‘Not responsible for hoax calls’

The examination section of the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has been forced to come out with a notice denying responsibility of calls allegedly received by students where they were informed of their failure in the exams even before the results were declared. The university has clarified that the dual assessment system it follows is fool proof and it is impossible for anyone to know the marks achieved by the students before the marksheets are prepared.

According to a university official, there have been instances of people claiming to have contacts in the university and examination section calling up students and telling them of the marks they have got in the subjects they appeared for. The official said, “Under no circumstances will the university officials or employees of the examination section will contact the students or principals of the respective colleges with regards to exam results. The question of people claiming to have contacts in the university were spurious and students falling prey to their assurances were solely responsible for the same,” said the official.

Dr K.D. Chavan, Controller of Examination (CoE), MUHS, said, “The receiver of the call should immediately lodge a complaint with the police and update the university of the same along with the number from which they received the call. Action will be initiated against the perpetrator immediately,” he said .

Recently, the university has been receiving numerous complaints from students who get fleeced as the caller provides confidential information of the student giving them the impression that the caller is legitimate.

The university has been trying to get to the root of the problem and is trying to ascertain as to where the information is being leaked from. Till then the university has warned students to be wary and not get duped, as the university will not be responsible.
