Heavy rain in TN’s southern districts brings down heat

Heavy rain lashed some parts of southern districts, including Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram and Tirunelveli districts, on Wednesday providing some respite to residents from the sweltering heat.
Though the southern districts have been witnessing extreme heat for the past one month, the rain in the afternoon came as a relief to the people.
Several areas, including Nagercoil, Marthandam, Kuzhithurai, Kaliyakkavilai, Arumanai, Kulasekaram, among others in Kanyakumari district received heavy rain in the afternoon.
The rainfall lasted nearly an hour with lightning and thunderstorm.
Following the heavy rain, water-logging was witnessed on several roads in Nagercoil town.
Similarly, there was heavy rain for more than an hour at Ramanathapuram, Paramakudi, Mudukulathur and Kamuthi in Ramanathapuram district.
Some parts of Tirunelveli district also received mild rainfall during the afternoon hours. Though there was no rainfall in Madurai, the weather was cloudy and it provided some relief to the people from the scorching sun.heat.
