EXCELLENCE IN ROBOTICS

The robotics industry is rapidly growing and India is surging ahead with several technological advancements in the field. At the 14th edition of the RoboGames, held at California, USA, in April this year, students from SRM bagged 2 gold medals and a bronze for India. At ArtBot, the students were challenged to play a musical instrument without human intervention. SRM’s Team Humanoid (SRMTH) shone at the global platform, and won gold, for their creativity, quality and diversity of sound. In the obstacle run event, SRMTH’s robot overcame autonomous humanoid challenges and bagged another gold for our nation. Further, SRMTH’s robot won bronze at the BiPed Race competing against over 6 countries.

NEXT GENERATION LEARNING

Next Tech Lab founded by Anshuman Pandey and Aditthya Ramakrishnan, who spent a semester at MIT and Cambridge on scholarships, is built to foster innovation and disruptive thinking. Researchers work on deep learning/ artificial intelligence, computational biology, electrical systems, mixed reality, blockchains/ decentralisation & internet of things with advisors from globally renowned universities and silicon-valley start-ups.

Next Tech Lab won big at the Reimagine education awards 2018 organised by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) and Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania. Next Tech Lab was awarded silver for innovation in spearheading student-led cross-disciplinary research in India.

The 6 research groups under Next Tech Lab include Minsky Lab, Pausch Lab, Satoshi Lab, IoT Lab, Franklin Lab and Tesla Lab. Since inception, members of Next Tech Lab have bagged top research and industry internships, won international hackathons and presented their research at prestigious conferences.

Next Tech Lab has locations in Kattankulathur, Tamil Nadu and Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh. Next Tech Lab AP recently finished a project using augmented reality to redefine the learning paradigm for elementary school children, with apps to supplement regular classes.

RECOGNITION FOR PATENTS & COMMERCIALIZATION

SRM motivates its academic fraternity by promoting basic and advanced research activities for technological development. Numerous workshops on patenting and innovation management are conducted every year, to educate the teaching faculty, research scholars and students about the critical skills needed to identify novelty in their projects and research work for possible patenting.

So far, SRM has 10 granted patents, 50+ patents published and 170+ patents filed to its credit. The well-defined IP policy promotes consideration of possible avenues for transforming inventions into products beneficial to the society on a grand scale. SRM has spearheaded a successful industry-institute collaboration, wherein model inventors get an opportunity to interact with potential investors or industries for commercializing their patents.

For its outstanding contributions to intellectual property and patents in the country, the Intellectual Property Office, India under the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion of Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India awarded SRMIST the most prestigious National Intellectual Property Award 2018 in the category of "Top Indian Academic institution for Patents & Commercialization”.

FOSTERING TALENT

To motivate, inspire and offer international students a launch-pad to showcase their talents and co-curricular abilities, SRM celebrates InSync, the international student’s day. This event helps students celebrate their respective cultures and backgrounds, hence fostering friendship beyond borders.

HIGHLIGHTS

The academic year 2017-18 was dotted with milestones for the Career Centre. The following Industry-Academia tie-ups were facilitated in the month of April and May 2018.

1. On 24th April, the honourable, Vice chancellor, SRMIST, Dr.SandeepSanchettisignedanMOUwithAeriesCommunication, a leading IOT (Internet of Things) solution provider. Under this, Aeries will establish a Centre of Excellence to prepare the students for opportunities in IOT applications development.

2. Further, Dr. Sandeep Sanchetti also signed an MOU on 27th April with Ernst &Young, a leading business consulting firm. Through this, Ernst & Young will introduce a vertical specialization in International Taxation under the MBA Program. Students pursuing this course will have a high chance of internship opportunities as well as final placements with Ernst & Young.

3. A delegation led by the Vice chancellor of SRMIST comprising, Directors-Career Centre and Corporate Relations, Dean-School of Mechanical and Professors from Automobile Department visited the MTA(Mahindra Technical Academy) at Mahindra City on 7th May’18, to interact with the MTA team led by Dr.Shankar Venugopal - Sr.Vice President, Mahindra Research Valley and Dean, MTA. The fruitful discussions included codevelopment of one credit course, technical talks, course on innovation, joint certification programs,establishment of open labs, shared facility, long term internship program, joint R&D projects and faculty industry immersion programs.
