Nearly 17 days after a physical training instructor (PTI) posted at a government school near Hanumangarh committed suicide, police are investigating the motive after a suicide note purportedly written by the teacher went viral.
The suicide note reveals that the teacher committed suicide after he failed to get exemption from election duty as a booth level officer (BLO). Police have now taken the suicide note on record and are verifying if it is authentic.
Police identified the PTI as Sohan Singh, who had committed suicide at his house in Sector 6 at Hanumangarh Junction on November 9. Police say they did recover any suicide note from the spot at that time.
However, Singh’s family members alleged that they had the suicide note but that the police refused to acknowledge it at that time. On Sunday, the suicide note went viral, after which the family members again requested the police to take the suicide note on record.
“Sohan Singh has stated in the suicide note that since December 2017, he had been requesting the local election officer to exempt him from election duty as a booth level officer. Singh says that the person earlier assigned this duty was injured and that he was assured by the authorities that when that person is fit, Singh would be exempted from the duty,” a senior police officer said on Monday.
