Ariyalur: Veggie vendor’s daughter braces for Tokyo Olympics

Ariyalur: A girl student of the Government Arts college Ariyalur will represent the country, along with three others in the international (Olympic) kick boxing (karate) women event to be held at Tokyo in Japan from July 24 to August 9 this year, according to Karatre Master L. Saravanan who is giving to training to her.

He told DC that the girl, Suganthi, daughter of a vegetable vendor, Mrs. Selvi of Ariyalur, pursuing her first year undergraduate course in environmental science, has annexed a championship and won the gold in 45-50 kg category of women section of the ‘All India Martial Arts Championship-2018’ kick boxing event held at Puducherry recently, in which 1,800 boys and girls from different states took part.

Mr. Saravanan said Pudhucherry Governor Dr Kiren Bedi and Chief Minister V. Narayanaswamy who gave the prizes to the winners of the national event, openly announced that the Pudhucherry government will bear the entire expenses of Suganthi to enable her to participate in the proposed Olympic event at Tokyo, Japan.Ms. Suganthi said she is now undergoing training and preparing for facing the Olympic event in an effective manner. She hoped that she will win the gold there also, to add glory to her college and the country. Suganthi said she was greeted by the college principal Palanisamy and others for her achievement at the Puducherry event recently.
