A single judge order permitting re-evaluation of the theory papers of a first year MBBS student who had failed twice in two subjects, was stayed by a division bench of the Madras high court on Tuesday.

Hearing an appeal filed by Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, the bench of Justice T S Sivagnanam and Justice V Bhavani Subbaroyan granted an interim stay to the order of the single judge till February 19.

The case related to a petition filed by Priyanka Venkatesh, who joined MBBS at Government Medical College in Villupuram. She had failed to obtain pass marks in Anatomy theory papers I and II and Biochemistry theory papers I and II in August 2018 and the supplementary exams conducted in September 2018.
