Chennai: The city police found a woman tourist from the US losing her passport and made arrangements to help her get back home.

According to the police, Kela Marine Nelson (26), an American citizen allegedly married to Vimal, a local, was staying at Velacheri.

But, she was found by the Kanchipuram police with her passport missing on 12 September.

Sources said Vimal lost his job a couple of days ago, took Kela to Kanchipuram and 'abandoned' her. She was later found by the locals, who informed the police.

The police said Kela was not sure where Vimal's house was in Velacheri. She told the police that she was looking for a job and lived in a lodge in Kanchipuram.

She has been in India for the past two years and married a year ago.

Kela told the police that the duo was living in a multi-storeyed apartment at Velacheri and she did not know about his whereabouts for the past few days.

The police said she wanted to return to USA. "We shifted her to a shelter in Panayur, ECR. Subsequently, we contacted the US embassy and she travelled to Florida Friday," the police added.
