HC vacates stay on city engg college

The Madras high court on Wednesday vacated an interim stay ordered against city-based Arignar Anna College of Science and Technology from admitting students for the academic year 2019-20.
A vacation bench of Justice RMT Teeka Raaman and Justice P D Audikesavalu set aside the interim order while admitting an appeal moved by Sridevi Karumariamman Trust which runs the institution.On May10, a singlejudge of the high court granted the interim stay on a plea moved seeking direction totheAnna University to disaffiliate the college for alleged non-payment of bank loan dues acquired by the institution.
Challenging the order,the trust moved the appeal on the primary contention that an institution cannot be prohibited from admitting students for non-payment of loan dues.The institution is recognized by the university and accorded due permission to conduct courses and admit students, it cannot be restrained from making admission for any other reasons, the trust said.
