Amid protests by Anna University students against the new exam regulation, Vice Chancellor MK Surappa said that he was not ready to lower education standards.

“Genuine concerns of students can be addressed by making small changes. But we can't lower exam rigour or toughness of question papers to suit students who don't understand what engineering is," he told reporters here on Monday.

Students had complained against the choice based credit system, introduced in 2017, which they said forced students to wait for a year to reappear for subjects in which they had failed.

When questioned about this, Surappa said that it was a highly competent University Grants Commission that made the decision and not Anna University.
