Fourteen people on board a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight from Osaka were injured after the plane carrying 268 passengers was today hit by a sudden severe turbulence about an hour before landing here.

The captain of the SIA flight SQ615, which departed last night from Osaka at 11.30 pm local time, reported the turbulence an hour before landing at Changi Airport early this morning, a SIA spokesman said.

The flight had 268 passengers, including two infants, and 13 crew members on board.

Most of the injured passengers and crew members received head and neck injuries.

Medical personnel, airline staff, as well as staff of ground services provider were on standby to help the passengers when the aircraft arrived at 5.17 am, the spokesman said.

The injured were assessed by a doctor and taken to the terminal transit clinic.

All the injured passengers were discharged after treatment, except for one patient, who was referred to a hospital for further examination due to a previous neck injury.
