2,000 govt officials seek exemption from poll duty

Official further said that 2,000 polling officers have been doing rounds around the GHMC headquarters to exempt them from polling duties.
A senior GHMC official said District Election Officer M Dana Kishore has already issued show cause notices to the absentees before initiating disciplinary actions.
Hyderabad: The polling officers (POs) have been making beeline at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation headquarters to exempt them from the polling duty on medical grounds. Out of a total 9,000 POs appointed, 2,000 were moving pillar to post to exempt them from election duties and 800 of them did not report to their duties for whom show cause notices have been served.
A senior GHMC official said District Election Officer M Dana Kishore has already issued show cause notices to the absentees before initiating disciplinary actions.
The official further said that 2,000 polling officers have been doing rounds around the GHMC headquarters to exempt them from polling duties claiming ill health, personal problems and other issues.
He added that 80 members have been exempted and the corporation would conduct medical tests to the remaining POs and if it gives negative results, disciplinary action would be initiated against them.
