Calicut University has come up with an extraordinary solution to help former students, even those who completed their course a quarter of a century ago, to improve their results.

Those who completed their course in 1995 to 2019 can appear for a “special supplementary and improvement examination” to be held by the university. Authorities said the decision would be helpful to students who couldn’t score enough marks in their student days.

Interestingly, the varsity had tried its hands at the improvement examination in the past too but had to stop it in 2015, three years after its commencement, after it ran into controversy over difficulties in revoking the earlier degree certificates and other technical issues.

Syndicate examinations standing committee member K K Haneefa said the decision to conduct the examination was taken on request from former students, mainly those who failed to score the minimum marks of 50 or 55% required to appear for various eligibility tests or for promotions.

“The single-chance exam will be held on the basis of syllabus corresponding to the student’s year of study. The examination wing will make a list of all syllabi and schemes followed by the varsity from 1995 onwards,” a senior official said.
