M S Swaminathan felicitated with 84th doctorate at 92

Agriculture scientist M S Swaminathan was on Wednesday conferred the Doctor of Letters degree by ITM University, Gwalior, for his pioneering contributions to sustainable agriculture and global food security.
This was the 84th honorary doctorate received by the 92-year-old geneticist, including 24 from international institutions. He was given the award at a special convocation held at the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation premises in Taramani.
Dr Kamal Kant Dwivedi, vice chancellor of ITM University, Gwalior, presented the degree to Swaminathan.
“Zero hunger can be achieved only through sustainable agriculture,” Swaminathan said in his acceptance speech.
He expressed his joy over the fact that ITM University had produced 1,000 agricultural degree holders.
