Students to get only one chance a year to retake board examination

Students of Class X, XI and XII, who were given two chances a year to retake the public examination until the last academic year, will get only one chance from the next academic year, school education minister K A Sengottaiyan said in Erode on Sunday.
Until last academic year, if the students of Class X, XI and XII appearing for their board exam failed in the first attempt, they were given two additional chances every year to clear the exam in the July and September respectively.
“From the next academic year, if the students fail, they will be given only one additional chance in the year to clear the exam and it will be in June itself,” Sengottaiyan said.
He said students would not face any difficulty in their pursuit of pursue higher education because of the state’s decision to reduce the total marks in the Class XII exams from 1200 to 600, as the total marks for CBSE students in Class XII is 500.
While speaking to reporters at his residence in Gopichettipalayam, he stated that about 82,000 teachers have written the Teachers Entrance Test (TET) in the years 2011, 2014 and 2017. Sengottaiyan said that all these 82,000 teachers were given an another opportunity to go for a test as the weightage system was cancelled. "Teachers clearing the test will be posted in appropriate positions. Until then the temporary vacancies will be filled through the Parents Teachers Association (PTA) and the teachers recruited through PTA will be paid ₹7,500 a month," he added.
The minister said he had initiated work to computerize Class IX, X, XI and XII, apart from setting up smart classrooms in 3000 schools across TN.
Sengottaiyan said that as many as 1,50,000 books have been given to schools and libraries, including the oldest library in Yazhpanam in Sri Lanka.
