Daytime temperature would largely remain normal
Some parts of Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, are likely to experience thundershowers for the next two days. The temperature during the day may remain close to normal in many districts.
The prevailing cool easterlies and a trough in easterlies from the Comorin area to south interior Karnataka across interior Tamil Nadu would bring thundershowers to some parts of the State.
On Monday, Chennai woke up to a cloudy sky, and the weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 34.4 degrees Celsius and 35 degrees Celsius respectively, which is normal for the season.
However, Chennai residents experienced sultry weather due to a slightly higher level of humidity. Officials of the Meteorological department said the same moderate weather trend might continue till the weekend. A generally cloudy sky would ensure a normal day temperature of 34 degrees Celsius till Friday over Chennai. However, nights would be slightly uncomfortable, with minimum temperature touching 27 degrees Celsius. There are chances for thunderclouds to develop towards the evening or the night, officials said.
S. Balachandran, Director, Area Cyclone Warning Centre, Chennai, said it is usual for thunderstorms to develop as an impact of convective activity during summer.
