The Madras high court on Monday dismissed anticipatory bail application moved by a secretariat staff member fearing arrest in connection with the Tamil Nadu Public Services Commission (TNPSC) recruitment scam.

Justice M Dhandapani rejected the bail application moved by D Kavitha, an assistant in the department of finance at the secretariat, in view of objection from the CB-CID on the ground that the investigation is on crucial stage.

In her petition, Kavitha submitted that she apprehended arrest in connection with the scam as her three other batch mates have been arrested.

Claiming to be on maternity leave, Kavitha submitted that only on January 23 she gave birth to a boy. She further said she got appointed in government service after clearing the TNPSC Group II examination in 2017-18 in which she secured 48th rank overall and came sixth in communal ranking.

Her batch mate M Vignesh had written the examination at the same centre and secured 46th rank. He was recently arrested by CB-CID for having allegedly paid money to clear the exam. Promising not to tamper with any evidence, Kavitha pleaded the court to grant her bail in case of arrest.
