More than five lakh engineering students are set to write Anna University’s reexams and semester exams that will begin on Monday and go on till July 29. The exams will be unsupervised and in pen-and-paper mode.

Students will write the reexam for November/December 2020 session and semester exam for April/May 2021 session in their homes and upload, send soft and hardcopies of their answer scripts to their colleges. “Around four lakh students have registered for the April/May semester exam and more than one lakh for the re-exam,” an Anna University official said.

The university conducted a proctored online test for all students in February. Following complaints of more failures in the proctored online test, the state government had asked Anna University to conduct unsupervised re-exam for three hours as other universities in the state did.

“Students need to upload a copy of the answer scripts within one hour after the exam and also send the answer scripts by post/courier to their colleges. The faculty members need to verify whether the soft copy and hard copy belong to the same student. After verification, they will send the answer scripts to zonal offices for evaluation,” the official explained.

Colleges were asked to pick an online platform such as Google Classrooms or Microsoft Teams to send question papers to the students and receive the softcopy of answer sheets. As per instructions, students should not leave any page blank and must mention the date of exam, page number, and sign on each page.

Meanwhile, other universities such as University of Madras, Manonmaniam Sundaranar University in Tirunelveli will also begin conducting partial online exam on Monday. “Around 1.7 lakh students from affiliated colleges will appear. The university will send the question paper to colleges and they will, in turn, send it to the students,” an official from Madras University said. The exams will go on till the third week of July.
