Nearly 20,000 are expected to participate in the agitation
The Joint Action Committee of the Government Doctors’ Association has decided to go on a one-day strike on September 21. About 20,000 government doctors are expected to participate in it.
On Saturday, around 300 doctors met in Dindigul representing office-bearers and members of the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association, the Service Doctors and Post Graduates Association, The Tamil Nadu Medical Officers’ Association, the Doctors’ Association for Social Equality, Government All Doctors’ Association and the TNSCA.
The doctors would launch a phased agitation in support of their demand of pay parity with Union Government doctors.
They propose to launch the agitation by demanding badges, holding contact programmes in primary health centres, government hospitals, medical colleges and also stage a Statewide dharna in all hospitals and medical colleges on August 20. The associations have planned a rally on August 24.
If these agitations don’t yield results, they plan to launch a full-scale strike from September 21, said A. Ramalingam, representing the SDPGA.
