Celebrates 75th birthday among college students
Music maestro Ilaiyaraaja along with a group of 90 musicians will perform at the Annamalai University to mark the 90th anniversary celebrations of the university later in this year.
The maestro, who celebrated his 75th birthday amidst students at the Sastri Hall of Annamalai University, agreed to a concert in response to a request made by the University Vice Chancellor V. Murugesan for an concert to raise funds to create a Chair in the Faculty of Fine Arts.
Later, addressing the students and faculty, he dwelt on the process of making music.
To the maestro, Kannadasan was the greatest poet of the world. He also said that he cherished the Honorary Doctorate (D.Litt.) awarded to him by the University in 1994.
The programme began with Mangala Isai by students of the Department of Music.
K. Muthuraman, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, participated. The Vice Chancellor said that the birthday celebration of the maestro was the first grand function of the year-long celebration of the 90th birth anniversary of Annamalai University in 2019.
