing Department sources told The Hindu.
The work on the project will commence as soon as the government sanctioned the needed funds, the sources said.
The department has also proposed to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in these markets for crowd management and also to monitor the movement of anti-social elements.
The department has also commissioned an electronic digital price list display board at the Suramangalam Uzhavar Santhai. The price of the vegetables and fruits are displayed in the digital display board during the working hours every day.
At present, two boards displaying the prices of vegetables and fruits are in place in this Uzhavar Santhai. The digital board will enable the consumers entering through both the entrances to know the price of vegetables and fruits before procuring them. This facility was commissioned last week.
Suramangalam Uzhavar Santhai is a major vegetable market in the city, attracting a large number of consumers and the farmers alike every day.
The department will commission similar electronic digital price list display boards in the other ten santhais functioning in the district in a phased manner shortly.
Referring to the other development works planned in the Uzhavar Santhais, the sources said that the four Uzhavar Santhais of the city and another two in the other parts of the district have cold storage facility. It has been planned to enhance the capacity of the cold storages in the four city Santhais.
The department has also proposed to commission generators in the market in the city, the sources added.
